I visit PR a every 2 months or so, on business and, it still paradise (no questions) but the current situation there made me move here in benefit of my daughters education and future. PR is great, depending on where you choose to buy, but I donât see myself returning for permanent living.
Puerto Ricoâs healthcare system is, let me be diplomatic, not good, speaking from multiple unfortunate family experiences. The best healthcare pros (if there are any left) leave the island for mainland USA to pursue better education/jobs so guess what remains in the island! Great weather & beaches though!

I'm in CO and looking to move to Ocala, but had no idea what the climate or geography was really like.
This place seems perfect for my family. We live in a rural, small-ish retirement town outside of Fort Collins and it's become overrun with Californians who have totally changed the town in the last ten years.
They've all got seats in city council and don't seem to care about us farmers and that we don't want a ton of clubs and big city style in our hometown.
I just want to move to a Southern Hospitality place and restart my flower farm.
Grew up in Florida, 10 years in Gainesville; somehow ended up in Californiated Arizona. Coming back home to Florida soon and surprise it's Ocala! You'll love it. I know this state like the back of my hand and Ocala really is the best if you want to raise a family. Schools and jobs galore, weather is just right, and it's accessible to everything you're in the mood for. Great video!

I grew up in Ocala. 90 minutes to the Atlantic. 45 minutes to Gainesville. 90 minutes to Disney. 90 minutes to the Gulf.

We are moving to ocala in December when our house is done being built! We are coming from California lol! We visited in February and loved it but u are right I was definitely surprised by the driving I thought I was still in Sacramento lol! My wife n I are definitely ready for a slower pace in life
Ocala is beautiful.
I'm from Pensacola and in this area the gas prices are pretty high, about 30 cent more than in Pensacola. I'm going to move to Ocala soon, so I still have to find places where the gas is a little lower

Another plus is Gainesville airport is fairly close and has commercial flights.
I have zipped the Canyonlands, it is a blast!
Also, if you are taking a flight from Orlando we have a shuttle system that picks you from your home and takes you to the airport.

Iâm think about going to live in Ocala from Las Vegas after 17 years
I grew up in Vegas. Left in 1968. Itâs different. Humidity being one thing. Worse areas. Come with money unless youâre highly skilled worker.
Iâm moving to Florida next year. Still a tough decision between Ocala and Orlando. Not big on going to clubs but I love the NBA and Iâm wondering will I get burned out on the drive. The drive to the airport when family visitâs and small stuff are the issue. I did notice that itâs several vegan restaurants and a farmerâs market which is a plus. The homes are decent priced and some have pools also. Another thing I like is Iâll have plenty of yard for my dog if I choose Ocala over Orlando. Thanks for the video.
I can definitely see you are really looking into this. Which is a great idea. I love traveling to Orlando for a lot of things, but I also like Tampa. I prefer the Tampa airport as it is way easier to get in and out of, but the Sanford airport is also simple and easy to get through. There is a Realtor that I have become friends with named Krista Taurins that lives and works in Orlando. She has an awesome and informative CZcams channel. I highly recommend that you check that out. For me and my family Ocala to live and Orlando to visit is the way to go. Especially with Disney passes that allowed us to go to Disney multiple times monthly. But Ocala is rural, it is not for everyone. If you enjoy outdoorsy type stuff, this is the place for you! But if you are looking for all the stores and arenas and restaurants etc, you'd probably be better off in Orlando. My suggestion would be to come down for a week or two and spend time in each and look at some neighborhoods that may work for you. Let us know if we can help!
@@GreatExpectationsRealty thanks for the response and the information as well. Iâm looking at coming down in March. I do like entertainment but I was born in the country in Arkansas. The only reason I think the drive will get to me is because Iâm a truck driver now and itâs very different when itâs your pov. Iâve looked at gas prices,movie tickets, vegan food restaurants and so on. Iâll also look at car insurance, truck parking and other things as well. Thanks for the information about the airportâs also I only looked at Orlando so now I can get a better price knowing I have a better/another great flying option. I will check out here CZcams and thanks again. Im looking forward to the move and definitely trying the food in Ocala. My eyes are set on Pie-O-Mine and greens.
We have shuttles that take us to And from Orlando airport, you just need to do a reservation. The best in my opinion is workman shuttle from the Villages. After you get familiar with the road, driving to Orlando or Tampa is a piece of cake.

Driving slow isnât a problem unless you have cars lining up behind you. Unfortunately to many donât look in the rear view mirror and itâs mostly issues on single lane roads.
People need to obey the speed limit signs I have cars going 50 mph in a residential area
Just an add. I moved up from Naples/Ft Myers and we have âseasonâ also but the elderly people in this area are so bad at driving.

Im still thinking about visiting Ocala to have the feeling of what if that will be our future home..Taxes here in Virginia are crazy and when you say no property taxes there im happy with that..Six more years and I be there to stay..What do you think if we should rent for the first year?will that be OK?

What are the schools like? For families thinking about moving to Florida, schools are a big deal for me.
More specifically the grade schools. I have a first grader going into second.
We have traveled to Florida from the west coast about 4-5 times already since January and have been doing so almost every year since 2005. I love Florida.

One of them just graduated with a Master in Nursing. I do believe that we have great teachers and great programs, parents need to their part , too supporting their children.

Thanks for the information. Some of the negatives are positives for me. I don't need nightlife. What's the sales tax? What's the typical home insurance on a 350k home? Do you need flood insurance ?
Sales tax is 7%. Home insurance has gone up and of course will depend on size an type of home you buy. Depending on area. Most areas are not in flood zone. Again need to check. Home in crystal river on 19 have more flooding.
We trying to move on out there but finding a home thatâs affordable and inside of a good school district without having to put my kids in private school has become a nightmare and maybe not even a possibility for us to move too đą

I've moved here 10 years ago and ocala caters to the retirement communitys there's nothing for the working class with children .
I guess we can agree to disagree on that one. I was a single mom of an infant here and while we didn't have much at the time and it was hard, I was still able to put my daughter in great schools. I also went from barely licensed to owning my own small business and being really helped by the community here to establish my small business. Especially at the chamber, which has won numerous awards as being the best in the country. They offer classes on entrepreneurship to underserved areas. I have given back by speaking at some of the classes on social media marketing for small businesses. My daughter is now a Junior in H.S. and is in dual enrollment. She will graduate H.S. with her associates degree at the same time completely free of charge, including the books! Her step brother did the same. He is currently at FSU and is doing great with the Bright Futures scholarship that most Florida kids can be awarded. So, while I understand you may feel that way, as someone that truly appreciates and loves my community and has raised kids here recently, that has just plain not been my experience at all. What I do know is that if you go out looking for only the negative...you will find it every single time.

Sorry that you decided not to mention Crime and the quality of schools...
Weâve had an unbelievably good experience for both our kids in Marion county schools. Our son even graduated with his associates degree at the same time as high school. They both went to N H Jones for elementary which is one of the best schools in the State. Literally in the top ten. So, for me personally to say I have found the schoolâs to be anything less than awesome would not be right. I think public schools across the country are struggling lately, so I donât think there is a fair comparison. As far as the crime, again, I have been the victim of crime, several times in fact. But never in Ocala. I feel safe in Ocala. In a recent national news article, Ocala was listed in the top ten safest places to live. Crime is everywhere. Ocala is not perfect. But I am incredibly happy that we chose to raise our kids here. I am grateful to be a part of this community and I am proud to call it home. If you donât feel the same, thatâs ok, but really, wouldnât it be better to find a place you love to live? I canât imagine living anywhere that I didnât like. The world is a big place, find your happy đ
The one thing these realtors donât mention on these lists is employment. I wanted to buy a house here with my family because of all those great pros, but theyâre worth nothing without a decent income. Iâve spoken with many realtors from Ocala and theyâve suggested to not buy there. Ocala is beautiful, but itâs a bring your own money, retirement and work from home place unless you want to work at Walmart or something like that. Or you can drive an hour or so each way back and forth to and from work. Thatâs the reason for all the 55 and over communities growing as stated in this video. Beware! Without a decent paying job, like most of us need you still canât afford to live here.
I'm so sorry you were led to believe that the only place you could find employment here was wal-mart at minimum wage. Had you asked me, I would have been happy to direct you to many many many companies that are currently hiring for well above minimum wage. In fact, Wal-mart is not even a large employer here at all. I would have mentioned the multiple hospitals, the World Equestrian Center (they have awesome benefits) Fedex, Amazon, Chewy, Lockheed Martin, the Marion county public schools, Dollar Tree that is currently building a 14 story distribution center (the largest in the nation) Signature foods, closet maid, the entire Villages which has incredible job opportunities as they are expanding yet again and the Buccees that is currently building the largest Buccees in the nation here as well as countless others...but yeah, if you want to make "decent money" somewhere else and work with Realtors that apparently don't want to sell you a house and told you to go elsewhere (?) I may stretch my imagination to think there may have been more to the conversations...but again, you posted on my channel, but never asked me right?
@@GreatExpectationsRealty Thank you very much! OMG Lockheed Martin!! I had no idea. I was an aviation mechanic for 22 years lol. I had no idea. Iâve been noticing some differences lately and think we have contacted some people that just werenât interested in us for whatever reason. My wife and I are 3rd generation south Floridians. Weâve been together 32 years and always wanted to move north, but just not exactly sure where. Price point there obviously and the crowdedness down here have encouraged us even further. We may have a good opportunity soon to do so and Ocala looks great, but we just donât want to make a bad financial decision. Most probably feel this way to at least some degree. How far away the school for our son is still a concern, but maybe 16 miles up there is different than 16 miles down here. Currently it takes me 30 minutes to go 6 miles to work, but middle of the day may take 20 minutes. Hey thank you for the info. I really appreciate it! Itâs just hard to find the honesty anymore when your just a stranger. Thank you.
@@Tswa73 I'm glad I was able to help. Lockheed Martin is a great employer here, but there are so many others like E-one and Artemis Plastics. Cone Distribution was just given special recognition by the Secretary of DBPR last week for being a phenomenal company and employer. They have a crazy good employee retention rate.
You are right, 16 miles in Ocala area is not the same as down in South Florida. 16 miles for us is 18-20 mins. It's such a wide open space, that to drive 15 mins around here is completely normal. It's normally a very pretty scenic route as well. You can watch some of the videos of me just driving along across the county and see what I mean. Again, really glad I could help.
Too many people moving to Flrida. Result, driving u-p rel estate cost aro=und Ocala. The humidity the worst I have ever been in. Close to Panama. The states with loest sales tax have the worst roads. Glad we we moved out west.

I had to look it up to figure out why I do that. There is some evidence to suggest that looking to the left, right, or up while speaking can indicate that a person is recalling information from their memory. In general, people tend to look in different directions depending on whether they are accessing information from their visual memory (spatial memory), auditory memory, or verbal memory.
For example, looking up and to the left has been associated with accessing visual memories, such as visualizing an image or a scene. Looking to the right has been associated with accessing auditory memories, such as recalling a sound or a voice. Looking down and to the left has been associated with accessing verbal memories, such as remembering a word or a sentence.
These associations are not absolute and can vary between individuals. It is also possible that people may look in different directions for other reasons, such as feeling uncomfortable, or simply because they are looking at something that caught their attention.
So, while looking in a certain direction while speaking can provide some insight into how a person is accessing their memory, it should not be used as a definitive indicator for all people all the time. We are unique.
For me, I believe it is because I am extremely introverted to the point that I could not speak to people (anyone outside my home) until I was about 14. I spent hours practicing saying hello to strangers and introducing myself while looking at them instead of my shoes. I have overcome my intense shyness to the point that most people would never guess how bad it truly was in my youth. To have done hundreds of videos and have a twice weekly radio show and be a real estate broker and instructor is a long way to have traveled...but if you really watch closely, you will find indicators of how it is still not natural for me to be out in front. Such as the difficulty I have with looking away from the camera if I get caught up in what I am talking about.
