Somalis need to stop rewriting history to suit their narrative. Ajuran and Adal sultanate were not ethnic Somali empires. The ruling class of the Ajuran were arabs who hailed from modern day Yemen and Saudi arabia. The ruling class of the Adal, Ifat and Showa sultanate were arabs and ethio-semeties from shewa who are the precursors of the harari ethnic group. Zeila was originally an arab and harari city. Somalis had no role in the political, economic and social structures of those empires. We need to look at reality. Ajuran was an arab family. Muddafar was apart of the Ajuran family and established a dynasty in the city thus linking the two entities together for the next 350 years. Read the myth of Somalia. Read Arabs: A 3000 years of history, empires and tribes. Finally read Arab seafaring in the Indian Ocean.

Somalis have noble blood. That’s why they are a proud people. They can’t be compared to small countries that gain formal independence from the colonial states that govern them in the 1960s. It’s online now that the Somali history is being translated into English and the rest of the world is learning about it…but there so much more to learn from this ancient people and their noble culture.

Why did somalia made a different flag during its independence while the Ajuran empire already had its flag for hundreds of years before? I think the Somalis avoiding to accept the flag of Ajuran as its state flag was the biggest political blunder and has made Somalia insignificant historically. That is some of the reason why the Somali people lost its ancient history.the current state of Turkey and Ethiopia had all accepted the flag of its empire as its post independence flags thus preserving their ancient history.

The Ajuran clan residing in the horn of Africa region have nothing to do with the Ajuran empire established in the 13th century. Confusion arises regarding the origins of the Ajuran empire because the name looks identical to the Ajuran clan. We need to make a clear distinction. The ruling elite of the Ajuran sultanate were coastal arabs who primarily engaged in fishing, trade and commerce . Somalis are predominantly nomadic and they were still pagans roaming around the desert in search of water/pasture for their livestocks. Somalis lived in the interior while the Ajuran mainly resided in the coastal towns of the Indian Ocean. Ajuran sultanate was of arab origin.

No, there is no truth in this. The Tutsi are natives to Rwanda and Burundi. The Hutu are immigrants to Rwanda. The Hutu went to Rwanda with the Bantu migration that spread the Bantu in most of Africa. Before the Bantu expansion, the Horn African people used to live in most of East Africa and North Africa. As the Bantu expanded into lands populated by the people who are now known as Horn African, they absorbed the native populations and imposed their languages on them. This is whey the Tutsi now speak a Bantu language.

@@horusba2620 Well said sister. Ajuran were arabs. The ruling elite of the Ajuran sultanate were predominately of arab origin. This is a historical fact noone can deny. Ajuran came from arabia(Hejaz region) and settled in the coastal towns of the Indian Ocean in the 8th century. They began to expand their empire into the interior and riverine areas of modern day Somalia in the 13th century. Somalis or the Ajuran clan today have nothing to do with Ajuran Sultanate established in the 13th century. Somalis are nomads who constantly roam around the desert in search of water and pasture for their livestocks. They were stateless and roaming around the desert in the 13th century. They were not even practicing Muslims. Ajuran came from an elite and noble background. Not some pagan nomads roaming around the desert and isolated from the rest of the world until the late 1800s. Nomadic societies are generally anarchic and lawless. Nomadic Somalis don't build civilization or culture. They tend to consume or steal what's already there. They look down on labour. That perfectly explains the reality of Somalia today. Ajuran was always suspicious of Somalis. That's why they constrcuted huge walls to prevent them from penerating their cities. Ajuran were arabs. How can nomads who didn't even have clothes to wear build such a powerful empire like Ajuran.
