    Are you able to choose which type of aircraft you'd fly (Fast Jet, Multi-Engine or Rotary) or would the RAF choose for you?

    • @mikedove9
      @mikedove9 Před 7 lety +6

      Jack Nope you are drafted based on a series of PILAPT tests which are computer based co-ordination tests, these determine what your naturally would be suited to flying.

      You can add a preference of which type of aircraft you'd like to fly but the RAF will ultimately decide for you based on your tests

      Comments above are incorrect, based on your score through the elementary flying grade course and the slots available will determine if you go FW, ME, R.

    I really want to be an Air force pilot however I have asthma I have had No asthma Attacks and have no breathing difficulties at all I do regular sporting activities and my asthma has never caused Any problems for me in-fact if I hadn't been told when I was young I had asthma I wouldn't even know I did have it! Can I be considered for entry into the RAF as a pilot?

    • @royalairforce
      @royalairforce  Před 7 lety +3

      James
      Unfortunately any history of asthma will preclude entry for all Aircrew roles. If you wished to investigate further you would need to write to the Dept of Occupational Medicine at RAF Cranwell to put your case forward.

    • @royalairforce
      @royalairforce  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi
      That's the RAF's commitment to you, 12 years guaranteed employment. You can leave earlier if you wish. You will need to give a minimum return of service post your phase two training though (we spend a lot of time and money training you for a role, so we expect a certain amount of return), it's usually around three years, but can vary.

      @@sasankbavuluru3096 Hi
      You'll do EFT first for six months, before you're streamed. If you're streamed FJ then yes. But you apply as a pilot, the RAF decides which type of aircraft you'll fly.

      @@sofedits2872 Well my question to you is what's right for a start?!?..not everyone who asks these questions has a chip on their shoulder judging by your statement - it was a question of curiosity as I don't see hardly any frontline combat pilots who are from a black, asian background like we do in the US so trying to work out if people from an ethnic background like myself are actually interested in flying planes or in frontline jets in the UK. Calm down mate!
