- Unboxing Xiaomi's Poco M6 Pro, a budget smartphone packing Helio G99 Ultra brains, a 64MP camera with OIS, 5000mAh battery and AMOLED screen. All for a price of $199/£199. My hands-on Poco M6 Pro review tests out the gaming prowess, camera performance and more.
There's some problems here, as you'd expect from such an affordable smartphone. For instance, Xiaomi's old MiUI launcher is slapped on here rather than HyperOS. Here's hoping that's updated soon. Likewise, the Mediatek chipset doesn't support 5G, so the Poco M6 Pro peaks at 4G.
However, the plastic design looks quite smart - I like that purple finish, which is less of a grime harlot than the Poco X6 series. Likewise, the Poco M6 Pro once again boasts brilliant battery life. And you can play games like Call of Duty and PubG with a fluid frame rate, and full Game Turbo smarts.
That 64MP camera is a bit basic, but fine for everyday snapping. Just watch out for dim light and subjects who won't stay still, while the video peaks at 1080p.

It is good to see someone is still making an affordable phone that does the basics. In Australia 5G is not available outside the major cities, so 5G is more for those people too frightened to face the Drop Bears lurking in the trees outside the cities.

I have OnePlus Nord 3 and turned 5G off on it. That way it consumes less battery as coverage is spotty and 4G speeds are more than sufficient enough.
@@jackwilson5542that is a really good idea for phones that are capable of 5G or for people who don't need it or don't have coverage. It saves the phone from wasting power searching for 5G❤

Very nice phone, light in hand and very reactive as well as being stylish. A lot of it's characteristics hold up very well to and even surpass my Redmi Note 10 Pro. Living in Auvergne France the lack of 5G is not a deal breaker. Fully recommended.

Poco f5 looks what better
I am usually a Redmi Note user, but even with the fancy new camera on the note 13, it seems to have a bit of a blueish cast to the images. Is the Poco M6 camera as 'blue-ish' ? (because I know both are from Xiaomi's brolly, but not sure if the lens manufacture/camera tech is the same.) Also, does the camera go back to a default setting every time you use it, or will it 'remember' the choice of the 64Mp? Great reviews. :) cheers - oh, and small extra query - what is the audio recording capability like? Samesies? Or is one better than the other? :)
Hi Uncle Spurt! Watching this on my shiny yellow X6 Pro, purchased in no small part following your excellent review. Really fancied the M6 for the headphone jack and expandable storage but the 4g only turned me to the X6. With the very generous trade in for my old Poco F3 offered by Xiaomi I paid just over two hundred British punds, very pleased , cheers!
Does it feel like an upgrade to the Poco F3 or pretty similar?
Hi, yes it does. It feels faster in use, the screen is sharper and the cameras seem a little better. The F3 is still a solid phone but I wanted something with more storage and longer os support, and it's a bit lighter 😊. Hope this helps.

This is a excellent phone from Poco, the M6 Pro, for people who will NOT spent a lot of money to buy a new phone. Stereo speakers !, 67 Watt charger, Amoled display. Mediatek G99 Ultra!. Only 4 G. Forget 5 G, cause 4G will still available for 10 years .

Been considering between this M6 and the Redmi Note 13, and that stereo speaker just wins it over for me. Really wish that the Pro variant for the Note 13 had the expandable storage slot, I'd have chosen that over the M6 for the better performance but alas, I'm very dependent on my current phone sd card, so not being able to use it on a new phone is a major bummer for me. Redmi Note 13 pro 4G goes with sd slot. It is basically poco M6 pro with 200 Mp main camera

Agreed, I have an X3 Pro as well, and although it no longer is my daily driver, I do use it from time to time because it still works. Although still on Android 12 though and there are not frequent updates.

Seems perfect for me, like everything I ever wanted especially the headphone jack! I settled on a Pixel 6a for now but I hate not having a headphone jack or SD card slot. Also not sure if it's all Pixel phones but my signal keeps cutting out and I am pretty sure it is Pixel phones!! Heard the same from others with Pixels too. Have you noticed the same? Tempted to buy this but I'll try go a bit more with this as I mostly use my phone for none phone stuff anyways lol
Pixel 6a is officially THE WORST phone I've ever had... was lured away from a Mi 9 by the marketing bs about the 6a camera....sticking with Xiaomi from now on! 👍

This is the channel I always rely on when it's upgrade time. I'm coming from a realme 8 which has been great and after extensive research I think the Poco M6 pro is going to be the one for me. If anyone out there is reading this and has any suggestions on other phones in this price range I should consider, I would really appreciate it. Thanks mate, - The closest here in CA would be the Poco M5s or the Redmi Note-12 for around $200- Cdn bucks, if you want Amoled display on a budget.
Is it able for both SIM 1 and SIM 2 to connect to 4G networks simultaneously ?
I`ve had the F3 for 2 years and love it, my next phone will definitely be a Poco, just need to work out which one. This model might be a step down after the F3 though.
How could you have the control center blur?
Using Helio g95 for 3 years now. Crazy how my phone is still fluid smooth. People don't give mediatek that much credit. They are really nice chips and that helio g99 should be even better
That's largely due to the bad reputation that Mediatek has earned years ago that they're struggling to shrug off, especially in the custom ROM scenes
And the bigger Problem were with the software not the chip

I'm using the Poco M5 pro, it's still a great phone( just no SD card slot)
I own a poco device, but the fps turbo shitter doesn't really seem to work. It just shows 60 fps achieved because the moment you do it everything on the sceen is still, so it can achieve it. But once you start moving and check fast the turbo mode you see yourself around 30 fps

Apart from the no 5G this phone is very very good value for money, I still don't have 5G coverage where I live and it's intermittent when out and out also for me so that doesn't seem to be a problem for me. It has everything I want in a phone the headphone jack, SD card slot and under screen fingerprint reader so it seems like something I'll consider when next upgrading.

I have experience of Xiaomi it's good if you get the pro version rather than the normal one as the pro can run 120hz max on all games if you have Redmi note 12 pro or above.

@@damienremwick1059yes, certainly a well-rounded phone with most of the components and internals borrowed from the X6 Pro. The 12/512GB variant should serve us for a long time, and I particularly like that all 3 of Poco's phones appear to share the same battery, which would make swapping the battery less difficult or pricey. I'm still using Poco X3 NFC with the still pretty fast Snapdragon 732G for 3 years 3 months now, and I intend to use it for a year more until X7/X7 Pro comes out because the performance is still very good, but 6GB RAM is slowly getting eaten away. The battery is still at 85% health too - I take care of it by charging the phone from 25% to 75%, and most of the time I use an 20W charger instead of the 33W one.
The M6 Pro charges at 30-35W on average when the screen is off. You should turn off super fast charging in the settings if you're going to use the bundled charger, or just use a 20-30W aftermarket charger, like I do

Wouldn't touch AliExpress, return issues, good chance of being asked for import duty on delivery and it's not much cheaper than Amazon which is now £229, there's a voucher code if you buy some add ones.
I were about to get this phone for my brother but since this model came in 2024, so I got him a Poco M5s instead. Not as powerful as M6 Pro but nevertheless, my brother like it so much. Got it in a very good deal too in September sale.

UFS 2.2 is garbage even tho this guy never mentions it. This phone should be priced less than 229 which is what its listed on Amazon at, it should be 199 or even cheaper. That Helio is slooow!
Good things I like are headphones jack, micro SD slot and stereo speakers. I personally don't care about 5G but lots do so take that as you will.

It is the same as Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G but with camera with less megapixels
Except the redmi note 13 does not have optical stabilization, no nfc, 33W instead of 67W charging and is overall less powerful (338 vs 450 antutu score).
