In todayâs episode, we went to Gauravâs family home in Delhi to experience a true Indian family meal. We were greeted by Gauravâs mother and wife who are the head chefs of the home. Before preparing the dinner, we sat down to enjoy homemade chai and gobi parathas (cauliflower) with pickles. We also dressed in traditional Indian clothing (Indian tunic and shawl for Sabrina, and a kurta for Luke) with a flower garland for the special occasion. After our snack, it was time to start cooking in the kitchen. With fresh ingredients from the local market, they made: rajma (red kidney beans with rice), dhal (made from lentils), bean sprout salad, chicken tikka (marinated chicken grilled on skewers), lump cabbage salad, chicken curry, green chutney, chapati (Indian flatbread), carrot halwa (sweet dessert) and they even hand painted this claypot for our visit! It was incredible to watch these women cook these Indian dishes and they even explained how every ingredient was used!
With all of Gauravâs family, we sat down to eat. All of the food was cooked authentically and was incredibly DELICIOUS! We would like to give a big thank you to Gaurav and Gauravâs family, for cooking these Indian specialties, welcoming us into their home and sharing a meal with us. Have you experienced a family meal in India as a foreigner before? What dish was your favorite? Let us know down in the comments!

Mom food is always best. I have a Sikh Indian friend and I would eat his moms cooking, it was always a very simple looking vegetarian dish that they just called subji. But since she roasted and hand grinded all her own spices it turned out a bit different every time and I have no idea what they were, I just knew it tasted good. She'd make two big batches of it every week for her family along with a big stack of handmade roti covered in ghee. After a night of drinking we'd go to his house and it was the best drunk food ever, so satisfying and filling and SPICY. He joined the military and moved so I haven't had it in years but it was a million times better than anything I've ever had in an Indian restaurant. I wish I knew how to make it or at least find a place that served something remotely as good but I'm just stuck with memories these days.
I know exactly what you mean, and exactly how you feel. And I'm Indian, lol. Just from a different part of the country. We feel the same way when we discover home-cooked recipes from a different region through a friend, which has never been replicated on our plate again and just ended up being a nostalgic memory.
Sabzi just refers to something based of vegetables. You can refer to CZcams for various sabzi recipes made from different kinds of vegetables.
