This is a complete tutorial on how to replace your Original Philips Dreamstation 1 foam turbine casing with the foamless OEM version found on Amazon.
I don't know if the plastic is safe however i personally feel it's low risk compared with the alternatives and if you have few other options it's just one that will help you for a few months

Please understand that the advice i give is always general. A lot of it is just my own personal opinions. I'm not a doctor, i'm not a chemical engineer, i'm just a bum on youtube so please remember that.
The FDA and Philips have both stated they do not recommend you A. remove the foam. B. Make any modifications to your device.
Please remember that in Australia you can get a full refund and you do not need to go through the recall at all! - • 💸 Philips Cpap Machine...

You were so humble and subtle folks might not realize how you intelligently laid out all the various options. The production quality of the disassembly made it so easy to grasp. Also you knew the first thing popping in our minds would be the outgassing.

I just completed installing my empty plastic casing. This video is the best I have found for disassembling and assembling the DS1. I tend to agree with Nick there is no perfect solution, but I consider this to be the best choice for me out of several imperfect solutions. I did wash the canister out with clean water. The unit is on now blowing air. All seems to be working as usual. Thanks to all who contributed to the various solutions, and especially thanks to Nick. Great job!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I purchased the foamless chamber and followed your instructions for installation. It was very easy. I did not notice any change in loudness, etc. I will admit that I was pretty scared to see the condition of my foam, and was extremely relieved to see that it was intact. Now I am able to sleep without worrying. I truly appreciate all you have done to help those of us who rely on these machines. Happy New Year to you and your family.

The company who made these are a godsend, I have been finally getting good sleep now for a week which I haven't since August. Very easy to replace and it was only $30 here in the USA. Whenever Philips wants my unit back I will swap back out the casing with the foam one. $30 to replace this casing is a much better temporary solution than buying another machine out of pocket for $1000.

Ordered one from amazon and it arrived yesterday. Install was quick and easy. Thanks so much for the instructions. I've been using my Z1 for the last 6 months, and while it's a great machine, living without the humidity has gotten difficult in the cold dry weather. I got a good nights sleep last night. I put some money in my medical savings account to buy a new machine in the new year (of another brand! debating between the Resmed and F&P) Now I have some time to decide when they become available. Thanks again for all you do for us. Happy New Year!

I recently completed exchanging the foam chamber for the foam free one. Nick's video is spot on. I did use the flat piece to lightly push the tabs in on the back of the machine to get the top loose. It wasn't clear to me on the video, but after I got it loose, it came off easily like his video shows. Thank you Nick for all this info and how to change our to defective piece! I didn't suffer any downtime from the repair. I must use my machine every day per D.O.T. regulations as a truckdriver.

Good directions from the supplier (only took 2 days to get the part), but it would still have been difficult without your video. Nice job. Outstanding. Turned it on and there is a very slight "whine" that my wife doesn't remember, but she says it's no big deal and she's very glad to have a machine that we KNOW doesn't have a "FoamGate" hazard. Thanks a lot! Good-on-ya!

Thank you so much for the video and I bought one of the same replacement and I just went through your video and was so scared to try this. But after watching your videos, I went step by step to get mine on and I done the test drive and it's wasn't any different than the one before changing it on volume of air flow and I am one can say from the bottom of my heart, Thank you so much. I been using my Dream Machine for at least over two years or more and I took a huge chance on keep using it because I can't get the new one because my sleep doctor have to give me another study because I haven't been over seventeen years since then. I bought my machine on Amazon and the old machine stopped working and I couldn't go back because I didn't have insurance coverage and by chance I got it from online. I didn't have a prescription on the Dream Machine so I placed the time settings myself and I slept well without any problem. The first machine had no black modes because I never used water to keep it from showing up inside the machine. After taking the old one out it's still clean. But not taking any chances. Happy New Year 2023 and stay blessed. 🙏

OMG, this is really amazing. I have been using my DS 1 as my CPAP machine for two years since I was diagnosed. I love it. When I received an email from Phillips letting me know they have a dedicated website to see when I might be in getting a replacement unit, and how they determined the priority of how soon one might get the replacement, I assumed it would be a DS 1. NO, it's a DS 2. After reading more reviews than I care to admit I realized I was not going to like the DS 2. Several hours later I stumbled across your video suggesting the company make a foamless casing. Simply Brilliant. From what I can tell there is only one company selling them through Amazon and I assume it is the one you dealt with. Looking forward to viewing your other videos. Glad I found you, I'm surprised we don't hear more about the foamless casing.

Thanks for this video. I've been keeping track of anything you put out about the recall since I have a DS1, and when I saw this I immediately bought it from Amazon. It arrived yesterday, and I had no problem making the switch in my machine. I installed a noise level app on my phone and did a before-and-after test, and the machine's peak (on inhale) went up from 41dB to 46dB--only a 5dB difference. So that's good... certainly not a big enough difference to keep using the foam! My wife and I both slept just fine with that small additional sound. Thanks for this video and I'll keep watching for anything new about the ResMed machine! The province I live in will pay for part of a new machine every five years, and my five years is up in June, so I'll get my DS1 replaced with a ResMed then (assuming there's supply) Cheers from the other side of the world (Canada)!

Great video Nicko. I ordered the one with the foam first, but then saw your recommendation to not use, so I ordered the empty chamber one. I think your right on this one being the best choice. Perhaps Santa will be bringing my replacement unit. Hopefully one day this all will be past us. Until then, Cheers! Keep up the great work.

Fiddling with my replacement, the DS2. Sorry it is so much larger than the DS1 with reservoir removed, for travel. Was just using the DS1 for travel. Decided to search for potential for replacing foam, or removing foam, and found your video first! Glad to know there are options, like digging out the old foam, replacing with foam or this 'empty' cartridge solution. Thank you!

I ordered it on Amazon but thanks to you they now offer it without foam (oddly it is a slightly more expensive). This is CLEARLY the way to do it and I did it. Worked perfectly. Their video is really good as well. Sort of like "Cookin' with Martha". I like their screw driver....it is magnetic so you don't lose screws in the device. I did find removing the casing from the back difficult because the O ring was really tight. I also did not disconnect the ribbon from the motherboard. Since I have a BIPAP I was worried about the exhale value. I did find that while I didn't notice any difference on inhalation, it was a bit more difficult now to exhale. That was solved by lowering the exhale value by 1. I can't thank you enough for what you have done here. I watched your multiple videos on this a number of times, looked at their video on the box a bunch of times, then felt confident enough to order it from Amazon and do it myself. Worked perfectly....couldn't be happier.

I bought two, for both of my Dreamstation Auto 1’s, installation was easy. Everything fit. My OSCAR 1 day data summary was the same before and after ( one machine had foam already removed six months ago). No apparent noise difference. I think the foamless DS1 is a better machine than the DS2.

Hey, thanks for your video. You saved me so much mental stress! I do lots of travel and I am always worried something could happen to my CPAP. Now I can leave my primary CPAP at home and use the recalled Dreamstation for travel. Without the humidity chamber the recalled Dreamstation is the perfect travel CPAP. I ordered the empty turbine casing from Amazon and will also see if I can use the drain weasel approach to removing the foam from the original. Will be providing a donation shortly.

Thank you for the video. If you go slowly and have a stable, flat surface and some heavy items to use as supports, you can complete the process without disconnecting anything from the circuit board.
The fiddliest step is clicking in the airflow outlet (the one with the o-ring). You have to line it up and use a bit of force, but you’ll feel, see, and hear it click into place.

Thanks NIck. I'll be getting two of these when/if they ever send me a new machine. I'll replace the new one and replace the one I defoamed but cutting into it at the same time. Along with my Resmed I'll have a couple of backups. I figure no matter what new machines the come out with the old ones worked so they'll still work. Since I purchase the stuff myself three machines should last me a good long time. As far as the plastic is concerned. The entire breathing path goes through a few different types of plastic. I figure my miracle foam bed probably gives off more fumes that the machine can.

Hi, thanks for the info on the MediHealer foamless box. Regarding the fumes (from both plastic and adhesive) here is what they told me: "the plastic used is the same PP(polypropylene) plastic as Philips, the name of the adhesive used is hot melt adhesive, with hot plate welding process. Both plastic and adhesive are tasteless and not easy to decompose. There will not be any outgas/fumes from plastic & adhesive under normal use". The technical info is correct (if really what they use in its fabrication). Seems legit, so I am going to use. Thanks mate!!
