- Couching is an easy way to add color and texture to a variety of projects by sewing cord to the fabric! Use the BERNINA Couching inserts to turn the Adjustable ruler foot #72 into a free-motion couching foot. The set includes three inserts with hole diameters of 1.4 mm, 1.8 mm, and 2.2 mm for different sizes of cord.

Can this be done on any machine that does free hand embroidery?
Correct! This technique doesn't require an embroidery module. It is possible to do couching in embroidery ... but it can also be done free hand.
It's not technically couching if you straight stitch through the yard, though...
VERY poor choice of font and font color for the explanations in this video. White font on what is often white or light backgrounds? How did this even pass a production review before posting it??

Could that be a lot of lint to the machine?
Not more than with other surface embellishing techniques. Just think of needle punching (see czcams.com/video/K0QffHfwQ6c/video.html). This is no problem for your BERNINA sewing machine. In general, however, we recommend to clean the hook area regularly in order to keep it free from lint.

Hi Must Love Dogs, thanks for your feedback. Please make sure you have set the playback resolution to HD (cogwheel icon). This will hopefully improve the result. That being said, we agree that sometimes there is not enough contrast between text inserts and background in this video. In our newer videos, we have chosen a different solution for text inserts and are working with voice-over as well.
