Willow Swale and Traditional Hedge Living Fence

  • Brief tour of the swale we dug and staked with willow back in 2014. Now it's a thriving bank of willow we laid in a traditional English hedge in November 2019. Multiple functions as a living fence, fodder bank, and habitat for critters and birds.

    Thanks for the great work. I wonder if this setup is useful to keep out deer and rabbits. Deer may need two parallel strips of willow. And then they wouldn't be kept out after the laying year. Still, it's interesting to consider other functions.

      thanks for the kind words! I think its a deer deterrent but a rabbit habitat haha

    Very nice to see this type of fence not only in Europe! I wish there would be some too in Québec. Are you going to do a Masterclass type of event when it's going to be the time to lay the hedge again?
