The orientation of a runway depends upon the direction of wind. Runways are always oriented in the direction of prevailing wind. The reason behind it is to utilize to the maximum the force of wind at the time of take-off and landing of an aircraft (Lift and drag produced). The direction of runway controls the layout of other airport facilities.
    Wind Rose Diagram Type-I
It is based on direction and duration of wind.
Minimum 8 directions is taken but optimum is 16.
Data includes total percentage of time in each direction.
Concentric circles are drawn to scale according to the percentage of time wind is blowing in that direction.
Total percentage in each direction is marked on the radial line drawn in that direction.
These points on radial lines are joined together to form a duration map.
Best direction of runway is indicated along the direction of the longest line on the wind rose diagram.

68% of duration cross wind is less than 25 kmph, for remaining 32% chances if exceeding cross wind velocity 25kmph we should design another runway in next suitable direction? Right
If I get any value less tha 95% as wind coverage should I go for designing alternate runway ?

Yes, in that Case another runway is required.

These data you can collect from meteorological department..
They do record all these type of data
      Related to wind, rainfall etc

Sir at the last of the video u told that 2 runway is required here,,,but in which direction the 2nd runway should be designed? Is there any specific direction with respect to the 1st runway or any other?
Plz reply fast sir,,I need it urgently

Canculate the wind coverage along remaining direction also,
      Wherever it is maximum
Orient second runway in that direction

@@civilshiksha can the wind coverage of any other direction be greater than the best direction of runway?

    • @civilshiksha
      @civilshiksha  Před 4 lety +1

      No...
Wherever it is maximum that is best direction, Beacuse you can get maximum advantage of wind..

@@civilshiksha you have told that the longest line in the wind rose diagram is the best orient of runway,,but I am doing a problem where the wind coverage of the longest direction is lesser than an other direction...
So in this case what will be the best orientation of runway- the longest line in diagram or the line along which the wind coverage is greatest?
