At 10:25 if he was going to "set the independent" he should have grabbed the furthest lever on the right and pushed it all the way up. He pulled down on the train brake, which would actually release the brakes. In the actual incident this is based on, the engineer had the throttle set to Notch 8 (full throttle) and set the independent brake (brakes just for the locomotive) before hopping out to realign the switch and failed to get back on. In that incident the brake shoes burned off due to the intense friction. At 10:53 train controls don't move on their own as if they were possessed. He even later says that he set the throttle to full power. So for accuracy and consistency's sake, before he left the cab the train brake and throttle levers should have been pulled all the way down, the locomotive/independent brake lever pushed all the way up, and the reverser (closest lever) should have been pushed up indicating the train is moving forward.
What really killed me when the cop asked about the Deadman switch. yes it does apply the train brakes as well as the locomotive brakes and opens the PC switch for the throttle goes to idle.
There’s 2 things I learned never use phones while operating a locomotive and never leave the cab while the train keeps going that’s what happens when you leave the cab then you have a runaway train going into traffic and that’s why it always caused a lot of trouble it’s always a hard work being a engineer and a conductor
or even jumped on the slave unit ladder ! but that s what Hollywood is all about ! fictionalizing everything from a REAL Life incident/ lol I wonder what REAL Dewey would have made ov his Portrayal and why he really didn't re board the train ! ? Letz do the REAL life science , Th train would have been moving too slowly in the yard to Burn out the Independent Brake EVEN at Notch 8 power! The Weight ov the train + the level grade , would have acted as a stopping force WITH the Independent brake Equalizing out the Traction force . The Engines , which would have s truggled to maintain output pulling at that weight and with braking in effect , the engines would have stalled or at the very least lost momentum and drive ! It would have therefore NEVER have gotten upto or past 20mph ! Any train driver in America would have known that you d NEVER put that much load stress on your wheels on a 39 car consist which tbh , is a pretty LIGHT and standerd Train compared to some that are 3 times as much . so only having 2 Loco s on the head end would have plenty ov traction force aWITHOUT "gunning it " at notch 8! wgich, in real life would caused wheel spin (at the very least! ) and thus s lowi8ng iit down all the more ! . Yeah... North American train brakes are... odd? Each car has its own air reservoir, which is refilled from the brake pipe (the big air hose connecting the cars) reduce the brake pipe pressure (moving the train brake lever in the cab for example) and the main car reservoir applies the brakes, lose your brake pipe and you lose the main reservoir, dumping the air and the brakes lock, BUT to apply brakes you NEED air in the main car reservoir, and that leaks out over time with no brake pipe pressure, which is why hand brakes are used to hold the train in place. So if you DO NOT connect the brake pipe and charge the air in the cars, you won't have any brakes at all. (May be wrong, am not an actual engineer, just have lots of dumb knowledge)
After watch this movie, I realized that in 6:21 shows us of a Turbocharged GE's 4-stroke diesel engine had a sound of Turbocharged EMD's 2-stroke diesel engine 😂
I try not to criticize this movie because it is really accurate, but with only 39 cars it would only take 1 4400 horsepower AC4400CW to pull that train. If they never tied on those air hoses the brakes would not release unless every single freight car had its brake wheel released. There’s an EMD 645 on a GE locomotive, and I keep hearing different horns in every scene. There, said my piece!
@@TZrailfaning I think he set the dynamics because the throttle on the AC44s is multifunctional. Forward all the way is dynamic notch 8 and reverse is throttle, that’s why the lever went backwards and throttled up
TV Tropes also criticized the train having the same exact multiple times, saying something like,"After the third time, the train just sounds more silly than intimidating." 💡

Movie is super
I love this movie and i especially love the roar like sound effects they gave triple 7 at 11:43
6:26 that start up sound isn’t the right sound for that type of engine only for a SD40-2 or just a SD40 isle sound
10:53 tfw an AC44CW sounds like an EMD
It's Been 7 Frickin Years And There's Still No Part 2
At 7:48 the 777”s horn sounds like wheeling and Lake Erie #6353 horn
I try not to criticize this movie because it is really accurate, but with only 39 cars it would only take 1 4400 horsepower AC4400CW to pull that train. If they never tied on those air hoses the brakes would not release unless every single freight car had its brake wheel released. There’s an EMD 645 on a GE locomotive, and I keep hearing different horns in every scene. There, said my piece!
And not to mention the AC4400CWs sound like SD40-2s
Also he said he was going to set the independent break but all he did was release the automatic and set the throttle to idle.
@@TZrailfaning I think he set the dynamics because the throttle on the AC44s is multifunctional. Forward all the way is dynamic notch 8 and reverse is throttle, that’s why the lever went backwards and throttled up
@@TZrailfaning but yeah he didn’t even touch the independent
@@keokukrailfan77 no he would have to go farther to set the dynamics but good guess!
Please upload other parts too..
Tambah video lagi dong
I love how they use a sd40-2 noise on a gevo
Middle Tennessee Railfan that's not a gevo it's a dash 9 but your right funny how they used emd sound on a GE.
RICKY GARCIA it’s actually an ac4400cw borrowed from CP but yeah they should have used the correct sounds.
RICKY GARCIA the ac4400 is the ac version of the dash 9 but other than that their identical
Gavin Rook the still a dash 9 the only thang is the dash9 is dc and ac44cw are ac.
Gavin Rook would have bin nice if they used a SD70ACe.
My first saw this movie and I will always take his lunch down there and he worked on
6:43
‘’You can tie the hoses once we got a park and Bunny’s quit his bitchin’’
He really is yapping though.
10:49 Runnin
If me
Unstoppable!
What???
Longing!
😢💔
When I saw this movie when I was little, I used to actually think trains would drive themselves like that 😂
I'm watching this in 2021, and while I still love the movie, can you post this again but WITHOUT the spanish subtitles.
Can you put part 2 please?
10:23 ''Don't worry il set the independent.'' Literally does the opposite thing later...
He does the opposite thing and makes the train go faster
R.I.P Stewart
The train has the exact same sound file in this movie over and over I get frustrated, still one of my favorites
That’s what makes it so intimidating!😊
TV Tropes also criticized the train having the same exact multiple times, saying something like,"After the third time, the train just sounds more silly than intimidating." 💡
You make a part 2
9:06 horn travel 6
I spy Union Pacific trains in the yard
