One of the most frequent questions we get is how we "get," "generate" or "make" all the art. Wanted to have a super quick answer to the question. TLDW: it's an enormous amount of work.

I'm very happy that there are still people who respect art and understand its value. The research behind the pieces and the translation through the paintings is not only impressive, but an example to be followed! I love your content!
Thanks! It definitely stings sometimes when folks assume it’s AI-people’s perspectives have been warped.
@@HistoryDose You might have covered this, but I am wondering if prints can be purchased? Thanks
@@noleftturnunstonedyes! There’s a link to buy prints in the description of this video 😊
I'm continually blown away by the attention to detail in Joe's artwork, and Chris's research. Keep up the amazing documentaries guys. It's very obvious the amount of work that goes in to these. We have at least five years I'd say before we have to fully submit to our new AI overlords. Gotta keep flying the flag of humanity until then!
Thanks so much, Pete! To paraphrase a certain ranger, "A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of Midjourney and ChatGPT, when the age of men comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight!!"
And my iMovie!
Massive respect to you, some of the art you've made is genuinely jaw dropping, actual masterpieces. Like I genuinely can't explain it, the color, the grittiness of everything, the historical accuracy, it feels alive. Absolutely astonishing work.
Thank you! Joe takes a lot of inspiration from Romantic-era painters such as Grimshaw and Bierstadt. It's a matter of blending natural beauty and composition with careful research. Honestly, I'm as curious to "see" what these historical scenes looked like as you, which is what makes creating these so fun!
@@HistoryDoseomg i thought some of these paintings reminded me of Grimshaw!!
@@carpinchipedia7009 Joe is flattered to hear that!
I already had an incredible amount of respect for this channel. Now i have more.
Insane dedication and passion. My favorite channel
As an indigenous person me and my family who watch these videos with me absolutely love the attention to detail you display in every shot.
Thank you! Glad you and your family like them!
Huge respect for your dedication to history
My RESPECT and APPRECIATION for this channel has just gone up tenfold!
This is insane, you actually are a channel of integrity and values. Respect.
I found your channel through this video and I'm blown away. The way you present and teach history is truly beautiful.
Thanks so much! Please keep watching! 😀
Joseph's Artstation page is actually how I stumbled across this channel! Really love your unique approach to video creation on this channel.
YEAAAAAH
The historically accurate drawings mean so much to me! I'm glad to know how well researched the pieces are!
This is a testament to why your videos always feel so genuine. Every one. Every time. Fantastic story telling.
Cheers from Australia.
Round of applause for Joseph! 👏👏👏👏👏
the art you guys produce in your videos are amazing to say the least. keep it up!
Thank you!
There are many history channels on youtube, but I knew the first time I watched one of yalls video this was something unique and special, the level of immersion makes me forget that I'm watching a video on youtube instead feel like I'm there watching history unfold through a looking glass, and that is perhaps how history should be told, it should make you feel something, sometimes sad, sometimes inspired, sometimes pumped up, it almost makes you share in the emotions of the people involved in a sense, even if just a little, it is very powerful.
Thanks so much for this comment! Exactly-we think connecting to the experience of the past, good or bad, is enormously important for actually understanding the past.
This channel is genuinely one of the most immersive and informative history channels I've ever seen on CZcams or anywhere else, my particular favourite was the one on Brian Boru.
The art has always been topped here with these videos, easily. One of the most impressive aspects of each dive into history.
One of the few history channels that truly cares about their production.
Your brother is a great artist, his unique style helps make your videos special.
I've been watching you guys for a while now and appreciate everything you do. It's great to hear behind-the-scenes details that we couldn't possibly know as the viewer (unless you're an expert in that specific area). Keep up the great work!
Thanks Strat! The goal is to make the experts happy too 🙂
Im surprised to see u here, even though i shouldn't be, cuz bannerlord is meant to be historical. Still surprised though!
@@quickquranrecitations3091 I watch every video these guys put out :) I'm still waiting for them to do Amir Timur though... Been asking for over a year now lol
The way your art has improved over the years has come together beautifully great work
Bro, its on my bucket list to get a full size piece from u guys when i get the money.
You guys are absolutely amazing. I’ve always had a passion for historical accuracy and it seems like that is something that media strays further and further from each day. Like the Netflix Cleopatra “documentary”. But then I see you guys and it is a beautiful sight. People who care about preserving the past and keeping it alive.
Mad respect to you guys for all the hard work and thoughtfulness behind your videos! We can clearly feel the passion and dedication behind the work you guys put out, and that wouldn't nearly be evident as with AI
Seriously one of the best channels on CZcams! Y’all are amazing. Please continue sharing true, unfiltered history with us!
I love the artwork on this channel paired with the superbly written narration this channel brings something that is unique.
Thanks so much 🙌
the art is one of the main reasons why i love your channel
Thanks!!
The amount of research, even for your brother,is huge
Respect 🙏
The art has always been incredible
You’re brother is really talented. You guys make a great team
Since I watch your first video, I've always wondered how was this incredible art done? This is amazing! You guys are an amazing team, and people can see the quality of the story telling as well as the art. I hope you get more and more views! Thanks for all that you guys do.
Thank you so much!! Happy to have your support! ~Chris
man i would love to learn how he paints like that, i genuinely love his art style and wish to recreate that some day.
Joe has a lot of innate art ability, and much of it is trial and error, but he's also taken online courses with renowned digital artists like Craig Mullins
@@HistoryDose jeez man, your brother is awesome for sticking with it
I'm so glad I randomly found your channel one fateful day a couple months ago. Absolutely sublime content that we all mind-blowingly can enjoy FOR FREE. You deserve tens of millions of views.
Thank you! The algorithm has highs and lows (currently in a bit of a low), but all the views and comments help!
Kudos to you guys, y’all deserve 1000x more viewers!!! Seriously dedicated
Art on this channel is beyond amazing so better than majority of video game/movie art. Just amazing.
100% pure talent. Thank you Joseph :)
I'm lucky he's my brother for sure!
Ive been watching the channel since the Stilicho video all i can say is hats off to you guys and continue blessong us with your content
A veteran! I often wonder how the Stilicho video might’ve looked if we had fully used Joe’s art for it.
KEEP MAKING CONTENT!!! this channel has been taken out of my recommended for whatever reason but i will ALWAYS keep coming back because this is some of the best history content on the platform. THIS CHANNEL WILL EXPLODE SOON
Thanks!! Algorithm has been rocky lately, but hoping it picks up!
The amount of detail is astounding, I’ll never look at one of Joe’s pieces the same way again ❤
Thank you for all the hard work put into these videos !
Love the effort and care you guys are putting into your work!
Thank you! Just saw one video and was amazed by the artwork. As an historian, I thank you
Thanks for the kind words! History needs detail-obsessed people 😄
I’m so glad CZcams recommended me your guys channel, it’s probably my favorite channel that goes over historical events now. Plus as an artist seeing these pieces gives me so much inspiration for drawing all sorts of things! Thank you guys for all the time and hard work you put into each video. I think I can speak for everyone when I say we appreciate it more than you know!
Thank you!! This means a lot, and we’re so happy our work is inspiring other artists like yourself
always eager to watch a new video when you put them out. now i know why it's so long between posts. really respect your dedication to history, the quality of the writing, and an even greater appreciation for the art. thank you for what you're doing.
Blown away by all of this. Wonderful job guys!
Amazing how everything is drawn in these videos. What I need to know is how you get the amazing music and sounds to make the art come to life.
I recently found your guys channel and am very much interested in seeing more of your work especially after this. Thank you very much for your team that puts as much effort and work that yall do. Cheers
Your videos look effortless, which seems to be the proof that it demands enormous effort. Thanks a lot I always appreciate watching and rewatching your vids
I’m really glad that so much attention to detail goes into each piece, amazing work
I had no idea truly how much you guys dedicate to historicity! I absolutely love this kind of stuff, I've always thought how awesome it would be for someone to make a game or tv show/film striving for the same kind of rigorous historical accuracy. It's truly special to watch these kinds of things, a documentary almost cannot get more immersive. I'm curious now if you aim for the same kind of thing with the music side of things. How spectacular it would be for some film crew somewhere to create a historically authentic movie scored only by music the people would have composed contemporaneously.
Joe the artist and editor here. Thanks so much! As far as the music goes, I've been creating more and more original scores for these videos. As always it's a balancing act of providing a more cinematic and immersive feel for a modern viewing audience while still giving a cultural accent to a video that is true to its time and place.
The best depiction of historical events and visuals are stunning. As an artist I so appreciate the gorgeous artwork and in a companionship with the detailed narrative! Bravo!
Thanks so much!! Nice to hear from a fellow artist!
That is such a relief. I knew the art was too good to be a.i. Please keep doing what you do, and in turn I hope you all get what you deserve out of it, and never run out of passion.
Thanks, that means so much! It can be disheartening seeing the art landscape get flooded with prompted pictures, but I truly think people want to support artists
I’m glad this video was made, this channel has some of the best artwork I have ever seen. Thanks for giving us a peek behind the curtain.
Absolutely love this channel they set the atmosphere perfectly like the tone of the video is just perfect
Thank you guys for the work you do l, you’ve inspired me and my brother to want to create more. 🙏🏽
It's stuff like this that was why I fallowed y'all. Thanks for all the work and details that you put in.
thanks for letting us peak behind the curtain I've always wondered how you came up with such cinematic pieces of original illustration. Your art has always made your channel and excellent historical storytelling stand out from the rest
You both are the best! I love writing, i love history, i love films, and i also like art and you guys combined it all together in one channel
I love the art style and depiction of historical events and environment of places, your brother is an excellent artist that deserves appreciation for his passion and great effort.
The both of you have produced one of my favorite and genuine history Channel I have ever watched. The art work is beyond captivating and the research is phenomenal. I wish I could support you more substatially than just the free interactions I can here.
Love the art in your videos!
Thank you so much for all your hard work, keep doing more please! ❤🙏
Will do! Joe is painting right now!
The art is amazing on this channel!
All the respect to you brothers. Your integrity shines bright!
Incredible. I've always loved every video you guys have released. Thank you so much for all your effort! Believe me, it is very appreciated
Thank you!!
Amazing. We appreciate the time, effort and research that goes into making these videos.
Thank you for watching!
One of my favorite history channels by far. The hard work shows.
Always looking forward to more of your content brothers 🙏
Much appreciated! Another video coming soon
Man, i cant believe we are able to watch all this for free. I always respected your channel, but you pointing out these things took everything for another level. Huge respect man, keep up the work.
Thanks!!
I’ve shared your videos with so many friends and family. It’s unreal, how much dedication and hard work you guys put into each video. A lot of the times I’ll listen to it while I’m driving to work, which now feels like a complete disservice to how much work you put into the art. Guess I have to watch the whole backlog once again!
Thanks so much!!
I have three pieces I've purchased from Joseph, they're all incredible and I'm impressed every time I look at them. Always such a hard choice which one to get next.
You guys are absolutely incredible! Thank you for the videos and we all look forward to everything you put out in the future!
Thank you! At work on the next video as we speak
What I adore about this channel is that every painting is a window into times from the shining legions of Rome to the street-wise Meyer Lansky, and that the art doesn't just focus on the heroes of the tales but also the mundane moments present but not much reminiced about in those times, to make the effect that you're taking part in their story with them. Here's hoping you do the New world empires justice soon; I'll gladly drop half a grand on a painting of Macchu Picchu in the days of the Sapa Inka's golden age, or the great observatories of the maya surrounded by learned men writing by firelight amid the backdrop of an unpolluted sky and the glow of the band of the magestic milky way. Maybe one day we'll see the flower wars of the Triple aztec alliance and the fall of Tenoctitlan to the silvered swords of conquistadores and the golden glow of the humble friar's cross. In any case, yours is by far the best history channel I've ever seen on youtube. Keep up the good work, and give your brother my regards to the artwork he makes that now adorns my walls.
Thanks so much! You totally get our intention with the channel. Numbers and maps are an important but incomplete picture of the past; questions like, "what did it look like?" or "how did they feel?" are enormously important for understanding the humanity in human history. I've recently made more of an effort to include more quotidian scenes (e.g., village life, diet, clothing) in the scripts and art.
I was actually doing some research for fun into the Inca literally 5 minutes before typing out this reply. Maybe it will be an episode this year!
~Chris
@@HistoryDose I really hope the inca does; their architecture and what they accomplished is the stuff of legends, from their intricate road network through the andes to the massive fortresses and terrace farms they constructed. They in their time conquered all the world they knew and all the kingdoms of the four corners of the world and tied them all together in the Roman Empire of the New World.
Always impressed by the art
Dedication to history of this stature is unbelievably rare in common media. You guys' work reminds me of 'The Northman' in how meticulous the historical accuracy of every frame is.
It's such a breath of fresh air to not have to worry about the innacuracies of the content i'm watching so thank you for all the work you do!
Thanks so much!! We loved the historical details put into the Northman, and Joe often talks about taking an “Eggers approach” to our videos
The amazing art and style of the videos is what made me invested in the channel at the start. I just binge watched cause it was and is just so incredible
Awesome! Thanks for the kind words!
One of the best history channels on the platform.
Ive recently discovered this channel and absolutely love it. The information and art used here not only just phenomenal, but really inspires me too as an artist. Hats off to yall
Thanks!! That’s very encouraging to hear 😊
Hi History Dose, this is my favorite channel on CZcams and your videos are just absolutely jaw dropping, from the artwork to the epic voice and especially the sounds of battle or background noise just make this THE best history channel, I love you guys keep up the amazing work, Im gonna go do the patron thing rn
Thanks so much for the kind words, Corey!! We have a great video in the works right now!
Amazing work. Thank you!!
I'm always blown away by the art on this channel. You guys should do a video on Tenochtitlan sometime!
Yes, we’ll cover Aztec history eventually!!!
I have always loved your videos and thought how incredible your art is thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Happy to share the process. A lot of these details go unnoticed in the background, but they're an opportunity to share more about the subject :)
This is absolutely incredible. The artwork, the research, the history, all of it. Keep it going guys, we'll always be here to support you.
Thanks so much!!
I admire this channel so very much. I respect those who strive for historical accuracy while trying to maintain an entertaining video. The artwork is phenomenal and as an artist myself who loves to draw, you guys inspire me to want to get into digital painting myself. Thank you for your hard work!
Thanks so much! We cherish comments like these.
Man, gotta give you some respect for the work you do. Your story telling is amazing. I've kinda been in a rut for the past 2 weeks but watching some of your videos has reignited my passion for learning history . Keep doing what you do . I'd love to see your take on some of the more famous and historically significant stories/battles/wars.
Thanks! Glad our videos have clicked with you. As for famous battles, the Trafalgar video came out in December! I’m sure we’ll do some more famous conflicts this year!
I'm blown away, I did not know these were handmade digital art. Huge respect to both of you for this quality of historical depiction. I'm just a student now, but I'll make sure to support your work when I land a job. Keep up the good work guys!
Thanks for the kind words!
Beautiful work my favourite history channel
This is beyond insane levels of effort. Humanity at its greatest.
😄 thank you
I think in many instances this form of art is even better than a 100 million dollar movie. You get to see a piece of art and as the narration is laid before you, your imagination gets to fill in the rest of the imagery.
Thanks for explaining your creative process. You present excellent standards of both historical accuracy and artistic representation. An outstanding YT channel. A credit to your capabilities.
Thanks so much!! We’re hard at work on one with TONS of historical details right now.
This is astounding effort, well worth rewarding, rare in our era. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your work, I assure you we do not take it for granted.
I would honestly love more breakdowns of the artwork
Amazing, as you two usually are!
Its inspirational the amount of effort and love you both put into your work
Thank you so much!
Keep up the good work. You guys are amazing!
Absolutely beautiful!
Cool to see all the work that goes on behind the scenes! Thanks for sharing your perspective on how AI image generation propagates/reiterates historical inaccuracies, I’d never thought of that before
The amount of depth is outstanding and is absolutely brilliant, my favorite video you guys did was the Thomas Alexandre Dumas video.
Thanks!! The Dumas story is tough to top 🙂
Amazing. No matter what, you two will be able to look back on a piece of art that was created for the world. Keep it up
