I think it not “tsu” (つ) but “su” (す) since those two sound are often mix, in kanji 済む is sumu means to end sth.
it would be written as 勝負はまだ済ちゃいないよう!

I think what really makes this fight, for me at least, is that, in a way, O-Ren isn't afraid of Kiddo because O-Ren believes that she is all that superior. Both woman are incredibly strong. But O-Ren, more than anyone in the film, understands the power and desperation of revenge, as she killed the man who murdered her parents when she was at a very young age. I think that when she saw Kiddo for the first time in four years, she knew that it was revenge that brought Kiddo to her.

She knew it was her from her voice, she called her out in Chinese and when you’re the most powerful boss and someone calls you out and says they have unfinished business, then you know you’re about to fight. O-Ren underestimated Kiddo’s skills.

O-Ren underestimated Kiddo the whole time and I can see why. Kiddo may have been the best of all of them, but that was years ago and she'd been in a coma for so long O-Ren thought she's lost all her skills, and in a way she was right. The Kiddo that Pai Mei respected wouldn't have gotten hit by her in their final sword fight. Kiddo lost a lot of her skills, but even then she proved to be the best out of all of them.

This felt extra personal - because it was. O-Ren's betrayal ran almost as deep as that of Bill's, because she and Beatrix were very close prior to the Two Pines massacre. The look on Beatrix's face as she walked out from behind Sofie was downright chilling.

O-Ren knew the moment she saw Black Mamba and the intensity in her eyes that there was a chance she wasn't leaving alive, despite her backup. She knew what they did to her and from personal experience what kind of woman Beatrice was from their time with Bill. That slight moment of fear from someone who knew they fucked up by not finishing the job when they had the chance.

So many layers to this scene.
    1. The chaos inside the room and the tension about what could happen to “Charlie Brown”
    2. Oren Ishiiii - Beatrix’s war cry and that moment of reckoning in Oren’s eyes .
    3. The thugs storming out of the room, and visibly perplexed , that it seems for a moment , they’ve forgotten protocol and have to remind themselves to slide the doors open; and Oren’s ceremonious walk out of the room.
    4. The close up to Beatrix’s eyes, perfectly synched with the “Death rides a horse” boom.
    5. Beatrix’s rage at seeing Oren, and reliving the past, which climaxes in a swift slicing of Sofie’s arm.
    6. Oren’s surprise as Sofie’s arm gets sliced….Oren has seen a lot of things, but witnessing Sofie being mutilated and Beatrix bathing in her blood does a job on her.
    7. The perfect transition of Death Rides a Horse, as the bar’s patrons storm towards the exit , and Beatrix menacingly walks towards Oren, then the shots of the Crazy 88’s faces in a state of shock and rage thinking to themselves “who is this crazy b****h?”
This scene is l poetry in motion. One of my favorites ever. I didn’t understand the genius of Tarantino until Kill Bill.

For those interested in some theory, a response I posted to someone's comment on another video:
The idea about honor is nice. I always thought that O-Ren allowed Beatrix to get up because killing her in a fashion similar to how she killed Matsumoto is beneath her. If you pay attention, every one of O-Ren's kills since Matsumoto has shown her either decapitating or headshotting her targets.
When O-Ren said "Silly Caucasian girl who likes to play with samurai swords. You may not be able to fight like a samurai, but you can at least die like a samurai."
To me, this is what decided the fight. It is a loaded piece of monologue for multiple reasons:
    1. If what I am saying is correct and O-Ren believes that killing any other way that decapitation is evidence for lack of skill then we can understand why O-Ren did not kill Beatrix on the ground.
    2. Per an interview with Lucy Liu on her role in Kill Bill and the script for Kill Bill, we find out that O-Ren has always wanted a Hanzo, but was rejected when she tried to obtain one. O-Ren took this rejection as a personal insult, but as we find out from Beatrix's encounter with Hanzo, Hattori took an oath to never forge or give away another weapon. Upon finding out that Beatrix possessed a Hanzo, O-Ren likely felt insulted and this is the cause of the insult that she said to Beatrix. Referring to (1), Beatrix slaughtered her guards, true, but not in any organized manner. Beatrix cut people in half and tore out their eyes -- this is not the mark of a warrior who should be wielding a Hanzo, it is the work of a "Silly Caucasian girl who likes to play with samurai swords." Little did O-Ren know, Beatrix was not granted a Hanzo due to remarkable skills but rather because Hanzo felt an obligation to help right a wrong he felt he made possible (he trained Bill).
    3. As I referenced in (2), the original script for Kill Bill is available to the public, you need only google "Kill Bill script" to find it. In the script, we find that both Beatrix, along with Bill, inducted O-Ren Ishii into the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. This is very crucial information, as it was at age 20 that O-Ren was one of the greatest assassins in the world (per Beatrix's narration) but it was not until age 23 that O-Ren joined the squad. O-Ren already had a reputation upon her induction, and it is with that notoriety that the words, "but you can at least die like a samurai" result in the death of O-Ren. In essence, what O-Ren said was, "I am not going to lower myself by killing like you, instead I will collect your head as a mark of superiority." It is at that point that Beatrix put herself one step ahead -- she knew O-Ren's next move. As you can see when the fight resumes, O-Ren is cut after she attempts to behead Beatrix, and Beatrix having correctly predicted O-Ren's killing pattern was able to score a hit and limit Cottonmouth's mobility.
This was a fight between old comrades and was not a fight Beatrix could simply power her way through. It almost seems as though the Hanzo sword was a requisite for O-Ren's death. Even if Beatrix managed to get through the Crazy 88 with another sword, the psychological trigger that pushed O-Ren to reveal her cards would be unaccounted for. Also, the killing blow in this fight was a toss-up between a 360-degree decapitation vs a 180-degree slash through the skull, decided by the quality of the weapons in use.

I know O-Ren was a villain, but she's always been my favorite character. Love how she was such an elegant badass in this movie. The confrontation between her and Beatrix was so beautiful and iconic too. I like to think that O-Ren definitely recognized the level of threat this situation posed for her and just how much she'd screwed up, given her own background with revenge.
Would totally watch a movie following O-Ren's rise in the yakuza, or when she worked together with Beatrix.

Her cutting Sophie's arm to let everyone know she meant business. The look in Oren's eyes when her name is first called and when she first sees Beatrix...the song... everything!!!!!!!! Oren recognized that same revenge in Beatrix that she herself had as a child and knew shit was goonna get real. Beatrix knew exactly how many people she had to go up against and still showed up! The music building to a crescendo, the business owners placating & being humiliated by Oren Ishii’s entourage, every actor here is exactly on point & they're all wonderful, the costumes that all seem like homages to various American, French & Japanese films, the gorgeous set so perfect for a dance floor & then a massive martial arts battle. The zooms to the eyes, the two beautiful women in the middle of so much death, the exaggerated martial arts sound effects. All of it works!! Every time Beatrix calls O-Ren out that gives me chills. I wonder if O-Ren recognized Beatrix's voice after all these years, because her face was like "WTF? Who is this calling me?" Just for a second. And the timing is so perfect, Beatrix make everyone shut up with this one line. Look closely at O-Ren's lips in 1:28 she says the bride's first name "Beatrix." At the moment she saw her, she knew exactly why she is there without a doubt. Cutting Sofie's arm like that shocked even me, and I am not easily shocked. I love how even the body guards are shocked and pissed, they probably saw Sofie as a family by now and wanted to protect her too. I like that O-Ren had some logic and decency to send Charlie Brown away. He is innocent after all. And then a moment later sending a body guard to die, instead of fighting Beatrix by herself right there and then.

    • @bakairosan4126
      @bakairosan4126 Před rokem +1

No you are mistaken. She did not send Charlie Brown because she cared about his innocence or something. She gladly sacrificed Crazy88 for a chance to beat a tired Beatrix in 1vs 1.
She did that because the owner of this establishment was loyal to her... Hence she switched off lights to give Crazy88 a chance to win.... Charlie Brown here was an employee aka an uncertain factor. If you are fighting a life or death battle, you minimize uncertain factors.... And yes O-Ren was that crafty it was shown in the anime part of the film telling her life story....
