There will never be another Akhtar Begum
On the 10th April 2024 I visited her grave in Lucknow.. Beside is also her mother's grave. Physically she is gone but her sweet Voice still lives on for ever.

I first time listened this Gazal in movie Dedh Ishqia. Then I searched it on CZcams and found the original singer Begum Akhtar.
From that day I started to listen this sweet voice with full of pain and love.
Begum Akhtar Sahiba became my favourite Gazal Singer.

Yes, I do remember, how I as a kid saw my father listen to Begum Akhtar every evening with a drink in his hand during 1970s and 80s. He is no more.
Begum Akhtar's voice brings those memories rushing back. Sad and painful but thanks to Saregama for preserving the voice of Begum Akhtar and my memories.
Back in the day men used to have class and substance in their taste. I too at times enjoy my drinks whenever the FM radio plays such tunes.
I really enjoy listening to the GAZALS sung by Begum Akhatar. With or without drinks.A sort of trance is experienced.

After this concert, she took ill and passed away in Ahmedabad. Do you remember the venue of this concert? Interesting that you were present on that occasion. Her mausoleum, I think, is in Lucknow.
If singing or rendition of a ghazal can make you fall in love it is this song. "Once we were enamored to each other, May be you remember or not". Wohi Yaani Vaada Nibah ka - Oh God what subtlety in saying , ' That, means that Promise of Commitment, don't know whether you remember or not" Superb. No doubt it brings the soft reminders, loving teasing and Lucknowi nazakat all in one song.

I was brought up in Hyderabad (AP) My last memory of Hyderabad in 1940s was listening to Begum Akhtar live . That memory at my first love in UK and its demise inspired the following poem; just the first few lines:
