Esther Ofarim is definitely one of the greatest female singers of all time. Enjoy her crystal clear, yet powerful voice while performing this wonderful song of Malvina Reynolds.

This was the first version of this song I ever heard...on a charity sampler LP album of "protest" songs on behalf of the German Red Cross which I got in 1966 or 1967, when I was ten. Later I heard the versions by Joan Baez, The Searchers, and Malvina Reynolds who wrote it herself. It gives credit to Malvina's genius that I can't decide offhand which version I like best. But I keep thinking that Esther ultimately has the edge, barely ahead of Joan's take. And I can still sing it by heart.

What have they done to themselves, so sad and so talented and so driven. Hope Esther will keep on singing forever but the ex was right now there is to much orchestra killing her voice but 77 years young and still better than lots of singers in today’s talent shows. I am so surprised that people just because looking for a special song on u tube discover her now and are absolutely amazed what they hear.
