This is the winner announcement video for the American Idol Barbie game, where Mattel conducted a poll to determine who should win the "contest": Barbie, Simone, or Tori. This announcement also doubled as a promotion for the second wave of American Idol Barbie dolls. In conjunction with this release, Mattel would also conduct a sweepstakes where the winners could attend the American Idol finale and meet the stars.

I even forgot I voted when this happened, you've unlocked a core memory for me. But in retrospective it was obvious Barbie was going to win - they gave her one of Britney's most iconic and recognizable songs and Britney was at the height of her fame back then, she was America's sweetheart. Of course kids were going to vote for Barbie.

IKR! She was the best imo, but you know how the Barbie brand is. They wouldn't make Barbie lose, even if her friends were better.
@@HaveYouHeardDolls It's weird that they said it come down to two, lol there were only three girls to begin with. Simone was my favorite also at the time.
I think a big thing was that Tori and Barbie sang very well known songs at the time, Simone sang "Ladies Night", which is an older song.
Simone was definitely the best of the three in both waves. Barbie was a total mess in the first and that single sleeve looked awful. And the hair was uglier than in the product photos due to the highlights making it look like Barbie hadn’t washed her hair in months and the default outfit needed much better shoes and the second outfit’s top looked bad with those random strings that were just hanging down from the bottom.

I Like About You, Tori’s Song, came out the same exact year as Ladies Night. Lil’ Kim sampled Ladies Night in her 97 hit Not Tonight which hit number six on the Top 100 charts so it was still pretty well known.
I found the first wave Simone in box at a thrift store!

Also may I ask how you upload these things? Do you screen record or convert them into MP4, etc? If you screen record what recorder do you use?
Thanks for watching! This was the result for the first wave. You could say the second wave pictured in the video was more of a "victory celebration."
For these videos, I use the screenshot video capture tool (shift-cmd-5) on Mac with the BlackHole audio driver to capture audio. I also found that the Loom plugin for Google Chrome works well too (though the free version only captures 5 min of video/audio and you need to crop out the recording toolbar). Hope this helps!!
