  • If we’re being honest, most people have never heard of Suriname. We’ll at least not here in the United States. Which is unfortunate because it’s actually played a small role in US History.
But hopefully…this video will help put Suriname on the map.

@@allthingsshanti918 if you get a chance, take a tour to the Brownsberg nature preserve. It's cheap, 80$USD, about two and a half hours from Paramaribo. They give you food and drinks, you get to see the lake, and walk to waterfalls. We saw so much of the country on that tour. If you're looking for a place to stay that's cheap, try the overbridge river resort. If you're in Paramaribo check out Zu Zoes restruant and the palm gardens across the street. If you're looking for a place to stay in Paramaribo I suggest the Prins Hendric Suites, it's kind like a bed and breakfast in a 150 year old historic home. Check out the Paramaribo Zoo and definitely the Slaugth Sanctuary.

Awesome Country! Lived there for a year and a half in the 1980s. Back when it was real. No cell phones, just really great people to talk to. Going into the bush was quite the experience. The Cayman didn’t worry me, the piranha no problem, most of the snakes were evadable but intimidating, the monkeys were butt heads. The big cats were worrisome, but two things drove me crazy down there. The big assed spiders, and I don’t know what the hell it was but while in a rubber duck/raft, I saw something roll in the water that had to be 10 to 15 feet long because it just kept rolling right next to us and as big around as my thigh. We were deep in the jungle and the water is like tea so you can’t see down into it or you’d probably piss yourself. Anyway, I never found out what that thing was, and I’m good with that. I’ve rambled enough, Suriname is great!

No they wouldn't have had to. The Charter of the Kingdom of the Netherlands states that every country within the Kingdom is equal. The stronger or wealthier parts should support the weaker or poorer parts. That is very vague. To see how it would be, just look at how they treat the countries of Aruba, Curacao and Sint Maarten. The Netherlands was very stingy, to say it bluntly, to come in with financial help on these islands. Eventually these countries had to take loans from the Netherlands, in which the Netherlands has a lot of say in how it should be used. It caused a lot of strain on the relationship and Sint Maarten sort of even "sued" the Netherlands via the UN, for acting neo-colonialist.
Now I understand why the Dutch want some control over the money, because sometimes the islands, haven't been financially responsible with the handeling of money. So they want the assurance that their money won't be wasted. Even when we were a country within the Kingdom they weren't willing to invest in Suriname.
