Thanks for reacting to these gems fromNightwish’s repertoire. The two albums with Anette were fantastic, she made a big contribution.

Anette and Marco are awesome here....no changes needed for the vocalists for sure. Tuomas layers just brilliant music elements here again like you found and mentioned here. Child choir is a treat too.

Another rarity - perhaps because it was never, as far as I know, performed live?
I suppose being on Imaginaerum with so many other great songs that have been played live gets it overshadowed, which is a shame.
The film, of course, is pretty dark so it's perhaps surprising so many upbeat songs came from it.
Another very rarely heard, but which has been performed live quite a bit on the tour, was track 1, Taikatalvi. In that case perhaps beingcaung in Finnish puts people off, but a nice bit of Marco.
Rest Calm has many Tuomas hallmarks, as you pointed out. The children's choir, so much associated in my mind with Imaginaerum, is really effective.

Too bad I haven't had the chance to see the movie. I still haven't heard that song you mentioned. Maybe at some point I will hear it. Rest Calm is definitely a favorite. 😊

@@lauraa.musiccorner1 Oh, do listen to Taikatalvi! In fact, at some point, listen to the whole Imaginaerum album in order (it's how I mostly listen to these songs). It's their most coherently composed album, in my opinion much greater than the sum of its parts (e.g., the way "Turn Loose the Mermaids" acts as a resolution to "I Want My Tears Back"). The film is an experience, though a tricky one if you have had friends or relatives with dementia - I missed large chunks first time through because I was in floods tears. It tells a related but slightly different story to the album.

I will keep that in mind!

@John Wood You're right, as a concept album it's even better than the great songs everyone knows.
Taikatalci is beautiful, IMO, and in live versions its Marco sitting in a rocking chair behind a curtain so he's in silhouette- quite effective.
The film is dark and weird but very well worth watching. It gives the whole album a different perspective and each song makes more sense.
Just bear in mind dementia and so on and it makes more sense.
      I love that film.

I rated this one quite low on my Imaginaerum rankings to begin with, but it's steadily grown and has overtaken some of the ones I gravitated to initially, like Scaretale. I do listen to the instrumental and orchestral versions of NW songs, quite often actually (maybe 15-20% as often as the full versions), but being an album listener I do it by album where I have them (I always buy the extra disc versions where possible).

I do enjoy listening alot of the instrumentals. It gets me into the mood and think about how the process of the music was made.
