- Electric Motorcycle Build - E-Bike - Gen II, Ep 1: Trellis Chassis
Hey guys. In this video I'm going to build the new trellis chassis for the electric motorcycle. As some of you know, I built the original bike exactly 2 years ago and have been driving it and thinking about all the modifications that I'd like to do to it since. If you haven't seen it yet, check out the link below.
I built the frame and swingarm for the original bike using 11 guage 1"x3" steel tubing, and it's plenty strong enough but at 30 lbs for just the main frame alone, it's a bit on the heavy side for the size of the bike. I used a similar geometry and came up with a trellis design using 1" diameter and 3/4" diameter by 0.083" thick walled DOM steel tubing to make it strong but a lot lighter, which I show with a comparison between the two frames at the end of the video. When I say geometry, I'm referring to things like 26° rake angle, 4" trail, 54" wheelbase, etc. It's very similar to most 300cc sport bikes, and will subsequently handle like one. I'll share more of those details with the plans when I post them on the website.

That frame is beautiful. Awesome job man
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing processes that few of us get to observe! As usual, beautiful design and execution.
This is very inspirational, thanks for sharing!
That's a beautiful chassis design you've made, and I'm jealous of that chassis jig as well! 👍
Outstanding work James! Looking forward to the next in the series.
Simple and avesome explanation. Thank you dude.
Love all your build.
You got a perfect process 🔥
Your work is incredible, James... We look forward to the next chapters... Congratulations.
Sei un capo..!! Complimenti.
Beautiful frame.
excellent work, thanks for sharing
👌 *nice frame.. ditunggu kelanjutanya*
Absolutely beautiful, James. That's some seriously incredible work!
Thanks!
living my dreams through your videos, (I dream one day I would be able to turn metal into something beautiful like you do.)
absolutely stunning work, and the ability to bring imagination to life.
Beautiful work!
wow, that's a thing of beauty!
I'm really looking forward to the next episode.
With these inspirations I'm starting to develop my electric motorcycle, here in Brazil
YES! I'm so excited when I see new project from James! 😁😁
I learned lots of new tricks here.
A tool you could build & use - simple as exhaust clamp. Clamp to round tubing to get a flat reference before using tube bender. Really handy for lining up multiple bends on single piece. I made a square with a hole (size of tube) then cut in half. Added two counter bored holes on one half & tapped hole on other. Easy to clamp to tube with socket head bolts.
I learned so much from this video. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
The precision work 😍😍😍😍
Прекрасная работа!
You are a master man, well done.
This is the best frame-building video, period! I learned many things from it. I'm very, very picky when I rarely subscribe to channels but you definitely deserve a place on my shortlist.
I really admire your work with the tools that you have. I have a lot of professional tools yet I can’t make a average bbq set…😅
amazing skills !
Well, this dude got some real talent under his sleeves, got plans for his previous build, can't wait to see the plans for this one too. one man army. Hat's off to you man.
That jig is cool!
Great project!
One of the best.So ımpressive result. My best regards👍👍👍
well done.. great skills...
gonna wait for the next video.
the contraption really helps a lot.
Inspirational 👍
Good clean build so far!
🇬🇧That, James is a work of Art!💯 I'm very proud to be Subscribed! I used to be a fabricator in a welding shop and watching all you do brings back nice memories!👍.
🤘😎🤘
Fantastic work. Was a pleasure to watch.
Ты просто красава!!!
Твои изделия это что-то
U doing very will.
We love u.
very nice frame
impressive fabrication skills,brother!
🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐 you are the man this frame build is sick! Excellent work my guy!!
All the Love and respect from iraq
You make it sound so technical.
Me, I'd be like...put this thing in this. That didn't work. So I did this and got mad for awhile and quit. 😆
I like the design you chose. Looks very clean and badass at the same time. Hopefully one day ill be able to do a project like this
Look forward to seeing the results this reminds me of the Duke monster
Another great build James. I like the narration. It reminds me of a Harris Magnum frame from the UK.
I really enjoyed the first bike build. Watched it many times over and over. I can already tell this build will be no different.
This was an awesome video to watch. I look forward to the rest to come.
Legal muito bom
Glad I discovered your channel!! Can't wait for your build to progress! Good luck! Thank you
Thanks and welcome!
You are awesome dedicated man.. I wish I was with you and learn..
awesome job man.. I like that frame design. congrats man
Wow, impressive. It would be nice to see the same quality put into a mid drive electric motorcycle! I know its probably a bit more work with the gearing, chain, tensioning, etc but probably worth it and you get tuning of the gearing, better rear suspension, less weight, and probably more reliability in return
Posees un talento enorme.
Master craftsman 👍
I wish LOL
I just followed a guy that's made a ebike version. ORTONS CUSTOMS. You guys are different cool guys😊
You can get an app on your phone that does angles and bubble level. The sensors in phones are as good or better than what's in the tools. Mine is dead on.
Best of luck for your project.
This is my favorite video! Great job
Thanks!
I'd love to see this a little longer, FAT tires, as a Cruiser. Great work!
Good job
Verry good idia sir
looks incredible! following!
Thanks!
The two year wait was worth it and the body looks proper, can't wait for mk II's next installment
Pretty sick
Thanks!
Очень круто!)👍

Art
Eagerly waiting for second episode
Biggar and better!
i love bike,best of luck
Hi James, good to see you working again: btw awesome frame, light and the geometry is just cool.
Primero saludos desde republica dominicana
I think I'm in love
Been a joy to watch your skills grow James! Well done with this, it looks amazing so far!
Thanks!
It's cool man
I'm already looking forward to the next video, because the frame has become really nice!!
There is also a lot of work involved, which is not always evident in a video.
Really great work. ;- )
nice! good thinking to copy known geometry; so many people slap stuff together and it handles super sketchy.
Nice jobe, man!!!❤❤❤
👍👍👍
hearing your smooth welder gave me the rest: I HAVE to service my MIG-Welder!!
12:20 welding really went...*chidori*
Just two worbs : you rocks !
words, sorry
❤❤❤
رائع :)
❤
that is impressive to see how much can be done with different design. losing the 20 lbs is significant.
Супер !!! 👍
Love the frame build! The only thing I would change is to make the dropout for the rear wheel a bit stronger. I have mountainbikes which have beefier ones . They take a real beating. Just wouldn't want to see you get hurt.
Thanks. They'll be fine though. I've done this quite a few times already, and they're far more robust than the small aluminum dropouts on any dirt bike I've ridden - they take far more beating than a mtb. 3/16" steel is pretty tough.
As a fellow frame builder,, love it, fabwork done right,,, just wished youd have tig welded it
good 😍
Brilliant! I’ve grown to really enjoy your work on your channel! I feel like there really isn’t a limit to what you can do! Have you thought of your next project yet? It would be interesting to see you attempt something like the Jetson One. Where you build the cage and custom batteries to fit and then order in some controllers and bldc motors. I mean flight has to be your next direction Id assume at this point! Thanks again!
LOL, we'll see :)
Круто !!!!
Nice
10:10 16:02 No, no, no, no, no.. You can't mix grams and pounds!!! 😂 This thing looks fantastic! Amazing work. Thank for sharing!
HELLO I WISH YOU GOOD LUCK ✋👍👍👍🇰🇬🇰🇬🇰🇬
I AM FROM KYRGYZSTAN
👏💪💯😎
Wow
it's like as if we could watch davinci narrate and film his inventions creation process. thank you!
funny, me as an artist thought about the first bike-welders more than 100 years ago and how excited they maybe felt ...
Awesome job man and i am desperately waiting for yours next video 🤔🙄
