    For the last question, is it not -12-19?

      I'm sure you've been answered but incase you haven't, we are looking at k as the movement of the graph of g. -19 and -12 are the y-intercepts of the two graphs, and not the movement of the graph. So when g goes through -19, the graph hasn't been moved therefore k is 0. When g goes through -12, it has been moved 7 units up as in its original position, it goes through -19. So k(the movement of the graph of g) is between 0 and 7

    Mistake in your solution to 7.4.
    The correct solution should be 0 ≤ k < 7.
    If k = 0 and f(x) = g(x) + k then x^3 + 5x^2 - 8x - 12 = 5x - 19
    So that we obtain x = 1 , x = 1 and x = -7
    Hence we have TWO positive roots, as required.
