  • As the Olympic flame begins its journey to Paris and the French capital prepares to host some 15 million tourists in less than four months' time, more than 80 NGOs are denouncing a form of "social cleansing". Authorities in the French capital has been relocating people from the streets in the city centre and around the Olympic sites. These vulnerable populations include homeless people, migrants and drug addicts. FRANCE 24's Julien Sauvaget and Lauren Bain report.

This is nothing new. Whenever there's a big international event held in a country. Everyone wants to show the best image of their country. You gotta clean the house

Every city does this. Back in 1980, the LA Olympics cleared all the homeless away. It is not new.

Same everywhere during a big event by ruling parties to cover up their shortcomings.

😂😂😂😂 all you people talk because you don't live in France or paris in particular the bare truth is that there are so many social houses in France towns and provinces that are empty and can house these people but no what they want is to live in the capital and nowhere else, look at the guy who says he works and sleeps on the streets just because he doesn't want to pay for rent and amenities its high time this people realised that living in provinces is much better than living on the streets, i live in the province and life is much better, lets stop blaming the government cause all they are doing is giving these people houses to live in but they just want to be in the city

It reminds me of Harry and Megan’s wedding. The local authorities just forced homeless people into buses and confiscated their belongings until after the royal wedding was over. Then they were back into the streets with no assistance.

Just let those people be....they suffer enough! Students who have to leave their studio's/appartments so they can rent it to people who want to watch sports....and it goes on and on so sad. For me they may distribute all the money of the sports world to the poor around the world, so sports become fun again and good for health instead of business. Oh not to mention we still have high alert for terorrist attacks...
