Niu MQI GT EVO became useless with latest update!

- My Evo which I drove 3000 happy km's had the big anti stalling update on battery, FOC, ECU and motor and made my scooter pretty useless. Before there was enough power up to 30% battery: 8 kW or more, so I could drive normally between cars on my daily commute. This was the reason I bought this scooter after the test drive and watching the reviews.
After the update: 40%: 5,5 kW 30%: 4 kW 20%: 3 kW 10%: 2 kW
Meaning it can't get up to speeds anymore, acceleration is gone, it's dangerous driving between cars now, all overtaking me.
Practical range has been decreased with 24%!
Changing the specs of an EV after market introduction in a negative way...
(I know I say 50% in this clip, excuses for that)
Thank you for sharing this video! This is a very serious problem and a hinderance to me buying this. I was planning on getting this some time soon but hearing/seeing this...?! NIU, you better fix this! *QUICKLY.* Or I'll have to buy something else.

You should be able to choose your own power curve in an app! It's your scooter. You bought it. Has there been another update fixing the problem?

@@dotternetta Terrible. I'm sorry but thanks for the heads up. I was really considering the NIU. Yes, I live in NYC but there would be short jaunts on the highway too. Not anymore. I'd rather get a Vespa GTS 300.

Bless you mate, this is exactly the reason why I haven't (& refuse) to update my niu gt evo... I bought the top of the range model & paid £1000 more than the lower models as I can get 64 mph out of it so it was fun and I could over take cars on my local commute to work. If I wanted anything slower I would of chosen the extra range models. I'm sure they will have to come out with another firmware update to give you back the previous performance or at least a option, fingers crossed.
The extended range model is not available here yet. And you must take the simcard out of the ECU to prevent the update. Only the motorsoftware needs to be updated at the dealer, the BMS and FOC are updated OTA. I will return it and get my money back. Going to get a Ray7.7. I think yours is already updated to lower specs, mine did 72 mph easy
@@dotternetta no, I still get 64 mph out of mine no problems... When I do not use it for more than two days I disconnected the batterys also, spoke with my niu dealer last week & they said if I did want the new update (completely up to me of course) it would have to go to there work shop for it to be done over night, to which I'm not going to update.. You say you got 72mph easily before your update? Wow... Even my brouche said 62mph in the technical specs. Unsure how you got that speed?. Shame on how its turned out for you as I'm enjoying mine.
@Royston Evans Strange. The motor update must be done at the shop, but you top speed indicates yours already is lowered in power. Mine does 72 mph on the stand and on the road. What is your max power on the display and what batteries do you have? Mine, after the update:
60% 9kw
50% around 7kw
40% around 6kw
30% 4.6kw
20% 2.1kw
10% 1.5kw
3% 1.4kw
Disconnecting the batteries doesn't help preventing OTA updates, you also need to disconnect the 12V battery and the battery inside the ECU
@@dotternetta Why do think NIU did this? They must have known it would piss people off and make their scooters useless for many people.

@@dotternetta yes. I bye the EVO with 3,3 sek 0-50 km/h. After 1. Update 6 sek 0-50 kmh. 2. Update Vmax 120 kmh down max 110 kmh. The Rest, the same Like you.

Wow what a dissapointment from niu.Glad i bought the ngts pro one of the strongest.Before time i did rent nqi lite ride it almost a year.Small issues couple errors i must solved but all in all its a good brand. Only need to renew my niu membership but the app also not the best.
I have one and it already has 800 kilometers on it nothing to say about work house very good I can do 115 kilometers on the highway ❤
Just wait (or remove the simcard and keep it like this) I'm at 6000 km now and batteries won't charge to 100% anymore

@@pablogomes6145 It is inside the ECU, which can be easily reached by removing the headlight assembly. Loosen 2 skrews above the front fender and push up the light. When you remove the sim you also remove the app communication

Hoi, nee. Kon niks geschikts vinden. Ben zelfs naar Spanje geweest om de Ray7.7 te rijden, geweldig maar helaas niet te importeren. Horwin EK3 qua specs intressant maar dealers niet echt. Horwin CR6 pro is ook leuk, maar maar 4 kWh accu. Ik heb een 10 jaar oude Fiat 500e gekocht, rij nu nog goedkoper dan op de scooter

@@DeezNuts-zv6mj Jawel, de Ray7.7. Ik zou niet meer terug willen naar 16,5 Nm, de Aprilia lijkt me slaapverwekkend traag. Jammer dat er (nog) geen hybride scooters zijn, best of both worlds. Niu is er mee bezig maar die zie ik voorlopig nog niet op de markt komen na hun Evo fiasco

Ik heb ook een Evo met nu 1000km, ben al 4x bij de dealer geweest voor updates. Gisteren weer opgehaald na een update en het is versie 54 nu. Nog niet veel gereden maar na deze video ga ik proberen hoe het is
Tot 50% is alles als vanouds echter daarna stort het vermogen in. Voorheen kon ik gemakkelijk 32 km rijden met 90 km/h, tot 30% accu 8 kW vermogen, die lijn is nu verschoven naar 50%, daar begint de ellende. Hoe lang heb je hem al en heb je al eens tot 30% gereden voorheen?
@@dotternetta ik heb hem sinds Augustus, ik had het probleem dat onder de 30% hij enorm leeg liep, normaal rij ik ongeveer 1% per km en doe ik dus 5% naar werk wat 5 km is. Onder de 30% was ik 18% kwijt voor 5km. Dit moet nu opgelost zijn met de update zeggen ze. Ik ga het aankomende week testen. Ook zie ik de temperatuur alleen maar op 0 graden staan en kan ik het thema ‘shadow’ niet gebruiken want dan blijft het scherm zwart
@@Surfmonta Oke, ik heb hem sinds Juli, inmiddels 3500 km mee gereden, kapotte ECU gehad (afstandsbediening werkte niet meer) en nu een defecte remschakelaar. Alles vervang ik zelf, mijn dealer stuurt het op. Na de grote motorupdate is het een drama geworden, ik rij eke dag 2x 32 km en dat ging altijd super, maar ik kan er nu niets mee mee, laatst met een storm het laatste stuk 60 gereden op de 80 km weg, tussen de inhalende auto's, levensgevaarlijk. Temperatuur 0 heb ik ook, de 3 schermen werken wel goed. Wat staat er nu bij jou op versie 54?

The one that they do worldwide to prevent overheating. All Evo will get the update, new ones are sold with it. If the topspeed is 108 km/h you have it. Power goes down rapidly if you get to 50% battery, before is was 30% when it lost good power.

After an official complaint letter they offered me to return it and I got refunded

Is is tuned down now, effective range is 25% less than before. Useless for me and luckily I could return it.. I hear from a friend who still drives one it's still full of strange unsolvable errors, his been in shop 5 weeks now, and he temporarily drives my old one now, as service fron the importer lol. He bought his after the big update and cannot return it

Ik ben van plan deze te bestellen, is dit probleem al opgelost? Helaas nergens een dealer hier waar ik een proefrit kan doen. Ik moet er dagelijks 55km mee kunnen rijden, ook 80km wegen.
Niet doen! Probleem wordt niet opgelost! 30 km max @ 85 km/h
@@dotternetta Wel heel erg zuur dit!! :( , las wel ergens dat er ook een long range versie van is met 2 x 35 Ah batterijen. wellicht kan jij die batterijen erin kan doen? En die update, die moet toch wel terug te draaien zijn?
Ik twijfel zelf nu ook met deze mqi gt evo of de vespa gts300.
De updates willen ze niet terug draaien. Accu's worden te zwaar belast, dus zullen binnen de garantie moeten worden vervangen, vandaar de updates. De eerste serie was nog sneller, 2,5 sec naar 50 km/h, nu 6 sec. Dealer en importeur hebben het geprobeerd maar de Chinezen doen het niet. Ik kan de aankoop ontbinden en probeer nu een Ray7.7 te importeren, die komen trouwens volgend jaar naar NL. Die is perfect! Mijn dealer is WvM-mobility, die heeft nog een demo Evo staan, een geupdate versie. De long range accu's zie ik voorlopig ook niet komen, daarnaast is het ontwerp niet goed, gaat schudden als je het stuur los laat. Silence S01+ is ook interessant en verkrijgbaar in Nederland, via WvM-mobility of Deboscooters

De Ray lijkt perfect, 7,7 kWh, 15 kW piek. Om 90 te rijden heb je 6 tot 9 kW nodig, afhankelijk van de wind. Ik heb ze gemaild en een half uur lang 90 rijden moet geen probleem zijn. Silence raadt het af ivm oververhitting, Silence gebruikt 51 V wat erg laag is in scooterland voor het vermogen wat ze claimen (dikke kabels). De Ray draait op 91 V. Reviews lijken erg goed en ze beloven de specs niet te veranderen zoals Niu heeft gedaan. Ik schat in bij 90 km/h = 70 Wh/km een bereik van 80 km, de laatste 20% is noodloop. Nu nog een importeur zien te vinden. Heb je al eens electrisch gereden?
Is it still like this?. They put it on a massive discount and I only need to do 75km/h as a absolute maximum.
As I understand from others it is pretty ok now, not for me, but for some good enough. But make a testdrive! It is reallly mechanical unstable
@@dotternetta I'm unsure if there are any electric dealerships near me. I'm in the UK electric vehicles apart from bicycles haven't really taken off yet. This niu on paper ticks all the boxes for me and has more speed than I'd ever need to do. But they keep messing with the firmware which slightly worries me.
@@JudeTheCZcamsPoopersubscribe I don't know your financial situation but the firmware should be stable now, after the motorupdate it's tuned down and driving fine, only not for me. The frame is still unstable, meaning it starts wiggling when you let go of the steering
@@dotternetta furthest I'll ever need to ride is 35km. My work is only a 20km round trip. I can afford this brand new easily enough.
@@JudeTheCZcamsPoopersubscribe 35 km @ 75 km/h constantly is...on the edge. In high winds you won't make that speed all the way. But the wind probably doesn't turn 180 degrees in 1 day so you'll probably be fine. If you can charge at works you'll be fine.
