      the individual components are less than 2 (usd) each for the motor, etc. and if you got a 3d printer already you can make it even cheaper since they're going for 30+ (usd) on major markets (the amount of work needed for that would be wild though)

    Ppl ask me why I Love Tamiya and Japanese products in general so much and this is why, the unboxing experience is always second to none and they know their customers. I mean how many other model company's are going to send you a working Model Kit of the periphery that you bought, so you can customize as you want. 😙👌

    The fact you have to assemble it is Amazing. I should get one just to support this great idea.
    I would have used a tiny bit of lithium grease on those gears though, wonder how much nicer it would sound.

    Bought mine about 10 years ago. It’s Grey col, was also surprised when opening to find in kit form.

      I have both. The grey one is a router. It has different gearing compared to the drill.

    That's great. Love the fact it is a kit as well as a tool. I use Pin vices all the time when fixing toys, but they are getting harder to use as my hands are not what they once were. Thanks for the heads up!

    TIP, keep the old tiny drill bits and actually use them as pins for models as they obviously fit in the holes perfectly. And with his often they break you should have endless supplies 😊

      I use 1mm florist wire. I have found that drill bits are almost impossible to trim to size and are actually more likely to break (might just be the ones I use). Then they are almost impossible to dig back out the holes.

    I've often seen people use these to drill the pilot holes for the windows on Star Trek ship models, though some people make theirs corded, since those models can have several hundred windows on some of the later Enterprises.

    Some solder or at least dielectric grease on those motor terminals would be good. It's easy to lose power to dirt or corrosion there.

    I got a electronic pin vice that charged off my computer. had it for three months it was weak and junk . This looks like a better option. thank you for sharing.

      That seemed like a common theme for the little USB drills. This goes relatively slow but more than enough torque for any model I've needed it for.

      Its the torque you need and like you said in your video the dremel is too fast . I thought about using my knock off dremel but it is too heavy and fast it didn't come with any drill bit collars anyway. I could just see myself putting my hole in the wrong spot or through my hand with it. This drill looks light and because you put it together yourself, you kinda know how to fix it @@ScruffyCrow

    Personally, I'm a _huge_ fan of using the *_God Hand_*_ Hexagon Quick Drill Bits_ ( there's 4 sets A, B, C, and D ranging sizes 0.5-3.0mm in 0.1mm increments ) with the *_MiniWare_*_ ES15 Motion Controlled Electric Screwdriver_ ( the direction and angle of you twisting your wrist dictates the direction and speed of the Screwing/Drilling Action ) - Perfect combo for modelling purposes.

    Would a small amount of grease on the plastic gears increase the lifespan and reduce noise even further!?

      There is some on the gears, the noise is almost entirely coming from the little motor. Life expectancy wise, I just looked it up, I bought the last on in 2016 and the only reason I'm not still using it is I managed to lose it. And I use it a lot.

    im not realy a model builder but i have wished sometimes for a easy tool to do a tiny job then a dremel or a normal dril so i might consider getting this. never expected a model dril but its worth considering.

    I had a better micro drill back in the day that came with an expensive model kit with over 1000 fiber optic cables. It was lile one of those hand twist drills, but it was motorized. I lost it and have never been able to find another one.

    Nice!! Great review! Just bought one off Amazon... It looks like the chuck/collets that came with it run very true. Not like that with the small pencil drill I purchased off Amazon a few months ago.
    What's the minimum and maximum drill size you can use in it? Also... Would you mind sharing some info on the chuck upgrade you made to your first Handy Drill? Thanks!

      Yeah, they all got greased with the supplied grease but must have missed that bit. The last one never had an issue other than I lost it.

    You could use Tamiya Mini4WD parts to customise the drill. Go for torque, speed, or use a FORBIDDEN Plasma-Dash motor🤣

    I prefer the wowstick personally (its high speed low torque and usb powered). But this might be a great cheaper alternative

      Yeah, used up the rest of the supplied grease on all the gears and anywhere else that was going to move.

      I must have missed it out but the rest of the supplied grease went in the gears and any other moving parts that would have friction.

      Afraid not, if it gets stuck I just push the lock and twist it out by hand, I wonder how hard it would be to add a reverse switch.

    Let me give you a little advice. Never put your fingers in harms way when using any drill, no matter how small as you did at 7:55. All it takes is one wandering bit and it will be straight into your finger before you can blink an eye. Don't ask me how I know this...

      I use it on white metal all the time, no problems with slate chippings either when I want to pin models to them too.

      I'm sure it's just fine for people using it for model building. If you're looking for something to use on home projects, buy a Makita, Dewalt or other contractor's sized drill.

      To be fair if you ordered it from Japan it would be under $20, the shipping would kill the saving but if you were ordering other models at the same time that's not so bad.
