I left my job at the beginning of the year and instantly felt relief. Even though I’m leaning on a small amount of freelance income and tapping into my savings, I’ve had time to slow down and figure out what makes me happy. I was not happy at my old job. When I left, I regained my confidence AND sanity and feel excited for what’s next.

It's digital fatigue actually, two days ago CZcams sent me an email that they will demonetize my channel because drop in watched hours. I could care less.
Working with your hands or in nature is real digital detox and a way to balanced life. To balance work in IT which is abstract I do my own house renovations, walls, floors, even concrete work. It's therapeutic indeed!

I remember having first time burnout. I have been feeling well phyisicaly, but mentally struggled with focus on some projects, even if they were small and quick to get it done. At first couldn't figure it why it happens, then later on visiting psychologist helped me out to get over this. Later on I have changed the company and things went way better. But now I have another kind if I can call it, struggle, and that is I can't see myself doing this job in the future. Like I don't see myself in IT anymore. Another thing is I live in a country where I can't have many opportunities to jump into other fields. So I don't know. Right now, I'll stick to design, mainly because I still enjoy it and love it, and getting paid well. Hopefully eventually will figure out something later on down the line.

I'd been working at the company for almost 6 years and experienced the same feelings you described. But along with comparing myself to other designers, I started to think that design is not what I want to continue to do. I actually started even to hate this job.
For a year or so, I've understood it is definitely burnout, and I also tried to find a way to fix the situation without quitting the company (which I loved a lot). And all happened by itself - in October, the company stopped any software and design development, which means they let me go unexpectedly.
Now I am still without a new job because I have not tried to get any yet. I decided I had to get this opportunity for a more extended period to recharge and clear up my relationship with design.
Thanks for sharing such personal moments. It is good to know I am not alone in this, nor are you.

I'm guilty for this too... comparing myself to full-time creators. Also, content creation demands more than we realise, it takes our whole brain capacity even when we're not actively creating. It's more than a "side" hustle, it can feel like a trap sometimes. Hope that taking a break helped you find your true self again. The optimistic one! ;)

I’m so pleased to see you! I actually think people posting less will have a positive impact on culture. People sees everyone hustling so everyone feels like they need to hustle too. It’s refreshing seeing someone work through burnout out and come out the other end smiling and in balance! Can’t wait to see what you do this year. Post for you and not for us! ❤

Hey Charil, it's great to see you back! Burnout is not fun and it takes a lot to recognise those feelings and prioritise yourself and your health. The hardest part is accepting you're experiencing burnout only then can you make the right decisions for yourself and how to get out of it. I'm so glad you didn't feel the need to leave your job, I've personally done this in the past and left a job. because I experienced burnout.
Taking a break from your personal projects seemed like the right decision for you, and I'm glad you're feeling better. I'm excited to see what content you bring this year, I rewatch your co-working streams a lot during my day-to-day because it helps me complete my own working tasks as I work from home full time. Having someone to work beside really does keep me motivated. Super excited to see what you're going to be doing this year and looking forward to seeing your content whenever you feel like you want to post! 💛

Hi! Was excited to see a video. In regards to comparing yourself to other creators, I just wanted to say that I really like that you are a “normal” working design working for a company that has demands and problems that a lot of us face. Sometimes when creators become so successful that their content becomes about creating content… not about the thing we initially followed them for (if that makes sense?). I always relate to things like “I started a design system 3 months ago… and it’s not finish” cause that’s the real world! Anyway tl;dr happy you’re back and would happily watch your 1 video a month.

    Long time sub here..
Thank you for making this video.
As a self taught developer for 8 years that had to repeat college and haven't been to the market in a while. I definitely understand appreciating having a job.
And my self value is basically my work only.
I can't help but to relate to every word you said. Feeling stupider and uncreative for months. And being secretly ashamed of my level at my job.
I truly don't know what to do. So I took a couple of weeks off and played video games.
Eventually the rush and the daily guilt fades. And when you get back it's not smooth sailing or the same level before the burnout.
It's just a complicated problem that has so many variables to fix. Starting with health.
I still struggle, but you saying being selective and asking yourself or your boss for the resources you need is definitely an eye opener.
    Thanks.

Thanks for talking about this. I have been through this twice now and both times I had to quit and find a new job cause I couldn't do it any more... I felt burnout for almost a full year after a particularly intense round of projects. I felt the same, that everything I read was about looking for another job, but that wasn't realistic at the time for me. In the same way you talked about comparing yourself to other creators, I did the same with your channel and thought "how does she work full time and also do this channel? I barely want to even be on my computer after work sometimes"
Honestly the job had sucked the joy of design out of me and it took much longer than I expected to find it again, and a huge part of that was spending more time with projects I cared about (thanks to a good manager who listened) and, just like you did, finding hobbies outside of work that were creative in a different way and actually having fun again.

And whilst I love the financial annual reports, perhaps the very nature of collating them (whether you choose to post them publicly or not) is pushing you into the mindset thst you must make more Vs previous years? You say you lost 8k this year, but what of the value gained from peace and sanity? I would argue those are more valuable than the money.
