    I do like the new system but I do feel the cost of going to events is a disadvantage, I think if they changed the BFL on regionals and internationals to be separate and limit the BFL even more, it would make the system be more about placement rather than being able to go to more events, personally i think one IC and 3 regionals should be the BFL's.

    I would say you still are competing against those players that go to all 3 IC’s. Yes there are still spots available, but still those players and taking up around 60 or so of the spots. Now there is about half the spots available to everyone else just because they can’t afford to travel to all 3 IC’s. Imo, that’s really unfair to those who want to chase an invite, but don’t have the time or money to travel to all the IC’s.
    Also this Top X invite system just feels toxic to me. You can’t cheer on your peers and friends in events because their success means you are pushed down in the rankings. That to me feels like the end of next season is going to look pretty ugly fighting for those final spots.
    Those main reasons are why I think the new invite structure is a terrible idea. It’s fine if they want to make Worlds harder. Imo, I think Worlds should have stayed at 600 points or maybe even gotten a bit easier, but regardless of my views, if TPCI wants to make Worlds harder they should have done what Azul said: Make the point threshold higher.

    This is just speculation on my part but I feel Gabe's ban has more to do with his comments made after his DQ and I believe the specific odd length of 3 months is specifically due to him being a Senior and they tend to give lesser sentences on younger players. Also I don't know his age, but is he aging up next year? That would put him in a different age division?

    Could an argument with the Top X getting invites be made for an increase in events and locations? Like the closest regional to our group is like 4+ hours away then after that it's flights away. If they had regionals that were in many of the major cities, more opportunities to compete would be available.

    Of the 13 major tournaments (regional/IC) in the NA circuit for this season, 5 were over the 2049 player count: NAIC, Los Angeles, Indianapolis, Orlando, and Charlotte. Only 1 West Coast tournament was above the 2049 player count.
    I expect the majority of them to still be under 2k. Sacramento, Portland, and Vancouver were all under 1500 masters (with Vancouver being under 1k) for TCG.
    The changes will definitely have an impact on player count, and I don't see them increasing for these tournaments; rather, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw these drop in the number of competitors year-over-year once they happen for the 2024-25 circuit. Who knows, though.

    Gabe's defense of saying he didn't cheat because he was accused of stacking a useless card on top of his deck is a little disingenuous. Putting a useless card on top of your deck knowing your opponent is going to cut is absolutely still cheating. That said, that in itself isn't enough to warrant a ban. There's absolutely more to the story here.
    It also absolutely puts into questions any and all of his accomplishments. If he's willing to try something subtle like this when he knows he's being watched, who's to say he wouldn't try something more blatant when he knows he can get away with it.

    What bothers me is that being good at Pokemon isn't good enough anymore because you also need thousands of dollars, or a sponsorship, to get to enough events to make worlds. There are plenty of players who can afford to go to half of the regional events that simply wont make worlds because of money. Pokemon doesn't pay enough to make that worthwhile (for a vast majority). I don't see this decision (along with the locals BFL lowering) playing well for the game long-term.

    • @boxkid759
      @boxkid759 Před 21 dnem +3

      What do you mean being good enough isnt enough? If you're good enough you can win a regional and literally not go to another event the whole season.

    • @trevormaine
      @trevormaine Před 21 dnem +1

      My response to this argument: when was this not the case?
      To get to Worlds, you’ve ALWAYS had to attend multiple Regionals or ICs in the modern era.
      I think that’s a reasonable expectation for invitation to a World Championship.

    • @kylemadison1296
      @kylemadison1296 Před 21 dnem

      As others have said, this simply just isn't true. Being good enough is, quite frankly, enough. Win a regional or top 4 an IC and you are a world's competitor. Of course, I would prefer if every single person that wanted to attend every single event could do so, but that isn't true for anything in life. Little Timmy is better than Little Jimmy at throwing a football because Timmy's dad could hire someone to give his son 1 on 1 coaching, and Little Jimmy's parents couldn't afford to do anything but recreational football. Some people can go on vacation multiple times a year while others are lucky to go on one vacation in their lifetime. This isn't a TPCI problem, it is just life.

    When I used to play you could grind for a guaranteed invite, or you just do the Worlds LCQ. If you were good and could dodge some of the other sharks in the pond for a given year then you had a reasonable chance win 9-10 rounds in an LCQ to play in worlds. There was no way I was going to play a whole pokemon season and put in that much effort to qualify, but the LCQ was doable.

    I think it will be more interesting and entertaining to see those players close to the world’s bubble play. Also I think TPCI should keep the prizing at top 32, some of the community I think feels entitled to get something because they travel to events and spend money. Enjoy the fact that you can go to the events and do the best you can and aim for the winning the event.

    Azul I do wish you would stop discouraging people from going to locals. A huge part of the player base forms every one of their opinions on Pokémon based on what you say, like pile shuffling everyone did it then you said something now it's taboo. I'm sure there are a ton of players that don't go to locals cause you basically say they aren't cool and they're pointless. I know that's not what you think but that is what your projecting when you talk about them. Disagree about the Noah cheating situation. At face value it looks like he cheated cause the card reappeared in the exact same spot after shuffle and shuffle seemed weak. It takes closer analyzing and looking at shuffle in slow mow to try and make an argument he wasn’t cheating since top cards got replaced. He cheated cause card was marked and it was marked cause of how crazy he bent that card and knew the feeling of the card when he shuffled. The way people are analyzing the shuffle is wrong, it doesn’t matter that the top cards got shuffled and that it was sufficient to randomize cause the card was marked and he was able to shuffle it back to the top.

    Over the years I’m beginning to notice there are some players who are essentially mouth pieces of tpci and always try to put a positive spin on what the tpci changes are.
