A friend studying Literae Humaniores (Classics) at Oxford that there is a page of Sappho which has only one decipherable letter and it is recorded as a tau with an asterisk to a footnote that says may be pi.
I agree, wonderful. Of course then I thought about all of the other books that have only survived by the copiest favors....like the Bible ? Now, will I be cursed by Satan or forced to eat apples? Lee K.

These are so great. When this series is finished it will be one of the best crash courses on the western canon, and easily the most entertaining!
But WILL it ever finish? Penguin Classics keeps publishing new editions, after all ...
