    Companion 5 better than companion 3 series II?

  • @TheComputerGuyFresno

    You need to remove the black T8 screws from the back then using a heat gun or better yet a blow dryer and some patience with a blade or guitar pic etc to remove the black sticker surrounding all the ports. There are 5 hidden phillips screws under that sticker needed to remove the back.

      Trying to open the back of the woofer box, first I removed the five visible Torx 8 screws. But the back cover showed no sign of getting detached. I carefully looked for other screws and there didn't seem to be any. Thought some kind of adhesive was still holding the back cover, I forced it open only to discover 3 more screws with phillips head under the black sticker. (Model: Bose Companion 3 Series II). Later, I had to carry out some repair job on the MDF box with wood glue. Hope this information is of some use to someone.

      Paul Worrall hi Paul I believe the front just pries off but you have to evenly work it off with a flathead screwdriver or even better a strong plastic pry device that won’t bust. This could keep from damaging it.

    Specs for this sub, size and wattage? My sub just started distorting recently and I’m about to take it apart, wouldn’t mind upgrading sub/amp if possible. Also my amp gets way hot way fast and output is way lessened, I’m guessing years of use have degraded caps/etc? Anyway to upgrade this would be great as I really dig the aesthetics and don’t want to replace, rather upgrade :)

    • @Lord_Pistachio_Nut

      Still sounds better than 99.6% of all pc speaker sets on the market. And no, Bose sold the companion 3 series ii for 199 and the companion 5 series ii for 299. The price you’re quoting is PROBABLY from amazon or eBay lol. Morons think if it’s “discontinued from manufacturer” it suddenly becomes a collectors item or something ridiculous lol. I’ve owned both the Bose companion 5 (bought at Bose store in King of Prussia PA for 279 on sale) and I’ve owned the “famed” Logitech Z5500 system and to be honest the Bose system with SMALLER sub and 3 less speakers sounded far and beyond better than the Z5500 set did. The Z has a 10in sub with some ridiculous like 188w RMS (and over a thousand watt peak power for the system) yet the “conventional architecture” of the Bose was better. I’m not a fanboy, I just give credit where credit is due lol. Idk how they do it....cheap paper cones, and cheap MDF cabinets yet they sound like Kevlar cones in mahogany cabinets 🤣😂
      With that rant out of the way, if you can pick a companion 5 up for under 200 (since let’s face it, it’s old now and you shouldn’t pay retail, let alone more than retail) you won’t be disappointed!

      No, that’s a real Bose. I can tell cuz that’s definitely a Bose speaker unit on the front. That odd shaped mount, large foam surround, and thick paper cone are found in many acoustimass systems. And I don’t know what’s cheap about a large metal plate on the back with a heat sink, and a large circle shape transformer. The box may be a little thin, but that is typical newer Bose products.

    • @TheOfficialDuBsTeC
      @TheOfficialDuBsTeC Před 4 lety +2

      @@vaibhavsingh1888 its 6 inch or 15cm what ever.. it is pretty heavily playing at its capable limits - it goes down to about 30-33 Hz (-3db) depends how you place it and is "dead" at about 26-28 Hz.. which is crazy for this size.. and it really rumbles for its size though it sounds very wet and sometimes unconrolled due to this massive dsp hitting that small driver.. I prefer an 8 inch sub which goes maybe to 35-40Hz but than sounds clean and dry than having a small 6 inch going deeper but why more boomy.. wet/muddy.. uncontrolled.. sounding one. :) My Teufel Concept C 8 inch officially plays to 40Hz (-3db) on paper (Bose has NO technical specs listed) but actually hits down to 35Hz and is dead at 29-30Hz which is about 4-5Hz higher but man.. this thing sounds super clear - housing has 0 movement/vibration no rattleling just pure "bass tones" which creats at higher levels some power which the Bose cant its just a different.. sound.. dont know how to discribe it but the bass sounds cheaper/weird from bose compared its more obvious while the Teufel is still punchy and there but at the same time "hides" itself if you know what I mean. I have to give the bose at some music titles and movies it does add some richness which isnt really there like artificially adding bass which works sometimes with that wet and not so tight bass "shaking" more because the bass waves are "staying" longer due to that adding richness but less crisp bass more like one muddy solid "boom" than a crisper drier "rrt rt rrrrrt rrt" bass. :D So in the end it depends for movies its ok sometimes better on pc but music is more cleaner with a 8 inch because again the 6 inch is using so much dsp that sometimes you hear its limiting out with uncontrolled boomy rattles on higher volumes. also bose uses loudness on an extreme way.. on lower volumes the bass is super overplayed with no highs and just little mids and turning it up bass rapidly shrinks (doesnt really get louder) while mids and highs are getting louder and louder adding way more highs and less bass.
