    I hadn't realised that the operation was so true to life, and therefore the engineer had so much to keep an eye on, and adjust. I can feel the addiction from here.

      Yeah it really is just a steam loco in miniature, even down to the boiler tests ect.
      Its a lot of fun to operate as it keeps your brain active!

    I built my first locomotive age 13 in 1953. Since then I have built 6 more in various gauges, 3.5, 5 and 7.25in all live steam.

    Hi Eric, thanks for sharing I can see why my late father was into making and machining and building steam trains (I think it was 5inch) and steam traction engines. Enjoyed the drivers view, thanks keep them coming..

    I fire on the bluebell and love Compton’s growing up with Hither Green depot at the end of our road and later being second man/ trainman on various 33s at Brighton and driven a few. But I’ve driven swordfish on the bluebell and it’s boring. Nothing to do. A steam loco is alive andtests you all the time, to make it do what you want you got to be good. Enjoy your 94

    I built three 5” gauge maxitrak steam loco’s between the ages of 8 & 14 with my dad. My late father also used to run Maxitrak as a director along with the owner Andy and they sacked him and took his retirement money, this ultimately caused his death at the age of 59 due to stress. He had a massive stroke one day as he couldn’t cope. I blame them until the day I die. I have the loco’s in my man cave in his memory.

    ‘Green isn’t really my thing’ 🤣 Love it! I think regardless of prototype scale coarse or fine scale, the key is to have a sense of integrity in what you’re hoping to achieve. What he parameters are is down to personal taste, but I believe I t’s key to that secret ingredient- atmosphere…

    Hi Eric, I bought a Kingscale Black5 and i love it, i,v sorted a few minor things and made some improvements, ie- Cab Windows and Doors, also Handrails on the Tender, I'm currently weathering it down and letting it get really dirty, I remember engines in this state and they do look more authentic, (my opinion), I dont have a track but do have a rolling road in my shed with a Loco shed type chimney that gets all the smoke away as i burn House Coal, smells great, enjoy the hobby.

      @@UndergroundEric No not at the moment, I'm located west coast scotland and things are a bit thin on the ground, I may have to load the loco when i go touring down back to england in the hope of finding somewhere to run.

      Imported internationally, weren't detailed but they were designed to run forever and be able to be built by anyone.

      @@UndergroundEric mine are converted to battery and R/c, though i am now changing to Bluerail ie: Bluetooth but functions need DCC to get it to match R/c. Love from South Australia

    I don't know if you know but Trog has also succumbed to both 5 &7 inch steam. I thought the Leader and I had brought you both up dedicated to the world of oil sloshing, ah well!!!!

    How much weight is in the loco so there's traction? Surely a bloke and take of coaches is quite a lot to haul? Are there roller bearings in the wagon you sit on?

      @@UndergroundEric anytime mate, it really does make the day flyby as you say, so much more involved with the engine. This was the problem I had with Druid, I would get bored. I did enjoy shunting last weekend with Jenna's little 08. Still want a 14 so I can do the same to one of them as the 08.

    I have a 7.25" gauge london metropolitan metrovick which will pull passengers and beg for more, but it's not as fun as nursing a steam loco and struggling to make gradients.

      Unlikely. Model engineers are required to build to safe regulations and are tested. Despite this, the HSE still took fright and I was on the committee that worked with the HSE to resolve the issues.

    At 5:02, is the axle pump just there to make things easier instead of using the manual water pump, or do you have to use the axle pump?

      Yeah pretty much just a nice to have, as most engines have an injector, however mine doesnt still as havent got round to fitting one.

    I am amazed that some of those smaller locos can pull a human along and not just sit there spinning their wheels, any idea of the weight of your Panier tank?

      It is pretty impressive the weight they can haul, not sure exactly but obviously with the tanks full its a chunky little thing, if you have a slightly damp rail ect it will slip quite easily

      @@globalgumboots oh!! Great spot i didnt see that HAHA. Yes ollies riding truck was pulling the back of the engine downwards due to the height of the coupling, aswell as the rear springs on the loco being weak.
      Changed them out and was fine after, didnt realise id caught it on video!
