  • Project: Making nice, completely unknown pieces more known.
Fifth piece from the suite "Cerdana".
It starts very fast and rhythmical with some screams of the mules in the melody. A lamenting "Marcato poco il canto" Theme follows, which gives rise a repetition of the main theme. After a short transition segment, a new theme is introduced. Severac wants "changer la sonorité", so a new mood is set, which is also achieved by going from E flat minor to far away B minor. It sounds a bit like spanish folklore. Then we have a quite impressionistic part, which can also be seen by the note "Réminiscence....".
After playing the main theme in Minor Dominant (B minor), we hear a theme after a chromatic rise, which bears similarities to music of Yann Tiersen or so. I put the photo of Severac in his room there, because the sheet kind of distracted the impact. After all, it repeats a little bit later, and there I included the sheet music, so you will see the notes. This "french romantic" part again sharply contrasts with the "spanish folklore", which is followed by the impressionistic part. After some rearrangement of known themes, the piece concludes in E flat minor.
Played on my really bad keyboard (almost no velocity!).
So... yeah, I just want to make these pieces and artists more known. Go and play in your concerts! :)

To my amazement, so few people have known to this gorgeous piece of music.

A tour de force, especially given the limitations of your keyboard.

This piece is really good, the main theme is original and this “french” part in the middle is unexpected, what a nice discovery ! And your rendition is very good btw. If you are looking for new unknown/unplayed pieces (but I’m pretty sure you have tons of sheets already), you could take a look at “3 mélodies élégiaques” from Zhilyayev on imslp.

@deodatdechampignac because it was written Zhilyayev in the file and everywhere on the web...

@@riselka7041 It is badly written in ISLMP only ; and even not everywhere in ISLMP ! The name of the composer is : Nikolay Sergeyevich Zhilayev (English style) or Nicolaï Segueïevitch Zhilaïev (Latin style)
