We all knew..they can not go past Quarter finals.. perhaps it was planned to play them without a rest day. Srikanth should retire.. We expect two medals? I feel we will be lucky if any of our players can reach or go past Quarter final in Olympics. Biggest worry is for future we have absolutely no majestic player, except Lakshya and Anmol and Satchi pair. The old duos -Srikanth and Pronoy might play couple of years with possible upsetting few players..but not really going to achieve something outstanding..Thanks to Siddhu for proving all these wrong so far. But Siddhu is very slow (age is catching up and we can not expect more from her) now, compared to other upcoming players across the world. Those girls team there have had lots of experience in the past couple of years, playing all major tournaments, but with an exception of one out of 12-14 tournaments, none of them were able to go past round of 32 in any major tournament. Again, Siddhu was an exception there..but what about others ? Winning Asian championship is nothing compared to Thomas and Uber cup.
Other countries are producing lots of new players in last couple of years, compared to India and they are bringing results upsetting our players with ease
Root cause - these players need to be mentally and physically stronger..and we need lots of attention to bring players from grass root level..
It is very disappointing to see that just like Hockey, Badminton and Table tennis, our standard has gone down considerably and we do not have much to offer for future.
Certainly this does not come in a day or month or a year. It requires lots of meticulous planning, effort and sponsorships..to bring glory in at least one of these three games.
