- Welcoming back an early TYSO guest… SNL’s Taran Killam!
This one starts out rocky as Rick is shaken by a myriad of technical difficulties early on. Taran is the consummate performer and remains unshaken. This starts a conversation about Rick's inability to let go of things that bother him.
Taran discusses his own process and his marriage to Cobie Smulders in the public eye.
They manage to cover some career highlights including Taran becoming a voice on The Simpsons, being cast in 12 Years A Slave, writing his very own Spiderman Western Comic, and reflecting on his live performing days at SNL.
Rick searches for some common ground whilst grappling with how the episode is going and introduces Taran to TYSO’s Goblin who makes a memorable mark (literally).
Definitely a complex episode for our host.

That intro hits hard. I don't interact with a lot of people because i'm always over thinking what they think of me or i'm going to look like a dork in front of them or say something wrong. It's refreshing to see someone with the same problem but also be so outgoing and open about it and come off as a really likeable guy. Even writing this long pointless youtube comment im thinking I shouldn't because maybe i'm way off point. TL:DR Ricks a cool guy

I had a small typo in a follow up email to a job I really want and ever since I discovered it this evening it's been eating me alive. This pod just helped me calm my nerves a lot and made me realize one typo isn't going to diminish my chances. I think Taran makes Rick nervous. Taran is so calm and chill. If Esther was the guest, he would be calling her ugly, telling her all of it was her fault, and cracking jokes on jokes lol.
I love that Rick's always honest. That's what makes this podcast so good!
I don't have autism, but I do have ADHD. One of the ways it manifests itself for my is by extreme impatience when things aren't going so well, a snap, followed by me unable to move on from that feeling of shame/anger for the rest of the day. As a bopper, I feel it heavy. Love ya Rick!

I love the idea of Rick saying "we're about 25 minutes in," and then editing specifically to make that prediction correct. It's those little victories that get people through their day. That and a sexy poster of female Batman villains.

To be fair Taran is low energy. Really loved this awkward episode.

Rick, this podcast has helped me see things about myself that Ive never noticed. I relate to your realness and goofiness. Ive always thought I was weird for tearing up at the smallest emotional thing, so im glad to see someone else with that. Love the podcast man, youre killing it.

Rick put Taran in this Psychologist/Therapist role felt like. Taran didn't seem very enthused with it.
Exactly. I think Taran came to have a silly goofy time and majority of the podcast Rick waa forcing him to have a therapy session. I love Rick and his transparency, but he tends to over share. Being mid-podcast and venting about how you feel over and over is kind of annoying and not what we tuned in for.

For whatever its worth... I listened to this on my lunch break today. I loved it as much as all the episodes. Came home and cooked dinner to the Taran Killam 1.0 and I have to say.....there are some honest and humanistic comparisons. Ricky needs to embrace the "awkward"setup and go-fourth with this lovely Podcast/stream/videocast. Dont be so apologetic for who you are...thats why we love you.

We already know Rick is the hardest working man in the pod game. Cut yourself some slack big buddy. Also most successful podcaster can’t dunk. Ask Tom segura. Check out HUM X for eliminating 60 cycle low hum noise and interference. I’m assuming you’re using Mogami mic cables, but if not the more shielding the better with XLR so try em out. Hope that helps.

was the buzzing audible in the recording itself? I remember someone some guest? many podcasts ago saying that the buzzing wouldn't be in the recording itself because this happened at least one other time

I could hear it but I only really heard it when they mentioned it. Once I was listening to the conversation I forgot about completely since it's quite enough that it might as well be background day to day noise.
It was like having noise cancelling headphones on with nothing playing while you're in your room with nothing playing out loud and turning on and off the noise cancelling function. Comparing one to the other was very noticeable but once you're listening to music or whatever it makes no difference.

Hey Rick, as a VFX professional you really don't need 4K. Marvel films are still worked on at 2K and I doubt you're dealing with totally uncompressed footage at any rate. Reducing the res will speed up the edit/the transfer of data to the animator and there will be no discernible loss of quality.

You're so honest with your emotions Rick. I can't imagine many people being able to ask "have you ever been on SNL and not wanted to do it?" to someone in relation to doing a project with them. I respect how you approach your role in everything. You always want to know what is needed of you in any interaction. I can relate to that heavily. From my perspective, this helps me with knowing how to talk to people I idolize when I'm not so personally connected to them. I can tell that Rick and Taran don't have as much a connection as past guests on the podcast, however there are several moments in this podcast where one can understand how to talk to someone they respect who they have never had a one-on-one with. I am very thankful for your podcast Rick.
looking back, this is great because it promoted a lot of how he responded to your questions because he had seen the show before

Taran would not agree with me when I say this but the fact that he disagrees with you a lot means he is comfortable with you enough to disagree with you but he would most likely disagree with me about this but I am still pretty sure he still likes you anyway.
This podcast always makes me think about life in its own unique way
Hey Rick, if I may, here's my two cents.....Always try to find a way to take a step back to look at yourself from an outside point of view. Try to look at the problem you are having rationally whenever you can't get yourself to come back out of your head and remind yourself how lucky you are that these are the biggest problems or obstacles you have to over come in your well off super successful problem free life. Then if you can, remind yourself how many people in this world have real problems and obstacles they must overcome that determines weather or not they get to eat that day. Maybe If you can take a second when your in the moment to see how tiny, (as well as self induced), your problems really are, then it might be easier to let yourself snap out of it and move on.

I loved the pod, but I felt like Taran was a little dry in moments where Rick was really trying to talk himself down. There was a lot of one word answers that woulda only exacerbated my insecurity as well.
