I researched this topic much; however, the contents may be subjective and reflect my opinion. I used several references to write the script, including:

Also, the video footage may not be accurate as I tried to find footage that supports the narrative....

I know it sounds bad but I was relieved when Tilikum passed because finally he wouldn’t be stuck in a concrete pool and forced to be the grand finale of a show profiting off of the mistreatment of animals.

The video of Tilikum's abduction is terribly sad. His family would not leave him even after being on the boat. He cried out for his mother, and his family cried for him. He was barely a toddler. Orcas mature about the same as humans. Females and even some males will never leave their mothers side.

I still don’t understand how the concept of sea world was created without considering the effects of close quarters captivity.. if I wanted to make a safe haven for performing marine life, I would consider mimicking what would actually accommodate the animal. I just don’t see how you throw orcas in to dolphin tanks and think they’ll be good. They dive deep and swim far daily. Of course the animal will eventually react in violence. The years of frustration and abuse. They would drug up the orcas big time too. Wild wild concept. Unless you can mimic actual habitat then I’d say leave them be.

Do a little research on the deaths of almost all of SeaWorld's l9st orcas. You'll find a HUGE % is blamed on pneumonia. This is caused by the water, chlorine, other chemicals, no shade, malnutrition, dehydration and stuffed with ridiculous medications. His death could have been avoided in the 70s by leaving him alone. Instead, like circus animals, they're slaved and exploited for $$$

It's big problem for many wild species in captivity. Lung infection is big problem for any pray bird due to lack of movement and lungs ventilation. Keeping owls hawks, etc. in house/flat instead of aviary is nice way to make them sick all the time. I guess it's not different for such large sea creatures.

There are many reasons. Killer Whale males stay with their mothers most of their lives. The female will part earlier and are independant at a younger age. Killer Whales are hunters. They are an Apex predator in the wild and because they travel in pods, they are usually successful at hunting. They love hunting When he was put in with the females they had been independent for longer, were more aggressive and rejected him. Im sure he would do his best to fight them off or avoid them but in closed quarters there is nowhere really to go. SeaWorld should have done more to protect him. His abuse caused him to take out his aggressions on the people he could, his trainers.

Poor Tilikum was so large and he was kept in the tiniest pools for too long time. Just seeing his curled fin is breaking my heart. It's even more heart wrenching to watch dolphins and whales in Captivity being so desperate to beg for the bad food, small pieces of frozen fish. I know that cetaceans like to show off for humans even in the wild but they for sure do not enjoy being kept in sterile concrete boxes and chlorinated water. I've promised to never visit a dolphin prison when being a kid and I didn't only keep the promise but want people to understand that it's nothing but cruelty to put dolphins and whales into the Puddles Of Shame! There are a lot of great books which reveal the truth about cetacean captivity and things going on behind closed doors! Check out these exposés, they are easy to find.

Battered, bruised and bitten by other orcas, kept in a small tank that he could barely move in I'm not surprised he was aggressive, perhaps trainers spend a couple of days living as he was and see how they get along. His dying was probably a release for him and an end of his awful treatment through out his life. No aquatic life should be kept like this, at the end of the day they are still wild animals and should be treated with the respect they deserve. RIP Tilikum

Aww God bless Tilikum, he was so ill treated , he didn't attack because he was bad, he attacked out of frustration. Stop capturing these beautiful creatures, so you can make them perform and you ( whoever you are) can make money 😰😰😰

Wow! This is so so sad! I truly understand this poor, poor animal’s pain. He was tortured and abused and mistreated and suffered badly. It’s a shame that terrible, stupid, dumb, greedy humans will do anything for money! It was absolutely ludicrous to continue to have him perform with trainers and in shows after 3 and 4 people had been killed! Especially when they knew that the female Orcas were attacking him AND that his Dorsel fin was damaged. They clearly did not care and were greedy.
Americans are so greedy and selfish to start with because it’s cruel to even have/make animals perform for you or entertain you. That’s not what they’re here for. It’s clearly the management of these institutions fault that these people were killed and I’m sorry to say but it’s their fault as well for being careless, naive, unfeeling and/or not thinking that it was wrong to exploit and manipulate these poor animals this way. - May they all RIP, especially the Whale.

Yes, I agree that tearing Tilikum away from his family at two yrs old started his resentment toward humans. And yes, putting him with whales from different pods just to be abused exacerbated his frustration and anger which commands given by humans, being kept in a man made pool and not being allowed to feed for himself heightened his pent up anger for humans. Then using him as a sexual tool to further sea worlds population by the most unnatural method for an animal to reproduce caused his hate for humans to explode. Animals know what is normal and not normal instinctively and having him roll over so humans could sexually stimulate him in order for them to extract their prize sperm was a horrible blow to Tilikum. I’m surprised he held out as long as he did. Everything negative that happened to Tilikum in his life was caused by humans. Why wouldn’t he hate them? I feel the same about these people out on the ocean in kayaks or paddle boards who think it’s wonderful to interact with killer whales or the ones in boats even just touching whales as they become more tolerant to boats full of humans reaching over the sides to get a stroke so they can say what a magnificent experience they had by touching a whale. For the whale it is not a magnificent experience. It’s not normal or natural. When did it become okay to no longer keep distances from these animals? When big money got involved. Just like at sea world and all the other parks imprisoning wild animals for human profit. Would a park put a trainer in the compound with a lion or grizzly bear and ask those animals to treat that human as they would their prey right up until it was time to actually eat the prey? No! That is why humans should never feed wild animals especially those apex predators who will inevitably become aware of how unnatural and not normal this is and strike back. We can’t leave the wild animals alone and aren’t satisfied to watch them from very far away. We have penetrated their “normal” in every way. Even with bear attacks in the wild, someone is benefiting from attacks on humans who insist on evading normal habitats of bears for the almighty dollar! Let’s sell the story in a book or on you tube. It’s not going to ever change back to that natural normal world where animals aren’t frustrated every day by humans. Humans are just too stupid. It would be better for the animals to never have to live where they are truly not where they should be in normal. They are truly better off extinct.

Watch the documentary Blackfish. It is now available free in CZcams It is excellent, but sad. Orcas should not be in captivity. The documentary goes in depth about Sea World and their culpability in what happened in many orca violence that occurred.
