Union County, which includes Hudson, Bergen, Essex, and Union, is the same county as Summit. These counties are all situated to the immediate west of New York City.
The Summit is one of the designated National Historic Places, thus there is a lot of history here. This area is filled with a variety of furniture, dining options, coffee shops, pizza restaurants, live music venues, and a small diner. The Holland Tunnel, which connects the neighborhood to Manhattan's financial district, can be reached in about 40 minutes, and Manhattan is only a 35-40 minute drive away. You can see that I began on the first tape with this view of Maple and the land to the rear. The area close to the downtown train station served as the center for a lot of commercial and residential development in many old downtowns.
Overlook Hospital, one of the biggest hospitals in the region, is reachable on foot. On July 4th, you can practically drive up and see fireworks displays from the hospital parking deck.

Set aside the prices of the houses..$50,000 per year property taxes ? Those houses one might aspire to as a young person, not the mansions but the nice sized charming drafty old houses..The American Dream dies at the foot of those property taxes. In 10 years 58..15 years 62..
We used to go the town center and pull over for 5-10 minutes to pickup a coffee/ pastry a sandwich or a juice or a soup just to enjoy the pretty town center all the time, but a year and a half ago all the pickup/standing only spots were all blocked off with ugly cones so they can't be unsed. What a ridiculous idea . Those spots were of some service. So we havent shopped there in over a year due to that.
Thanks for the comment @merseybeat1963! The struggle for obtaining the American Dream is real! Property taxes and the price of housing in markets like Summit can be very challenging because of these dynamics. But there are options for every income bracket, and I endeavor to cover the full continuum of markets in northern and central NJ.
Great video and detailed about the town of Summit. I’m currently looking to purchase and it’s a toss up between Summit and Westfield for my wife and I.
