I was sticking on rails when I was learning to grind too. Here is the progression that I used to learn how to soul grind. Hope it helps other skaters too.
    1. Stand next to the ledge that you are trying to grind on. Using your soul plate on one foot, jump onto the ledge and balance on it. Let the other foot just hang in the air. This is called a makio stall, and is a great way to learn how to grind. Try and hold this stall for 5 seconds or more to learn the balance point.
    2. Once you can hold the makio stall, it’s time to start rolling. Get a little bit of speed, and roll next to the ledge. Put the soul plate of your one foot on the ledge, and slide across it. Leave your other foot rolling on the ground. This will help you get used to the height and feel of the ledge.
    3. Next, you can try the makio grind. When you’re sliding the soul plate of your skate across the ledge, start to pick up your other foot. At first, you will only be able to get your foot up for a second before having to put it back down. As you practice more, you can skate at the ledge faster so you can slide a further distance. This is the makio grind!
    4. Once you can slide on the ledge doing the makio grind, then move onto the soul stall. Stand next to the ledge, jump onto it, and practice locking both of your feet onto the ledge in the soul stall position.
    5. Once you feel comfortable with the soul stall, you can start to practice the soul grind. Do the makio grind like in step 3, and slide for just a little bit. Once you start sliding, lift up your outside foot, and bring the center of your frame onto the ledge to do the soul grind.
    6. Step number 5 shows you how to do the soul stall in two movements (makio then outside foot onto the ledge). You can practice doing a better soul stall by jumping and putting both of your feet onto the ledge at the same time. You can also practice getting more speed to grind further.
I hope this helps! Good luck with your next skate session!

You may need to try it one footed first like a makio...one footed soul grind...
That's how I started. So, instead of trying to jump in 2 footed, roll along side and put the soulplate of one foot onto the ledge (makio) with the other foot rolling along the ground. Let it slide and gradually take the other foot off the ground for longer and longer times to get a feel for the slide and then try using 2 feet. I still do some grinds one foot at a time.
Also, this sounds patronising but we all do it. You need to jump up and land on the ledge/rail from above as opposed to from the side. We all make this mistake.
Anyway, keep it up. You can skate far better than I can in every other way.

But be safe, if you get hurt don't hide it, you need to let someone else know that you are hurt. It's not cool to get hurt and act like its no big deal. If you seem like you are just getting worse and falling more and more, you are getting tired and maybe it's time to call it quits for the day. Also bring knee pads and a helmet. Stay safe and have fun! ;)

Seing such an expansive skate getting gutted to fit an intuition in it feels realy weird, That is such a pricy set up! You have to keep pushing, aggressive takes a while to get right. If you dont practice often you wont see your skills evolve much. I used to practice stalling tricks on curbs for hours when I started, not even rolling in. Keep trying, youll get it. Plus your skating skill s are really good so that already a win! And most importantly have fun doing it, wear protection and remember, everyone fails and falls!
ps: at some point the skates wont make all the difference. Find one where your feet feel good enough and stick to them for a while. Changing skates can completly change the feeling you will have riding (probably urban skates are the same?). So sometime it might feel like relearning, especially jumping from hardboot to soft boot to hybrid to carbon. They all have different feels when riding. Choose one you like and ride it till its destroyed.

I used to skate since i was 12 but i did not keep it up, would quit for a long time then try again only a little, and only got to the level you are at here. I had too much fear about falling and my autism and mental health got in the way of getting any good at it, I also was tired of falling so much that I just quit. I also had gotten Razors genesys, picked up skating again when I was 23-25 but the skates are not very comfortable and felt unnatural compared to USD or shoe like skates (and they were very stiff and made noise moving in them) and so I got frustrated with my fear of falling and lack of progression so I quit. But I tried skiing only recently (im 31 now) and found i could learn it easier since i used to aggressive skate I think skiing also helps with learning balance and building leg strength, I would like to try skating again. Keep aggressive skating alive!!! Thanks

Most skateboarders I've ever met don't like wax on things or if they do then only a tiny bit. 🤷‍♂️ It's cool if you use it or don't, but it would appear the majority of skateboarders don't like people waxing things at the park.

Try to grind with only your soul-foot first, because it goes all on that one. Then add the other one and you got a soul grind. Think of the grinds like a fusion of several micro-movements that verges on one final thing.
Rodney Mullen talks about this in a TedxTalk and it was HUGE for me.
Before that, i was "oh no man, my body is not athletic enough for doing this." Then i started to think about it thru physics and, in one day, i learn every grinds and how to switch and do a 360 from soul.
Best wishes for you and keep up the good work.

Hello there. I'M AN AGGRESSIVE SKATER... HERE: 6:00
All you need to so is practice standing and jumping onto the object you want to grind a few times. Locking on before rolling up to it at speed.
Literally just stand as you are at 6:00 parallel to the ledge and in ONE JUMP, LAND BOTH YOUR SOUL FOOT AND FRONT FRAME FOOT ( SOUL GRIND ) TO GET FAMILIAR LANDING BOTH FEET SAME TIME, JUMPING DIRECTLY IN TOP OF THE LEDGE - NOT AT AN ANGLE. Practice jumping, on and off the ledge, in place, no roll up.
Then get speed and roll up to grind that puppy. You will carry speed to if you land on top, centered. PLUS WAX IF NEEDED. That box rail was like sandpaper XD.

Like you, I had an issue finding skates that fit, and that had the support that my wrecked ankles need. Sounds like the SX might be a good skate for me as-is, without gutting it. I'm also a US9.5, which has no direct EU size equivalent, skates are either too big or too small, only a handful of skate makers make US half-sizes, and not everyone carries them anyway...
I ended up picking up a pair of USD Aeons, but had to replace the liner with some Reign V3-Vcuts. Learning aggressive from scratch on a flat setup is difficult, though... but still fun.

My parents bought me aggressive skates for my birthday a few years ago, I used them like once because my birthday was in November and for the next 4 months it was wet outside so I couldn't skate. After the 4 months had passed my skates no longer fit me. Since then my shoe size has grown to 48eu, does anyone know of any aggressive skates that are in my size?? Preferably less than $500.

Ok, I can just barely skate but I watch tons of videos including all of yours. I think you should stick with the low rail & do your run up from farther back so you have more momentum to hold the skates on the edge. Try not to pull yourself off as soon as you get on the edge. I think you need to concentrate on that. You’re a really great skater just trying something new. You will get it. 👍☮️🌞

Little bit by little but work your muscles into the memory first such as a grid keep hopping on a rail in the grind but still until your comfortable and the go for moving etc

don't try to land your soul foot straight, try to lock it at an angle because it's coping box,and you need wax as well 😊

  • @overanalytics9731
    @overanalytics9731 Před 4 lety

It looks like the angle you're going into it might be to much of and angle but that comes with practice.
The quarter or half pipe looks a bit long too.
    Then ending was good!

He did use wax, you can see him applying it when he moves from the small rail to the box along the edge of the skatepark.

    @victordraghiciu7670 Před 4 lety

Ok first just jump onto the obstacle that you want to grind and hold the position .when u try to grind i can see you stay to far from the ledge and this is why u come off .when you are onto the ledge grinding your shoulders and head should be directly over the ledge in order to keep grinding.just practice first soul grind stall i mean just jump onto the ledge and hold the position by balancing for as long as you feel comfortable.then move to actually grinding.also there are a lot of tutorials here on youtube.
Also before you start grinding learn how to skate properly.feel the skates and learn how to control them

Why would anyone NOT skate aggressive... AGGRESSIVE SKATING is so much fun. It serves the same purpose as a speed skate - so just skate aggressive man. Tricks and AIRS are where its at.
