I’ve been thinking about the tradition of piercing girls’ ears. I recently saw an article and people in the comment section were saying “one couldn’t tell she’s a girl otherwise”, “so what, it makes the girl pretty” and so on. I also realized how brainwashed I was, as I had my ears pierced as a baby and they made the prospect of letting the holes close up sound like a horrible medical emergency. I grew up scared of it and never even questioned why it was supposed to be so bad. Now I have two permanent holes in my body because the society thinks I need to insert metal objects into myself because of my gender. Sure, it’s not really a huge inconvenience and worse things are done to babies, but I still wish it hadn’t been done to me without my consent. Doctors have also suggested, completely unprompted, that I have plastic surgery done for something that does not cause any medical issues (both as a child and as an adult). When a grown adult woman wants to get sterilized, they deny it and tell her she doesn’t know what she wants. But if it’s in order to be attractive, they will push surgeries and body modifications onto her and shame her decision not to. And I’m sure it happens to men too, to some extent.

Shall we go back to the caveman where the sex’s must have dressed different at some point I would think ? Can you tell the animal kingdom to change how it looks ? The lion has a mane to attract the female a peacock has its feathers to attract the female as does a mallard 🦆 etc . When she grows up she can do that on her own, he said about her childhood so the "attracting a mate" part is null and void because he's talking about her childhood. I as a grown woman can make the choice to dress how I want to attract the people I want, that OBVIOUSLY should not be a requirement for a child
