    Hi Kevin. In my book, that qualifies as a masterpiece. It looks and sounds fantastic! I'm standing by with baited breath to see how it does as you continue your testing. I'm always impressed with the level of detail and data that you include in your testing programs. Keep up the great work sir and thank you for allowing us to stand humbly by looking over your shoulder as you do.

      Bob McBride thanks but bollocks Bob;-) I'm just a hobbyist trying to leave behind something that can solve the issue of Rotax price point killing off medium Aviation. The two strokes are fine for the fun flyers but I always wanted a genuinely tour-able motor. Run into an obstacle that was unforeseen, the generator isn't a permanent magnet type, so needs a battery just to make output. Disconnect battery and it stops, even with the generator output attached...now found out that isn't true, later revision on wiring diagram means battery or generator failure it keeps going

      @@KevinArmstrong4154 ..and how that can be solved? external generator attached to the drive by a belt perhaps?

    • @KevinArmstrong4154
      @KevinArmstrong4154  Před 5 lety +6

      No need Polar Flyer. Now found by accident that the generator when connected directly to the ECUs and pump will run the injection system without a battery connected, in fact it refused to stop when switched off! Cured this by including the relay for the pump in the ignition switch circuit, and isolating the generator when stopped as that flattens the battery. Posted the new wiring diagram via Dropbox Link. Flown a number of times now, burning 7.5 litres per hour at 60mph in a draggy trike, just think what this could do in a sleek fixed-wing...

      It's fuel injection, the oxygen sensors in the exhaust sense current mixture strength, and feed it back to the system. Same as modern cars and motorcycles. It's an ATV motor

    How much does it weigh? Can it pull tractor style? I would guess the bearting in the PSRU would be key to handling the thrust direction.

    • @KevinArmstrong4154
      @KevinArmstrong4154  Před 3 lety +1

      Redrive used for Tractor more often than pusher, Ace Aviation made it to my design but they added a huge circlip to the propeller shaft to stop it withdrawing under tension (it cannot do that anyway as it's clamped) becaue USA customers asked for it. Bearings accept thrust in pusher or traction as they are twinned deep groove ball bearings with one roller to handle the big belt tension nearest the motor.

    • @KevinArmstrong4154
      @KevinArmstrong4154  Před 3 lety +1

      I weighed the bare engine at 42 kilos but add 4-6 kilos for exhaust unless you are OK with open pipes, plus another 6 for cooling system and maybe 4.5-5 for the reduction drive. Mine is very clumsily designed as didn't know how much the uneven pulse of a V-Twin would shake the airframe, so added several kilos of extra supports and bracing

    Kevin, I need an engine for the Pulsar Aircraft kit I am building. It calls for a Rotax 582 but I would much rather install a four stroke . I am desperately seeking solutions to this problem. If you would so kind as to point me in the right direction I would certainly appreciate sir. Also, I need the weight to be comparable to the Rotax 582 set up.
    Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter sir.

Weight comparable to a 582 but doesn't require the big tuned exhaust, so engine heavier, but exhaust can be minimal. Just needs oxygen sensor sockets

      Yellowhammer, if you don't mind me asking, is your Pulsar to be an SSDR or will it remain as a permit aircraft. The reason I ask is that the LAA (well CAA requirement to be fair) would insist on a dual ignition system, which rules out 4 valve engines like this as there is just no way to fit additional spark plugs into the head. If its an SSDR like Kevs, then no issue as you can fit whatever engine you like. I'm aware of at least one SSDR Pulsar.

    Hi Kevin,i reallu appreciate yours videos, i'm in making a hovercraft , with a rotax snowmobile engine similar to yours, 800cc 4 strokes, electronique injection, i want to put a propeller, but i dont't know what kind of reduction drive to use ( pulleys and belt ) , and how to fix it to the engine block , and my cranckshaft shaft are taper.

    • @KevinArmstrong4154
      @KevinArmstrong4154  Před 4 lety

      The reduction drive was designed at my engineering office originally for a Briggs engine, and later strengthened to suit the 61hp or 45KW unit, which is a Chinese copy of yours. You can buy the reduction for a good price from Ace Aviation, website aceaviation.co.uk. email is info@aceaviation.co.uk and admin@aceaviation.co.uk. The factory is in India to keep costs low and run by a British man, John Penry-Evans, their workmanship and quality are excellent. If you email me can send you the drawings. The reduction has to have a clamping bush on the crankshaft so it can be moved in and out to align the belt pulleys, this needs a parallel shaft, so we added an adapter with internal taper and outside plain parallel to suit the clamping bush. The engine has two 10mm threaded mounting holes each side, and my drawings include brackets and spacers both to mount the reduction drive and fix an upper attachment for an engine anti vibration fixing to your chassis. look forward to adding you to my DropBox access link. recommend you send me photographs of your engine to make sure the mountings are in the correct place please, glad to help

      Gaokin, bought from Connie Chen at Copower, Wuxi, pretty much a copy of the Rotax. Others have bought from different distributors as Copower have issues with the Alibaba paperwork. I've now got translated copies of the wiring diagram and Fuel Injection plugs, thanks to son who worked in China, as drawings. Send over a private message and can add anyone wanting to follow this to a Dropbox file. So far so promising, got to rebuild the wing so someone can test fly it, but so far no overheating or oil leaks so looks good...
