VIDEO of The Lirahunu Satuye Dance Club (from Dangriga, Belize) meeting The Chief Joseph Chatoyer Garifuna Folkloric Ballet of New York in the Bronx on SUNDAY July 14th 2013. They are in The Mary Mitchell Family and Youth Center in the Bronx.
In this video, you will see these two groups meet and introduce themselves to each other. The Chief Joseph Chatoyer Garifuna Folkloric Ballet of New York welcomes this group in song and The Lirahunu Satuye Dance Club responds by singing the International Garifuna Anthem, 'Tageira' or 'Yurumei'. What makes this meeting significant is the fact that while the Lirahunu Satuye Dance Club are from Dangriga, Belize; The Chief Joseph Chatoyer Garifuna Folkloric Ballet of New York consists of Garifuna people who are from Honduras, Guatemala and America making this meeting an international cultural exchange as well as an attempt at getting to know each other under the common bond of being of Garifuna descent. At the end of the video, you will see Garifuna Singer Paula Castillo of Guatemala address the assembled Garifuna People.
Founded in 1999, The Lirahunu Satuye ('Children of Satuye' in the Garifuna Language) Dance Club are from Dangriga, Belize and are highly sought after. The Group have traveled to Chiapa, Poza Rica and Vera Cruz in Mexico City and also traveled to Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Panama in Central America. They have performed regularly at several resorts in the Stann Creek District. Occasionally they go to other parts of Belize City such as Belmopan, San Ignacio and Toledo districts to perform. This is their first trip to the United States of America. They will be featured in a Garifuna Awareness Concert on SATURDAY July 20th 2013 in the Bronx.

I really love this video. Its so heartwarming to see both groups connect so beautifully with cultural songs. I'm half-Garifuna and am only just learning about the amazing culture that runs in my veins. Thank you for posting this! :D
