I've been a toolmaker for 40 something years and appreciate his workmanship. I have made similar parts but his skills are still way better than what I can do. Good work. I can't weld like that!
There aren't many 15 minute videos on youtube that I have watched from start to end without skipping a second but this is one of them, simply amazing!

i remember spending hours and hours with my fabricator when I was young building parts for my car just like this, his attention to detail was exactly the same, most people only ever see the end product, question why things cost so much, but when something can take an entire day to create, the expertise, the precision, its art, amazing welds and craftmanship mate

I'm not a metalworker of any sort, nor a welder, etc. This might be something any competent worker can accomplish, but to me, this is just pure friggin magic. Just beautiful, artistry in motion.
As a twenty plus year fabricator of sheet metal (ferrous and non ferrous) and heavy plate up to 6" thick (industrial ventilation, conveyors, food grade pipping and hoppers, ship building and ASME Coded Pressure Vessels), it's always a pleasure to watch a craftsman.

Just look at that! Absolutely blown away, had I not seen the video I would never have believed that the spacer was essentially 'Hand Made', even the attention to detail lavished on the MDF form was done without compromise. Captivated, great video, thanks for posting and for the effort made to capture this footage.

The way he marked out and drilled the holes for the screws holding the two MDF pieces together was the mark of a true craftsman - nobody else would even see these formers.

Very good workmanship!... when I was younger I used to do welding for Sandia Laboratories in New Mexico but now that I'm older I'm patching holes on motorcycle engine cases and welding frames. I'm retired but I never get tired of TIG welding.

This is impressive workmanship. In the 80's I was federally certified as a welder on building military vehicles and trailers. I welded tig, mig, and spray arched aluminum. I loved my work because, you can always improve your technic, your speed, and your quality. I'm mainly commenting to ask a question. Do any of you who are welders, or were at one time, do you all close your eyes when someone strikes an arc on these videos? I catch myself doing it all the time.
Dennis Shadix I don’t, but I really learned about welding through CZcams first, then got my certification about 5 years ago. So compared to a lot of the grey beards I guess I’m still green, maybe don’t have the self preservation instinct kicking in like it should

I had the privilege of watching a master aluminum welder and machinist at work for a year. Incredibly talented!!! I will never forget the dedication he had to the service he provided to his customers and to the military. I am sure they miss him!! :) As so many others do!! :)
Wearing gloves while using machinery can be dangerous, especially for beginners. If you accidentally touch your glove to a moving part, it can snag and pull your hand into the moving part, potentially causing a serious injury. If you lack experience, good hand-eye coordination, and/or the ability to concentrate entirely on the task at hand, then DON'T WEAR GLOVES AROUND MACHINERY.
-If something I do in these videos doesn't seem safe to you, by all means, don't do it. But please no more "safety police" comments about it here in the comments section.
Here's why I wear gloves:
I've been building parts like these for a very long time. I know exactly where I can and cannot place my hands (while operating machinery) in order to stay safe. Handling sharp sheet metal bare handed on a daily basis inadvertently creates LOTS of small cuts, and your hands get really dirty. With gloves on, I can grip the parts really tight (without worrying about the sharp edges), which increases my safety by reducing the chance of slipping while running machinery (band saw, drill press, etc.).
And metal gets hot while belt sanding. You can grip a hot part tighter and longer with gloves on. I've seen numerous people (including myself) try to belt sand a thin part bare handed, and accidentally launch it halfway across the room because it got too hot to hold tight.
Think things through before acting, pay close attention to where your hands are at all times, and work within your own personal safety limits.

I agree, even in the food industry. I do not like to use gloves that don't fit perfectly when I use a knife because they always end up getting in the way. its easier and safer for me to cut without gloves on but since its food I
prefer to wear gloves so I usually buy my own pair.
I could watch this for hours, I also wear gloves for every single thing I do, always been mocked for that but I don't care, I can't grab hot things without feeling any pain so I use gloves and fuck you all if you find it ridiculous :)

I hate to say this but that was one of the most awesome pieces of fabrication I have seen in some time.
I have done welding and fabrication for almost 40 years and on my best day I couldn't possibly make such beautiful welds.
Too often today people just go straight to a CNC with a billet of metal and machine it. I learned to work with something like that being cast to a near net shape then machined which was expensive for a one off but *shrug* that's what we had to work with.
The only even slightly negative thing is that I thought the turntable to do the one weld was a little bit of showing off but if I had the skill to TIG like that I would show it off as well!

Fantastic workmanship. I was confused at the start until I realised you were making a form to bend the metal around. My only complaint was that the last part when you showed the finished piece should have been at regular speed so I could truly appreciate it for a bit!

I've got to wonder how many no-bids the part customer got when trying to get this fabricated. Decades ago shops would do this at a loss just to take the challenge. I worked for a guy who took apart his mill and rebuilt the head over his lathe just to cut special threads in some wonky plastic rods in the first case of active tooling I'd ever seen. Now the challenge falls on the engineer to design something that drops nicely into a CNC's working envelope. I understand pricing pressures and progress and certainly appreciate the added capability CNC brings. But I do miss the art. BTW, best aluminum welds I've ever seen. Nice.
