    Exquisite tree. Does anyone in central PA. Zone 5b have personal experience with this cultivar? We can have hard frosts all the way to May 1st. The flowering cherries also tend to be short-lived in this area. I would love to plant this gorgeous tree but fear that most years it will be blasted by hard frosts and never flower. *THANK YOU DAVID for another wonderful video. Love them all.*

    • @OverdevestNurseries
      @OverdevestNurseries  Před 5 měsíci +4

      Mary, this is David. thanks for posting your kind note.
      I am hopeful that as this video gets circulated, we might hear directly from folk about their experiences with this lovely selection. That's the beauty of us all getting a chance to chip in with our views and experiences.
      And also, now that you know about it, perhaps you'll be able to keep an eye out in your neighborhoods, and be able to recognize any that might be already growing in your general area. It is very distinctive and easy to spot.
      As for the trees in the video, you'll be interested to know that the pictures I took of the trees (with blue sky behind them), were taken last week in Harrisburg, PA. I know its not as cold as your 5b, but as you can see they were flowering in all their glory, and standing out terrifically amongst all the other drab looking plants. So, they make a very welcome sight, at this drab time.
      Yes, Cherries tend to be short lived (maybe 30-40 years) but at the Morris Arboretum and some other places in the region, some old venerable specimens that are now almost 80 years old are still "alive and kickin", albeit misshapen and with hollow trunks etc., but I understand still going!
      With something so early flowering, there's always the chance that they are going to get "zapped" by a cold spell, and that's a shame when it happens, but on the other hand with your colder, later start (especially if they are facing north) you should escape some of the freezing havoc and at least enjoy a percentage of the flowering most years.
      Lets see what, other folk are finding with their plants.
      Thanks again for your kind, supportive comments.

    Do these cherry trees actually produce cherry fruit? Or are they specifically grow for their flowers?:)

    • @OverdevestNurseries
      @OverdevestNurseries  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thanks for an interesting question. They are ornamental cherries that are grown for their flowers and sometimes their shape, habit and with a few ornamental bark!
      Sometimes, some selections will produce some seed, but they are not cherries like the fruit producing forms.

    Are B & B trees not as good as container grown trees ?

    • @OverdevestNurseries
      @OverdevestNurseries  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Its not that they are not as good, they have their place! But we like that container grown trees are lighter and easier to transport and move around, and well grown ones have a fibrous root system that helps them transplant easily, so they suffer minimal disruption and usually get off to a quicker start and better establishment.
      Should you be interested here's a link to another of David's video: czcams.com/video/6Y2ASxsy64U/video.htmlsi=rEvcW5n-SJSLicEF that will let you see what our container grown trees look like and how to plant them.
