Met him once ,in Lincoln. Those few minutes talking affected my life for the good.

What a man - a true Brummie who will be sadly missed. RIP dear Villa fan 😢
I wish I had heard of this guy earlier! Sounds like he was a great positive local Villa supporting Brummie! UTV! We need more of him! RIP...
I met him years ago at a small festival in Cornwall

Ode to Aston Villa , Benjamin Zephaniah a true Villa Fan
Very sad i have not listened to his poetry but he seems like a very genuine guy. Would have liked to have met him. Not a word about race in his wise words. Top man. I am a villa fan of 52 years and love our great club. We founded the oldest league on the planet and invited 11 other teams to be part of that league thanks to our chairman William McGregor. Benjamin rip
Such sad news. RIP Benjamin.
Brilliant bloke. Rest in peace.🙏
‘The way to get up is to understand what it’s like to be down’. Indeed. Relegated a year later. But 6 years on, third season back in the prem and going places under seriously rich and ambitious owners. UTV

Hello I am American and not only do I not care for soccer, but I don't even like American Sports anymore. My question for the commenters here is why does liking a certain soccer team make you a good person? Why is this person such a good bloke.
Football not soccer.

Who he supports doesn't make him a good person - he is a good person anyway, expressed through his local work and poetry which has reached a wide audience. But he wouldn't place himself above anyone else...
Give that man a razor, fluffy beard alert

🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮
Grow up
To me this guy doesn't represent Birmingham or the United Kingdom,
How the frig would you know what represents Birmingham or the UK? For the record Birmingham is the most diverse place in the UK so the man is a perfect representation of the place.
You already said in another comment that you’re American, so how would you know about who represents Birmingham?
Good job you're not from Birmingham or the UK. This guy is a Villa legend.
Such a pathetic and worthless comment. What on earth do you know about Birmingham or the UK.
