Bearings are not sealed. They require lubrication. Common practise to warm thick oil for it to penetrate.

Sorry Alex I thought they were sealed so obviously couldn’t understand the attempt to lubricate them.
I have seen many Reel maintenance videos where the oil is warmed up, but never seen that method used in my fifty years in engineering. I kind of understand the principle but would prefer to use a suitable grease
Please don’t think I’m criticising, far from it it’s one of the best reel maintenance vids on CZcams and I refer to it quite often
Thanks Alex and well done 👍

@@Moonstomper-fh6qp @Moonstomper 1927 no trouble at all, thanks for replying. This method was inspired by the late great Neil Mackellow back in the 90s and I've used it ever since, it really does make the 20s extremely smooth and reliable, when using motor oil. I think it's just an extreme way of ensuring total penetration. I think grease would be too heavy. 10w-40 motor oil, for me, has been perfect. I've tried 'reel' oil, and it was far too fast. Glad you find the video useful, much appreciated and best regards.
