    I found the book "The Boys in the Boat" in my basement. It is about rowing back in the 30's. It describes in detail, the muscles, mental strength, and stamina, not to mention pain that competitive rowing demands. You have "8" men that must become "1" with every stroke of the oar. I had to come here and watch what I am reading about. These men are like thoroughbred horses. I am appreciating my book more after watching this.

    It seems like in a race like this where your speed is based on the sum effort of 8 people, it's hard to have big comebacks or sprint finishes, because you can't have one person go beastmode and pass some people. You would need all 8 of your people, on average, to suddenly find energy to go much faster than all 8 of their people, which seems relatively unlikely.

      No clue what they mean by 'top?' Perhaps they mean cox. That person is the coxswain (cox for short), and they steer the boat + give commands.

    • @hayes9611
      @hayes9611 Před 5 lety +4

      It's the coxswain. Basically they yell at the rowers the whole race, give them motivation and instructions, and they also have a mechanism that they can control the rudder and steer the boat. It's actually a really important position of the boat, especially an 8 man boat

    イートン・コース、素晴らしいですね。
    日本では今、会場選定で揉めていますが、日本にも一つくらい「国際規格専用コース」が有っても良いのでは?
    今有る全ての競技会場が、河川・湖沼での「兼用」利用です。
    文化的にボート競技への理解が不足しているのは(歴史的に)当然ですが、世界中から注目を浴びる東京五輪に、是非とも世界に誇れる競技会場を設営して頂きたい。
    ロンドン、北京、更には遡ってソウルに、でさえ、素晴らしい会場が有ります。
