    As a 49ers fan, this game will always remain special to me. Not just because we won and got revenge on the Seahawks, but because this was the last day I got to have with my 16 -year-old Yorke terrier named Charlie before he passed away the next day. He already had health issues throughout the year and we knew his time was coming. When they won, I remember picking him up to celebrate. I miss both Charlie and my other doggie named Taz who unexpectedly died a year later.
    The 2019 season was a fantastic year to be a 49er fan, even though we came up short in the end.
    I really hope the 49ers can get good again.

    • @sovietdog2190
      @sovietdog2190 Před 4 lety +22

      Paul Gaither see but the thing is you guys did lose the game to something you could control. Like catching those passes or making the field goal. The Seahawks lost to something they couldn’t control. A missed call that would have changed the game. This isn’t a very good comparison. Ref ball and missed opportunities are totally different

    • @paulgaither
      @paulgaither Před 4 lety +61

      @@sovietdog2190 - I cut my comment short, but we can dig into this:
      1. The Seattle player drove literally head first into the defender and initiated contact, which by rule means the "holding" was not a penalty. This is the same as when the 49ers lost the Super Bowl to the Ravens and the throw to Crabtree which was not flagged. It was the right call.
      2. What I did not think I needed to say, but will here:
      • Seattle failed to score on the 4th down play which set up 1st and goal.
      • Seattle forgot that after a spike on 1st and goal, it is NOT a time out and only had 40 seconds. They didn't even break the huddle on that delay of game.
      • Wilson threw an interception on 2nd and goal but the defender only got one foot in bounds.
      • They had a 4th and goal where they ran a flipped version of the same play where the Titans came up 1 yard short to the Rams in the 99 Super Bowl with the same result.
      All of those thing were within the team's control.
      • Go back and watch the Seahawks offensive line play and notice all of the obvious holding they got away with against the 49ers pass rush. All of those are real fouls that they got away with.

    • @sovietdog2190
      @sovietdog2190 Před 4 lety +8

      There were plenty of chances for the Seahawks to win the game. As were the 49ers in Week 10. Most teams can get away with holding throughout the game. AKA the packers who are pretty good at it. But woth the new rule making PI reviewable they didn’t even stop a moment to clear it up. They kept the game going. On the 1st and goal where we got the delay of game according to people I’ve heard from george fant was hurt so they needed time to get him of the field

    • @paulgaither
      @paulgaither Před 4 lety +16

      @@sovietdog2190
      To continue on the topic of the no-call and no-review, I do not like the rule, but I understand it.
      While different sports, football uses a similar tactic as basketball - drawing a foul.
      What the Seahawks player did was lean into the defender (initiating contact) and using that as leverage to push off and get seperation. Randy Moss, Michael Irvin, Rob Gronkowski and other tall and/or big body guys do this and often get away with it under the "let them play" mentality.
      Yes, the 49ers defender grabbed and held. That is allowed by rule when an offensive player initiates contact like that.
      We all know that if the 49ers defender allowed that push off without holding, there never would have been an OPI flag. However, the defender knew the rules and they practice this stuff, and he did his job within the rules of the game.

      @@paulgaither That exact same no call happened earlier in the game when a 49er (I think it was Kittle) was held by Wagner. The refs were consistent about this type of plays.
      The truth is that Seattle lost the game because their coaches exhaled when they converted that 4th and 10 and forgot the game keeps going. You could hear one of their coaches say "they didn't reset the play clock?" (I think it was on Inside the NFL's highlights), it's like they assumed that would happened because they're bringing Lynch in but it was a strange brain fart.
      Any other excuse is just ignoring that they had a 1st and goal from the 1 yard with 22 seconds left. It's easier to blame the refs than admit your coaching staff is bad

The Receiver initiated the contact with the Defender at the Goaline (Illegal contact beyond 5 yards btw) by running straight into his chest, grabbed him inside and tried to push him off balance in an attempt to push off and break outside. The defender has every right to stand his ground. The refs seen right through Seattle's desperation attempt at trying for a free flag. Not gonna happen with a Championship on the line. Bottom line is, Seattle had 8 tries to score from the 12 and failed, period, case closed. We don't even need to get into the countless Offensive Holdings, the illegal blocks in the back, or the beyond the LOS TD pass that Russ had earlier to even get Seattle back in this game. In layman's terms, they called the right play at the right time, and it was executed perfectly.. Right down to the tackling technique used by Greenlaw, when he chose to go high rather than low.. If Greenlaw goes low, I think Hollister's momentum would've ultimately taken him into the end-zone.. The fact that Greenlaw understood this, is a credit to the coaching of Saleh and his assistants.. They learned this lesson a couple weeks prior when almost the same thing happened at the end of the Atlanta game. So I have to believe that it was a point of emphasis when going over the film from that game.

    After seahawks had 1st and goal on the 3 inch line, I screamed numerous obscenities and went outside. Then my kid starts yelling and tells me that the 9ers won and I looked at her and said "sweetheart, don't ever joke about my team like that. Ever! Now, leave me alone for the rest of the night please." Then I came back inside and saw them celebrating... legendary goaline stand.

      @@BM4949. What happens if Seahawks score, just like in Atlanta? Everyone would talk about how we should have gone for it on 4th & 1. Our defense (and the refs) let them get to the 1 yard line! How would that be more risky than letting our offense go for it and run the clock? Defense has been solid for a good portion of the season. But what did we learn from our losses? Don't let the other team have possession late in the fourth when a TD can win the game. Especially when they have a capable QB.
