It's hard to believe someone hasn't heard this BUT, maybe they just never listened to the lyrics while it's playing in a grocery store or whatever. If you listen to hip hop and have no interest in mainstream music it's just background noise to you at that point.
Nuno Bettencourt, the guitarist, is a musicians musician. He has written and arranged songs for Janet Jackson, Janes Addiction, Toni Braxton, Julian Lennon, etc. He tours with mega artists today like Rhianna (including her Superbowl performance). This list doesn't really do him justice, it's just what I can remember quickly off the top of my head. He's a beast on the guitar, but truly an artist first.
That is Gary Cherone and the great Nuno Bettencourt on guitar. They are a harder rock band and did this to get some radio air play. Thanks for doing this song. Your interpertation of actions speak louder than words is spot on.
Nuno is amazing, for most of those in the world of guitars we know the guy can shred with the best of them. But... the reality is they're really a one hit wonder band as far as mainstream goes, and this song, More Than Words, was that one hit. And bless them, still to this day they play this song for their fans when on tour.

More, Extreme: Get the Funk Out Play with Me Kid Ego Mutha (Don't Wanna Go to School Today) Brian May, Guitarist for Queen, said the guitar solo in, Get the Funk Out is the best he's EVER heard! 🔥🔥
Oh dude, you GOTTA see their performance at the Freddie Mercury concert. Brian May told them to do their own music, but when Gary and Nuno met, they discovered their favorite band was Queen, and as a test of one another's musical taste, they immediately said, "ok, on three, say your favorite Quren album, one, two, three," and as soon as they said the same album title at the same time they knew they had to collaborate. Nuno quit his band immediately, and joined Gary's band. Their part of the Freddie Mercury concert is the highlight of the show, because they told Brian they were doing Queen material anyway, which upset him, so he gave them an intro that threw down the gauntlet on them, basically challenging Extreme to really bring it. I've seen them perform live, and they play everything they put on their albums. This song was the softest, most Charmin song they released, mixed in with Frank Sinatra-style music, hard rock, pop rock, funk, prog, their musical scope encompassing exactly what their name is: Extreme. Their song "Play With Me", an ode to childhood playground games, was used in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, so do check that out. Also listen to "Flight Of The Wounded Bumblebee", a guitar solo Nuno HAS to play at every show. More Than Words is Extreme's biggest hit, practically making them seem like a one hit wonder, but for once, this is a band with other great songs, catchy grooves, tasty licks and incredible guitar work. Even Brian May of Queen has a video of himself reacting to what he believes is the greatest guitar solo of all time, by Nuno, from Get the Funk Out, another song you have to look into.

Even though the stroke was not a major stroke, the doctors decided that I had to have a TEE done on my heart; the doctors did not believe the head injury could have caused it. Due to a major car wreck I was in, I had to have implants put in my jaws and skull. Because of that the anesthesiologist did not use the smaller tools that she was told to use on me. She stabbed the back of my throat, my vocal cords, my pharynx, larynx, and even the sphincter to my stomach. I lost my voice for almost a year. I went to a vocal therapist for a year. She told me the singing would help to keep my voice when everything calms down; but vocal cords are a muscle and they have to be used or I would lose my voice, possibly forever. I sing everything except rap music, ha, ha! I love Hole Hearted and it is in my list of songs to sing. I don't have a bad voice, but I am not like the rest of my family either; for there were two country bands and one rock band that is still playing and making their own music, in my immediate family. I sing with my Mom a lot of Patsy Cline's songs; with my brothers I sing rock songs, and in the end we all end up singing gospel songs. You have great taste in music...Extreme is awesome.

I can really respect a band where the members can step aside and just let the others do their thing. I used to be in a small local band, and one of my pet peeves was each member always wanting to be the focus of every song.. but variety is good, and sometimes the drummer doesn't get a powerful drum solo, sometimes the guitarist doesn't get a wicked riff, sometimes the singer is there just to accent the music, or take a break for a few minutes while the musicians do their thing. I wanted to do some acoustic stuff with one of our guitarists, for bonus content to end some of our live shows, but our drummer never wanted to use a drum brush and just give a chill beat, or just use a shaker to keep a soft rhythm going, and our main guitarist fought tooth and nail to put a guiatr solo into everything (although he did cave to acoustic a couple of times). I love it when members of a band are just fine with sitting back and letting some other members shine on something that 'they' want to do.

I love this song (1990) and I still know all the words! One of the things I loved about the eighties/nineties rock bands was that no matter how hard rocking they were they weren’t afraid so be soft and sentimental too! ❤️❤️
at the beginning the drummer got up and laid down his sticks and the bassist unplugged.. if you watch they are sitting on the side.... THE ORIGINAL UNPLUGGED
The fact Extreme will never get past this song is sad. Next reaction to in this order would be awesome 1. Get the funk out. 2. Hole hearted 3. Motha don't want to go to school today 4. Kid ego 5. Warheads 6. Rise And many more
Nuno said he actually wrote this song in a small bathroom at the studio in about 15 mins 😂. You should check out "Get the Funk Out", see what Nuno is about. Amazing guitar player. Their newest album came out last year and everyone has lost it over his solo from Rise. He's amazing. They are originally from Boston, Nuno is Portuguese.
Gary Cherone’s (Italian American) lead vocals are stunning. Nuno Bettencourt (Portuguese) both from Boston. The band Extreme is from Boston and is basically a metal 80s band. Their album Pornagraffitti was released in 1990, which included this song they wrote together. Gary briefly sang lead vocals with Van Halen after David Lee Roth left and before Sammy Hagar took over. Nuno played guest guitar in the list below. Lead guitarists tour together just featuring best of the best like Nuno, referred to as Guitar Gods. He’s played with the best metal guitarists. Frankly …. I loved this the first time I heard it and bought the album because of it. I was totally shocked that all the other songs were the polar opposite of this one.
Steven Tyler says this is his all time favourite song because it is so well crafted and the vocals are perfection.😊 I love it because it’s just so beautiful. ❤
Nuno is an absolute beast on the guitar. If you noticed at the beginning of the video, the other two band members laid down their instruments. They are a full band. Check them out.
I never delved too deeply into Extreme, in fact I couldn't name another song of theirs, but I always thought that this song was so effin beautiful. The voices are superb, the guitar is all that is needed, and everything is just so perfect.
@@user-oh2hs6jh5x Hole Hearted is another song that you may be like "oh yeah, I remember this one." It had quite a bit of radio and MTv play, but just not the mega success More Than Words got
I watched an interview with these guys, they said they did this song basically as a rip "we can do a mushy ballad too". Hacking on the metal bands that were all putting out ballads. They both commented that they really didn't want to play it anymore, cause they didn't like it - said they wished they hadn't recorded it. But audiences at concerts just wouldn't let it go. I wish i could remember who did that interview, it was about a decade ago when i caught it.
The first time I heard this was coming home from operation desert storm. We had been in Saudi Arabia and Iraq and the bus driver from the airfield, where we had landed, was playing this song and I was blown away! Music had changed so much in the 9 months we were gone. And grunge had hit as well. Amazing
Gary Cherone (lead singer) is from Malden, Massachusetts. My husband was also from there and played with Gary for a short time before he moved to California in 1981(we met and married in 1987). Gary went on to be a rock star and hubby went on to be a business owner who played in bands for fun. He still regrets not sticking with it.
After this I wholeheartedly recommend another great tune from another great rock band- Mr Big. “ To Be With You”. Funky and soulful. Our generation’s musicians never limited themselves to just one musical style. They were highly versatile.
There's just something so pure and beautiful when voices harmonize. It can sometimes reach inside me and I can feel it touch my heart and soul. John and Paul and sometimes George could do that. When I hear The Beatles - If I Fell, it feels like John and Paul started singing together as soon as they could talk. The Eagles were also great with their harmony. Of course, there are many others. So harmonizing voices are sometimes more beautiful than the words they are singing.
'Get the Funk Out'!! has to be next. That's the first I heard from them, late 80s/early 90s. Guitarist Nuno Bettencourt has been getting even more acclaim recently, and justifiably so. The man straight up shreds. Funny touch having the other guys holding up lighters. Let's you know who they are, a real buncha dudes who can play, will do so anytime they're asked, probably play in-between too. 😅😊 😎🤙🏼🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊
The video starts with them turning off the amplifier. This song/video existed in the first wave of “unplugged “ music. The trend was so strong that MTV created a series called Unplugged and some amazing, intimate concerts were recorded for it. Nirvana, Mariah Carey, George Michael, Ricki Martin were among the artists featured on the show.
If you loved this, you will love Bryan Adams "Have You Ever Really Lived a Woman". It has a touch of Spanish flamenco guitar and the lyrics are amazing. Sure to make your playlist!
Not sure I ever heard any other "Extreme" song, however this song is completely unforgettable. Don't change your spontaneous choices for reactions. Because you're batting 4000 in my book.
You know, back in the 90s we had to ban these power balads from our parties, cause all the gilrls loved them....and we where the tough guys - no feelings allowed, just party and beer ;)
I’m 70. Extreme are one of my all time favourite band. My son learned one of Nuno Bettencourts guitar riffs. Even one of his dogs is called Nuno … 😀 Listen to their music. It’s awesome.
The first time I heard this song was when the coaches on The Voice sang together - Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton with carlson on guitar. Beautiful.
This was played on my friends funeral,, he loves this song for his fiancé, sad to say he got killed accidentally in a line of fire.. wrong place at the wrong time.. yes, this song came out in the 90’s always have a deep place in my heart when I hear this song..
One of my favorite bands ever! So many great songs, this one hit. Nuno is one of the best guitarists in the world. Gary is an amazing vocalist/performer and I saw him as the natural successor to Freddie. They did a whole set of their/Queen music at Freddie's memorial concert. "Get the Funk Ouit" - very funky and excellent official video Also, Jack Black/Jimmy Fallon did this on the night show, and Al Yankovic did a shot for shot of this video with NEW LYRICS. Nuno is Azorean Portuguese 100% Some men got a VERY different message to this song, disgustingly LOL
The Jack Black version surprised me with how genuinely good it is. I remember being so envious of Nuno's hair especially 😅 This will always be one of my favourite songs ever.
Jack Black and Jimmy Fallon did this song. Did an excellent job. Amazing. You need to listen to their version!! ❤️😎 This song just takes my breath away!! Love it. 💜
Late 80s-early 90s, in order to get signed, a Metal band had to produce a ballad that could get radio play. This is one of them. The guys hanging out in the chairs are the rest of the band.
I literally just looked for more from them because this was the only thing we ever heard in Texas. Back in the day...ugh, i know i said it....lol...music would hit west coast or east coast first and work it's way to texas about a year or two later so we didn't get everything "fresh" and "new" anyway.
I was going to walk down the aisle on Valentines today to this song but then we got into a big fight, broke up, called off the wedding, got back together two weeks later and got knocked up and had to get married at the courthouse with a judge because I cancelled the cake/dress/victorian house, etc and lost all the $$$. (Sorry mom and dad) We broke up in 2000...but still legally married....hahahaha Life is crazy,...and extreme. These songs are the soundtrack to Gen X's life....
Extreme is a great descriptor of their music. There's this song, their calling card. Then there's the other side of the world - Nino Bettencourt on guitar SHREDS, and the rest of the band ROCKS. Gary Cherone on vocals was the lead singer of Van Halen right after Sammy Hagar left - for one album.
It’s a band From the Boston area. Nuno is a true virtuoso and Gary the vocalist was in Van Halen for a short stint after this video. Check out He-Man Woman Hater or Rest in Peace if you want to hear his guitar prowess. They have a number of other songs similar to More than Words, such as Hole Hearted. They also have new songs like Rise that are not as strong but feature some crazy guitar solos.
This song came out in 1990. They were popular in the late 80's to the mid 90's. This song went to #1 and the album went to #10 and I believe went double platinum. I don't remember who it was, but one of the guys played in Van Halen for a while. He was on the Van Halen III album. One of the guys, Nuno Bettencourt, is of Portuguese descent which is probably the one you think looks native.
The fact that there are people who never heard this song before is WILLLLLLLLLLLLLD to me, haha.

Next reaction to in this order would be awesome
1. Get the funk out.
2. Hole hearted
3. Motha don't want to go to school today
4. Kid ego
5. Warheads
6. Rise
And many more
Most bands would kill to have a hit like this.

I attended a couple weddings back in the day where the couple used this song as their first dance. This song is just so good.
The man playing the guitar is Nuno Bettencourt. He did a duet of this song with Steven Tyler, and it is worth checking out. It is absolute FIRE!
One of my very favorite songs. At nearly 78, I absolutely still love this song.
I am also 78 and I totally agree!
Frankly …. Nuno, is lady eye candy. ❤

@@kentbriggs. I stand corrected. Don’t get old …. Your memory fades.
Extreme had a new album out earlier this year, still on the cutting edge of rock music.
This was their hit ballad but most of their music is hard rock great band
I loved this the first time I heard it and bought the album because of it. I was totally shocked that all the other songs were the polar opposite of this one.
Steven Tyler says this is his all time favourite song because it is so well crafted and the vocals are perfection.😊 I love it because it’s just so beautiful. ❤
The harmony always gives me shivers
Nuno is an absolute beast on the guitar. If you noticed at the beginning of the video, the other two band members laid down their instruments. They are a full band. Check them out.
He was fiddling with his food and missed that:)
Extreme has never stopped! Go see them on tour!!
I never delved too deeply into Extreme, in fact I couldn't name another song of theirs, but I always thought that this song was so effin beautiful. The voices are superb, the guitar is all that is needed, and everything is just so perfect.
Same here it evokes a time in my life. Gorgeous harmony n sentiment
@@user-oh2hs6jh5x Hole Hearted is another song that you may be like "oh yeah, I remember this one." It had quite a bit of radio and MTv play, but just not the mega success More Than Words got
You should look into them now. Some of their other songs are absolutely amazing!
"HOLE HEARTED" is the best song and the best representation of Extreme!
Amazing
Blown away by the music or the storm?
London.
@@Isleofskyeha! A bit of both, life changing
Soothing, and they are easy on the eyes. Great reaction.
It's a band, you see at the beginning of the video the rest of the group unplug, and during the video they had their lighters in the air.
Get The Funk Out, is a must. Catchy rock tune that will show their style!!!
I ❤ that one! Thank you 😊
As a guitarist... This tune ALWAYS gives me the "bumps".. That guitar work is so slick!
Yay. More hair bands. Every hairband has their ballads. This is Extremes. Check out Cinderella. You won't be disappointed.
My favorite band. Love seeing them winger, poison, def leppard, Nelson, Motley crue live. It's the best
***NOBODY'S FOOL***
Moscow peace fest had some awesome live song versions like Gypsy Road.
@allenruss2976 I never miss them live. Got our tickets for winger next month. Ready to go.
Rest in peace jeff LeBar. So missed
😎🤙🏼🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊
The video starts with them turning off the amplifier. This song/video existed in the first wave of “unplugged “ music. The trend was so strong that MTV created a series called Unplugged and some amazing, intimate concerts were recorded for it. Nirvana, Mariah Carey, George Michael, Ricki Martin were among the artists featured on the show.
Hole hearted...biggest hit....at least for me
Hole Hearted. Not as a big of a hit as More Than Words, but saved them from being a one hit wonder.
I’m
70. Extreme are one of my all time favourite band.
My son learned one of Nuno Bettencourts guitar riffs.
Even one of his dogs is called Nuno … 😀
Listen to their music. It’s awesome.
Magnificent harmonies
You HAVE to do Whole Hearted by Extreme!!! It's a must.
Steven Tyler and Nuno sang this song at the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize Concert!
The first time I heard this song was when the coaches on The Voice sang together - Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton with carlson on guitar. Beautiful.
They did a phenomenal job. I have it saved to my phone.
Fun fact . Nuno bettencourt. (Guitarist) later on in life was the Guitarist for rihanna
This is one of the most epic songs ever! I love Nuno Bettencourt❤️
This was played on my friends funeral,, he loves this song for his fiancé, sad to say he got killed accidentally in a line of fire.. wrong place at the wrong time.. yes, this song came out in the 90’s always have a deep place in my heart when I hear this song..
Hello Black Pegasus this song was released on January 1, 1990.
Another great song on theirs, featured in the last season of Stranger Things is “Play with Me”, a fun one.
One of my favorite bands ever! So many great songs, this one hit. Nuno is one of the best guitarists in the world. Gary is an amazing vocalist/performer and I saw him as the natural successor to Freddie. They did a whole set of their/Queen music at Freddie's memorial concert.
"Get the Funk Ouit" - very funky and excellent official video
Also, Jack Black/Jimmy Fallon did this on the night show, and Al Yankovic did a shot for shot of this video with NEW LYRICS.
Nuno is Azorean Portuguese 100%
Some men got a VERY different message to this song, disgustingly LOL
The Jack Black version surprised me with how genuinely good it is.
I remember being so envious of Nuno's hair especially 😅
This will always be one of my favourite songs ever.
Yes! I remember Gary singing at the memorial concert and was so impressed. I thought he sounded so much better than a lot of the other acts.
Midnight Express - Nuno Bettencourt ,,, BRILLIANT ACOUSTIC GUITAR SOLO !!!!
You hear a song decades ago, then just heard it now and know all the words (amazing which songs stay with you) 💋 love this song ✌️🎶💕
I have always loved this song. Thanks for resurrecting this one for reaction.
"If you don't like what you see here
Get the funk out
We won't try to force feed you
Get the funk out"
Hell Yeah! I'm back in college!!! 😜
Checkout Terrence Trent D’Arby “sign your name across my heart” or “wishing well”
Sign your name is phenomenal. The artist has changed his name, though.❤❤
His song Delicate is a musical gift
Man….this is a fire ballad BP; so unique yet simple but the lyrics are what makes it top tier.
Jack Black and Jimmy Fallon did this song.
Did an excellent job. Amazing.
You need to listen to their version!! ❤️😎
This song just takes my breath away!!
Love it.
Whole hearted would be a great one. Nuno doing slide guitar.
Oh yes. One of great songs. Vocals are beautiful
Its nice to show that metal heads are actually great musicians! I love the backstage, taking a break kind of vibe. Ive always loved this song!
Yes, extremely talented artists! And a beautiful song❤
Great song! They are mainly rock, but this song blew them up to stardom. They are still rockin today, putting out new music.
I heard this for the first time when I was in my last month of nursing school - 91. Love it ❤️
Check out their song "Hole Hearted"
Fun song
You now HAVE to listen to the cover that Jack Black and Jimmy Fallon did of this song!!! It’s amazing!!!!
YAAAAAS! That was just incredible. Such a great re-creation - so well done!!!
Great song. Big hit. Great ballad...
Extreme put new music out earlier this year. All good!!
Yes, it's a band. Watching the vid didn't you see the drummer and bass player call it a night?
This song came out in 1990. They were popular in the late 80's to the mid 90's. This song went to #1 and the album went to #10 and I believe went double platinum. I don't remember who it was, but one of the guys played in Van Halen for a while. He was on the Van Halen III album. One of the guys, Nuno Bettencourt, is of Portuguese descent which is probably the one you think looks native.
Beautifully harmonized. Still gives me goosebumps
