I met Keola back in 2004 but was a fan long before that. I had his VHS tape, The Art of Hawaiian slack key guitar, I believe it was called . He brought slack key guitar to the public where prior to that it was kept very tradtional, even family to family amongst Hawaiians, so I thought that was a pretty big deal. He explains the history of each song that he teaches, which is pretty cool. One of the most genuine, big hearted people I've had the pleasure of knowing. God bless. Aloha

I just went to their concert today. What an amazing talented man. I meet his wife, she is such a sweetheart!

I had the privilege to study hula with Keola ‘s beautiful mother way back in 1957. That is still one of the fondest memories of my life. And now to hear Keola’s enchanting and traditional music, I
    am doubly blessed.

I was born in 1949 & raised in Hilo Hawaii and knew Keola & Kapono's great-grandmother, Helen K. Desha Beamer (quiet, sweet, patient, always smiling, twice her husband's size) & great-grandfather, Peter "Pete" Beamer (a short, outoing, spry, hardworking, always friendly talkative man with stories in his heavy Scottish brogue). My sibs & I used to love going to his hardware+ store on Waianuenue Avenue. We loved going into their store (they had a penny candy jar for kids). My brother John & I would often ask if we could sweep & mop out the store's wood floor & outside sidewalk, which was welcomed by them because the customers coming in tracked in dirt. They liked the "Bonnie good" job we volunteered doing. The good Ole days with its treasured memories!

PS: I also have a special Auntie Nona's CD with music & stories of Waimea/Kamuela. One of my favorites is about their dog going to church with them... I can imagine just how that went down. A family favorite to tell others... Thanks to each of you for some of Hawaii's best to share!
