This was a 1960's promotional train set for the Green Giant brand vegetables and in the commercial the giant actually says, "Ho Ho Ho", in a very low voice during the short song with the wording as follows, (In the valley of the jolly Ho-Ho-Ho green Giant). I typed this before the end of the video where you relate your research on the train so in the words of Gilda Radner, "never Mind". lol; Great video, Jersey Bill

Interesting find, Tomas. Cool! It will be neat when cordless tool battery tech will fit in to HO scale or smaller. Like a 5 or 6 amp hour battery. Dead rail will open wide for smaller scales. Longer will we have to worry about dirty Track. Thanks for Sharing!

Thanks Russ, yes I agree. I believe once battery powered becomes more developed and prevalent it’d have the potential to phase out conventional pick up design in smaller scales. I’ve seen some videos of it being done, perhaps in the future I’ll try too.

Part of why this locomotive is so weirdly tall is that the locomotive for this set was more or less a modified version of a previously available model, the 999. Yes, Marx sold an HO locomotive with the same number on it as the classic diecast O gauge model! It was also sold with small battery powered Marx sets, and was the same apart from smaller domes, smokestack, and no big extra headlight. The loco can be found lettered with the New York Central oval herald and 999 on the cab, it also was made completely unlettered. These sets used the same plastic station/battery box to power them, but colored differently.
I've been looking for one of these battery powered sets, they're pretty neat looking. Marx also made some sets with an 0-6-0, and with a version of their F2 that had a rubber band drive (the latter at least seems to have been exclusively for the european market). I think the 6096 hudson was the only steam locomotive Marx offered in HO that came with transformer powered sets.

I have seen pics of the NY variant and I hope to get one, just waiting for one to be reasonably priced but yeah the molds are obviously related. I also have the F3, GP7 and Hudson, I’m going to make a vid about them eventually. Thanks for the very informed comment :) I hope you find what you’re looking for.
