  • This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB.
    📖 Follow along with the official Catechism in a Year Reading Plan (AscensionPress...)
    Put simply, “[e]very person not yet baptized and only such a person is able to be baptized.” The Catechism explains to us the purpose of Baptism for both adults and infants. Fr. Mike doubles down and makes sure we understand that Baptism is for everyone. God wills Baptism for all people. Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 1246-1252.
    Please note: The Catechism of the Catholic Church contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
    Ascension is committed to creating media that helps Catholics grow in their faith. Catechism in a Year promises to do just that - that’s why, no matter what, we’re making it. This podcast is free and always will be. But, we have limited resources. With funding from generous supporters like you, we can do even more than simply create the podcast. Would you consider supporting Ascension’s free media? tinyurl.com/2s.... No amount is too small!
    Although not tax-deductible, the financial support we receive goes towards the creation of podcasts and videos that help Catholics grow in their faith. If you’d like to learn more about what we do with gifting, go to AscensionPress.... Thank you and God bless you!

    Why Have Your Baby Baptized?
    Having your baby baptized in the Catholic Church is not optional. It is essential to baptize your baby to remove original sin from his soul, restore him to God's friendship, allow God to dwell in Him, restore sanctifying grace in the soul, and make Heaven possible.

    Every person not yet baptised is able to receive Baptism. The Church baptises infants because they are born with original sin. Baptism frees infants from the Evil One and brings them into that realm of freedom that belongs to the children of God.

    Thank you Father Mike for your teachings!❤❤
    Why should Catholics baptize their baby?
    It is because we love them so much that we want to give them the very best. To really provide the best possible life for our children, it is necessary to teach them to have a relationship with God and the first step in doing that is getting your baby baptized. Your child will receive the Baptismal grace and freed from original sin.
    “The fruit of Baptism, or baptismal grace, is a rich reality that includes forgiveness of original sin and all personal sins, birth into the new life by which man becomes an adoptive son of the Father, a member of Christ and a temple of the Holy Spirit. By this very fact the person baptized is incorporated into the Church, the Body of Christ, and made a sharer in the priesthood of Christ.”

      @TedSeeber Před rokem +2

      @rhwinner the horrible nature of catechism during the time these people were young, introduced many myths that were foreign to the religion and are not supportable by the full record of the Magisterium, leading to a general malformation in the faith. While many of us did indeed go back later to do our own formation, you can still today find many Catholics doing such things as denying the Real Presence, considering contemplative prayer to be a waste of time, denying the reality of hell, or denigrating Sacramentals, among ither strange beliefs like the concept that politicians are not guilty of passing unjust laws when secular politics becomes more important than the faith.
      This level of ignorance can be overcome, but the early life formation is forever lost for three generations of Catholics.

My husband and I were blessed to visit the church of St Augustine in Rome both on 6/18 and 6/30/24 and pray for the conversion of sinners like me, for the salvation of souls. And we are traveling with Patrick and Jenna, and while I know it may not be us who leads Patrick to the gift of baptism, we pray for a Saint Ambrose to come into his life to do that, and do the best we can to live our faith. So many people are not baptizing their children, it is frightening. The wave of atheism throughout the country means there will be more unbaptized people than baptized. This is frightening. Can't we already see the results and where this will lead? Perhaps Bishops could give Christian Grandparents permission for emergency Baptisms of their grandchildren, if their own children are not baptizing their own kids or even believing in God anymore. I'm not sure if people know how prevalent this is today - the wave of atheism taking hold of former Christians.

      @@elizabethcronin3074 The day was great even if I wasn’t up to going to the chapel to pray. Today not so great. For some reason I slept 10-11 hours which is awful. I have a hard time in the mornings d/t fibromyalgia; sleeping that long magnifies the pain & stiffness exponentially. Also for 2 weeks I tried going to daily mass but I just got worse & worse. I think I was exhausted from pushing my body so hard for the prior 2 weeks.

Lord God, to be more specific, please gift Father Mike extraordinarily with more graces/gifts because, Lord, he is exactly what this world needs. There is denial to check them for autism; there are social problems too. Day 170 takeaways: Who Can Be Baptized? Anyone who has not yet been baptized. God wants us all to be saved. Adult Baptism was most common. There was a preparation process, forming one into the whole Christian life. Because of the serious nature of Original Sin, it became customary to baptize infants and then catechize them at a later time. The person in formation is going through a training montage in learning how to practice virtues, learning what a life of faith is, learning about the liturgy, learning to become a charitable person.

    Day 170
    Infant Baptism is necessary because born with a fallen nature and tainted with original sin, children have the need of Baptism to be freed from the power of darkness and into the realm of the freedom of the children of God
    This is the sheer grace of God because infants have not done anything to merit this....

    Why does the church insist on long courses for parents before they let their children be baptised. We two sets of grandparents have been denied bringing our grand children into the family of God. Please make it easier not harder for children to be baptised.

  • @saintjosephterrorofdemonsp6132

    According to Catholic priest Father Exorcist Carlos Martins and convert (who was a practicing Atheist in his 20's), every person born into the world belongs immediately to the devil because they are born with the stain of original sin so for Jesus' sake, baptize babies! If babies are not baptized, they are objectively not children of God!
    Get smart! Let's stop being stupid! Baptize infants to save them from the devils and give them the graces from our Father!

    • @vida3123
      @vida3123 Před rokem +7

      The answer is very clearly given in the Catechism, Day 170: "IV. WHO CAN RECEIVE BAPTISM" ? where in1246 it clearly states: "Every person not yet baptised and only such a person is able to be baptised". Clearly the baby in any of the scenarios you have listed is not 'at fault' for the circumstances of his/her parents. Why would the baby or child or even later the adult offspring born of a not married (out of wedlock) couple's union or to divorcees be unable to be baptised? The answer to your question is very clearly provided in the Catechism and that answer is: ANYONE and EVERYONE who has not been Baptised can be Baptised. An adult would have preparation for their Baptism. An infant is Baptised - no matter to whom or in what circumstances that infant's conception/birth occurred.
      Fr Mike does not personally read nor does he respond to questions here. Today's Catechism section and his discussion already answered your question BUT if you need further verification it would be a good idea to speak to your parish priest so he can confirm what is already stated in the Catechism.

      @@vida3123 @vida3123 I'm not being prejudiced here. i heard Father very clearly and was amazed (& glad) that Baptism is for everyone and anyone who is not baptised. I am very surprised bcos, while a niece of mine when she was little, no priests wanted to baptise her precisely bcos she was not born into a marriage family. And the Church (idk exactly who as i was young then) said my mum could not be baptised unless my father who was non Christian and was not living with us (there were some obstacles in seeking Baptism) gave consent. Hence, i posted those questions.

    • @vida3123

      @@ermuajo I am not sure how long ago all that you've described occurred. As I said in my previous response, speak with your Parish priest or a priest that you feel comfortable asking and get their answer.
      Regarding your niece being born into a family where her parents were unmarried and the priests not wanting or refusing to baptise her - I think that says more about the ignorance of those priests as it goes against what they should have done.
      Refusing to baptise an innocent soul - a baby - is in my view very wrong of those priests.
      As for the situation with your Mum, your Mum was an adult and if she wanted to be baptised she most certainly did not need your non Christian father's consent!
      I'm truly sorry but both of the scenarios you have described seem bizarre and like the priests are at grave fault and they should never have refused or obstructed anyone from being baptised. That is what the Catechism states and what Fr Mike said - i.e. anyone who is not baptised can be baptised.
      Please speak to a priest and raise your questions and concerns with him to get the definitive answers as Fr Mike does not reply to questions here.
