Thank you so much for the tip! I understand the difference and have definitely had several cake pops disappear into the chocolate melts bc it was simply too heavy for them. I'm make close to 180 cale pops for a sweet 16 soon, so I'm definitely going to try this! Thank you again!

Hey Elise! I was looking up a question on cake pops and I found your video. My only question is when you add the shortening do you notice that the chocolate on the cake pop does not dry completely hard? I feel like that is an issue that I have and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong. Hope you're having a great week! I saw that you're almost at 1 million subscribers! Amazing!

Will the shortening change the taste? Will the chocolate get hard to the point where there is a crunch noise on the cake pop?

Question - firstly Love your website and tutorials Elise - learning lots from your techniques. Now for my question: you say to use 1 tablespoon of lard to shortening for 1/2 bag of melting choc bits, using that ratio what do you use when you have to melt say 1kg or 1lb for larger projects? Or do you not use lard for large projects and only for cake pops? Probably more than one question or two in there. Look forward to hearing from you. Kim

Love this series! Thanks Elise. I do use crystallized shortening from a few specialty shops near me. I like this option better because the chips allow you to eyeball the measurement a lil more. I usually do between 15-20 flake per half bag candy melts and it works out great.

I don't think shortening is legal in some parts of Europe because it contains trans fats. At least this is true for Denmark anyway. Maybe that's why you can't find it. Luckily you have candy melts that are melting at a nice consistency!

And one more question, if my local store runs out of colored candy melts and only has white ones in stock, can I use liquid food coloring or gel food colorings in order to have the colors I need? Thanks! I hope you see this because I’m going to need this info to help me make cake pops for my older sisters upcoming baby shower.
