I grew up near Roger, Freddie & Brian when Queen were just getting big (a really good friend of mine lived until recently 2 doors from Roger’s bedsit in Kew Road then Sod’s law she moved to the same road where Freddie lived with Wreckage many years before in 1970) I worked for 5 years in a wine bar in Barnes (now long gone) 10 doors down from Roger’s first house when he made money, sadly he moved 2 years before I worked there but he gave the house to his sister Claire who came in most nights on her way home from work for a glass of wine and was a lovely friendly lady who I got to know quite well, I was lucky enough to be behind the bar one Saturday in the early 80’s when Roger just came in to say hello as he was there for Boat Race Day but because I was a big fan I just served his party and didn’t want to intrude, earlier in around 1974/75 I was in a band and 2 of the guys worked at an engineering company round the corner from Roger’s house and used to meet them for lunch and go to the wine bar before I worked there and we saw Brian and Roger leaving the house a couple of times (sadly never Freddie) but again too shy to interrupt them, I saw Brian a number of times at the Barns fair with his first wife and young kids in around 1985 and with his parents at the Feltham garden Center in the late 90’s but never wanted to intrude on his family time, the last time I saw him was with his now grown up daughter at a McDonalds off the A316 near where his parents lived before they died and finally I got his autograph (everyone else in there was lining up so this time I didn’t feel as guilty!) David who owned the wine bar and knew I’d been a huge fan since early 1974 was a good friend of Roger’s (Roger sold him the speakers in the wine bar for £50 when he moved one of the biggest mistakes of my life was not asking to buy them when David sold up and moved to Spain, the place became an Indian restaurant and I’m sure they never used them) he used to tell me that Roger often talked about being in the band and the great times (and bad times like being a superstar in Japan and coming home to his bedsit of £40 a week until they got out of their contract) but I always remember him telling me so many stories were about him and Freddie in the early days on the market stall (when Freddie lived in the road in Kensington where my friend now lives Roger had a bedsit in a side road just across the road and Freddie would create a diversion so Roger could smuggle his girlfriend in) the stories I was told sounded like there was a real warmth between then Roger really loved him like a brother, those sort of friendships last forever, lovely video, lovely song, R.I.P Freddie

As much as the rest of us miss Freddie, I can only imagine how much more difficult it must be for you. Please know that we love you so much, you all are so imbedded in our lives. I remember your music from so long ago, Your My Best Friend was playing on the radio and I loved that song. As I grew older it seemed there was always a Queen song to mark that moment in time. You will probably never see this but I just wanted to put it out there.

I grew up near Roger, Freddie & Brian when Queen were just getting big (a really good friend of mine lived until recently 2 doors from Roger’s bedsit in Kew Road then Sod’s law she moved to the same road where Freddie lived with Wreckage many years before in 1970) I worked for 5 years in a wine bar in Barnes (now long gone) 10 doors down from Roger’s first house when he made money, sadly he moved 2 years before I worked there but he gave the house to his sister Claire who came in most nights on her way home from work for a glass of wine and was a lovely friendly lady who I got to know quite well, I was lucky enough to be behind the bar one Saturday in the early 80’s when Roger just came in to say hello as he was there for Boat Race Day but because I was a big fan I just served his party and didn’t want to intrude, earlier in around 1974/75 I was in a band and 2 of the guys worked at an engineering company round the corner from Roger’s house and used to meet them for lunch and go to the wine bar before I worked there and we saw Brian and Roger leaving the house a couple of times (sadly never Freddie) but again too shy to interrupt them, I saw Brian a number of times at the Barns fair with his first wife and young kids in around 1985 and with his parents at the Feltham garden Center in the late 90’s but never wanted to intrude on his family time, the last time I saw him was with his now grown up daughter at a McDonalds off the A316 near where his parents lived before they died and finally I got his autograph (everyone else in there was lining up so this time I didn’t feel as guilty!) David who owned the wine bar and knew I’d been a huge fan since early 1974 was a good friend of Roger’s (Roger sold him the speakers in the wine bar for £50 when he moved one of the biggest mistakes of my life was not asking to buy them when David sold up and moved to Spain, the place became an Indian restaurant and I’m sure they never used them) he used to tell me that Roger often talked about being in the band and the great times (and bad times like being a superstar in Japan and coming home to his bedsit of £40 a week until they got out of their contract) but I always remember him telling me so many stories were about him and Freddie in the early days on the market stall (when Freddie lived in the road in Kensington where my friend now lives Roger had a bedsit in a side road just across the road and Freddie would create a diversion so Roger could smuggle his girlfriend in) the stories I was told sounded like there was a real warmth between then Roger really loved him like a brother, those sort of friendships last forever, lovely video, lovely song, R.I.P Freddie
