    the dinette for the bed is the ideal setup while also being able to carry dirtbikes, IMO. Having that seating and table for when the bikes are unloaded is really nice. I wonder if I would have enough space to do that in a smaller van (econoline, express) hmm

      @@michaelherrickmusic The best thing to do in that case is measure it all out and mock it up with cardboard. It gives you a good idea how much space you'll have.

    I love what you did with the build .very well thought out. What about gasoline smell from the dirt bike gas cans? Is that a problem ? If so what about a gas can back bumper type mount? Your thoughts? Thanks

    • @LiveLikePete
      @LiveLikePete  Před 3 měsíci

      I've never wanted the bikes mounted outside for several reasons. (Theft, road grime, weathering, u can only mount 1...) There has never been a problem with fuel smell in the van from gas cans or the bikes fuel tanks. Both are basically fully sealed. Just cap the tank vent on the bike and no carburetor to worry about. If I left them in there overnight in the summertime there may be a very slight odor, but the ceiling vent fan takes care of it and it's also gone as soon as you open a door. We're talking super slight too. I rarely ever leave them in there overnight when it's hot out anyways. The build has worked great for us. Thanks a bunch! 🙌

    If you drowning in money this is a great bed/bike option.
    I have L track running parallel on both sides of 170 van. At base of window framing and at tops. From there used double stud threaded lug to run two pieces of L track vertically each side approx 55” apart.Then cut heavy gauge steel stud in half to create a J anchor . Drilled that and have alum frame bunks that I can hang at any heigh from 30” up to 65” can have Dirtbikes in van and bed above bikes.
    Probably doesn’t make any sense in text tho!

    Love your build and need to do the dinette/bed/cargo on my standard roof 4x4. I’m not that handy and am a bit intimidated 🤪. But I’m gonna check your blog and see if I can do it… 🫡. Oh boy… wish me luck!

      Thanks! It's a lot of work to make it a very finished and professional looking product, but you could always build the same thing that serves the same purpose in a simpler form. Good luck on the build. Let me know if you have any questions along the way.

    This looks awesome! Question, can you stuff a moto below the platform bed?

    • @LiveLikePete
      @LiveLikePete  Před rokem +1

      Thanks! No because the motorcycle is too tall. You probably could if you put the bike slightly forward so the bars are not under the bed, but there's really no reason to since I have the lower bed too. Much quicker setup for when I have the moto.

  • @tooquinn3600
    @tooquinn3600 Před rokem

    do you think if you moved the tracks up a lil to be able to fit a moto under the bed you would still be able to sleep comfortably?

    • @LiveLikePete
      @LiveLikePete  Před rokem +1

      No, because they would have to be so high to clear the handlebars you'd have like a foot or less to sleep. It would be super claustrophobic. I already considered it when I was building it. It's just not possible for a bed above a moto in a Sprinter. That's why I only use this set-up for MTB or when I don't have the bikes.

      @@caseyhallahan8636 yeah just some 16 gauge metal supports sourced from Lowes. They don't need to be crazy thick because there are multiple points to support the load. 👍

      @@LiveLikePete I was talking about the custom bent 1” steel. How did you make that or did you have someone make it. I’m talking about for the center support.

    • @LiveLikePete
      @LiveLikePete  Před rokem

      @@caseyhallahan8636 that's just a piece of angle iron with the angles trimmed off at the ends and bent in slightly. It wasn't even really necessary. All the other flat pieces of metal uprights are plenty to support the weight. The center piece was pretty much overkill.
