So I have a 2013 BMW 128i and it currently has an AFE Stage 3 cold air intake with a HUGE air filter, a set of Active Autowerke headers (with primary cat deletes), a full cat-back Magnaflow exhaust, and an Active Autowerke tune. The N51 engine (which is SULEV), doesn't have as high compression as the N52 (which is externally identical), and it pulls fairly well for a 3600 lb car with me in it, but I have been contemplating putting a remote mounted turbocharger on it. I already have a Garrett GTS3582 dual ball bearing turbo, a T3 flange, a 90 degree 3" elbow, a reducer, and I even bought a Walbro 350 LPH fuel pump for it. I have a set of Siemens Deka 630cc injectors, but I don't believe they will fit in the fuel rails without spacers. I am about to buy a set of Deatschwerks 850cc injectors for it, but I am still trying to figure out a self contained oiling system for it with a sump and an oil pump. I will also need to find an air filter that is water shedding. The E82 chassis doesn't have much room under the hood.
Keep the charge piping small and short as possible to minimize lag. The bottleneck is the turbine housing so keep everything small and it will reward you with great response.

Jeremy I love your videos. But have many questions about tuning. Let’s discuss gears. My example I give to people is riding a bicycle. Tire, frame, wheels, everything is the same. Now we change the front sprocket things drastically change. Change the back sprocket and again drastic changes. You’re the power train (motor) front sprocket (transmission) rear sprocket (drive gear box). So if the motor is factory built, why can’t the transmission and rear end be changed to create more power???
Ok good question but we aren’t going to be able to cover everything. There’s a difference between tq multiplication from the gearing and RW tq. Gearing aggressively is a substitute for a lack of Tq, the more tq a vehicle has the less aggressive gearing it needs to accomplish the same or similar acceleration. Avg tq over time vs weight and drag coefficient for the most part explains acceleration formula.
2 vehicles same everything except gearing...Now with more aggressive gearing on one say 4.11 vs 3.42 the 4.11 car will feel tqier in roughly about the first 3 gears (should pull out ahead) but right around 4th gear the 3.42 is going to be in the avg tq area longer period of time and thus should start to make its move somewhere about 100mph and with less gear changes should start to shine beyond 100mph. Changing to a 4.11 will show less power on the Dyno by roughly 20-30rwhp with all other things held constant. The Dyno wants to see the gear that’s 1:1 running in 4th gear with a 4.11 is analogous to running the 3.42 car in 3rd gear (mph are comparable). Unfortunately I’m not going to answer many of your questions but I’m going to show you what you are up against and other variables. Oftentimes a truck with heavy wheels, tires, brakes, driveshaft, and differential (all things that spin and rotate) will become very parasitic at higher mph and thus they will show lower power beyond 100mph in the 1:1 gear. But in short if the trans were efficient and had lightweight components and the rear end was minimally parasitic yes it could make more power. Gearing doesn’t necessarily “make more” you just need to factor many other things into the equation. Lighter “anything that spins or rotates” is a great start
@@Fasterproms1 thank you for responding. Basically what I’m asking is, if factory blocks a car by its mapping. Computer blocks b/s. But I want to add straight exhaust. Knowing that alone give more hp. Or change the diff. Also known to give more hp. Both of which doesn’t touch the mapping (computer). Transmission can also internally be somewhat changed.
I have a corvette and have been told that the factory has set up the timing and cannot be changed. Watching Utuber Emilia Hartford. With her new corvette not being able to change factory settings but has found away to bypass a few. Just that the Cadillac has a vett motor and is faster than the lighter corvette(Sport car) which has ME pissed off. The corvette has a better motor than Ford and Dodge but it’s still so much slower from factory. Why’s that???
@@robertlukacs1762 her experience is now moot. No longer is it limited or untouchable. And since you currently but not indefinitely cannot touch the trans tune it makes no sense to touch the trans gearing or diff since the shifts are based upon a calibration. Unless of course you manually shift it.
